Why do someone older says good night to his/her younger one, be it husband to wife,boyfriend to girlfriend, senior to junior, elder to younger, boss to employee,et al but expect the younger one to say good morning/good afternoon/good evening failure to do that he/she lack respect.

I mean what's the difference between saying good moring/good afternoon/good evening and good night?
