Gov. Obiano excites Gulder Ultimate Search Contestants at Aguleri Jungle
In a move seen as unprecedented since the beginning of the Gulder Ultimate Search reality television challenge, Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano visited the fourteen contestants in the 11th edition of the reality television show at their camp inside the historic Ude Ovulu Jungle in Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area, over the weekend to interact with the contestants and experience first-hand, the GUS challenge.

The sight of Governor Obiano elicited excitement among the contestants who burst into Man “o” War song, making him to share memories of his active days as a Boy Scout with them.

During the interactive session tagged, “A moment with the Governor” governor Obiano explained his mission. “I came to wish you well in the hope that one of you may eventually find the crown. This adventure is worth having as some who were members of the Boys Scout and Girls Guide would appreciate the exciting experience.”

Governor Obiano said that he totally identifies with what the sponsors Gulder and Nigeria Breweries Plc are doing with the youths by putting them through challenging tasks and teaching them leadership and survival strategies as well as team building initiatives. According to Obiano “we are committed to boosting tourism in Anambra state, that is why we started with security to ensure the safety of lives and property so that people can live and go about anytime of the day and with street lights at key places at night.

He explained that his administration is sustaining the infrastructural development of the State with a view to creating an enabling and conducive environment for foreigners and Nigerians to explore the abundant tourism potentials in parts of the State.

Obiano expressed satisfaction with the arrangement put in place for the ongoing exercise and assured that government will borrow a leaf to get Anambra State youths acquainted with the experience in the jungle and encourage them to participate in similar programmes to acquire endurance and survival skills. The governor pointed out that with the coming of investors into the State, more companies will have the opportunity to sponsor youth empowerment programmes.

He commended the sponsors for the lessons embedded in the GUS challenge which is the building of strong and focused persons. He noted that the positioning of the Gulder brand encourages survival and endurance skills which he observes fits into some of the Pillars of Development and enablers of his government especially in commerce and tourism, as well as the promotion of youth empowerment.

Governor Obiano thanked them for choosing Aguleri where according to him “the giants lived” and Anambra State for the GUS contest.

The GUS adventure is expected to end on 31st October this year while the ultimate winner will be presented with a cash prize of N10 million and an SUV Jeep on November 1, 2014 when the governor promised that he will have the honor of presenting the price to the winner.

In furtherance of the continuity policy and the rebuilding process in the education sector, Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano has taken practical steps to complete the renovation and rebuilding of about 1,300 primary school classroom blocks by next one year. Already, governor Obiano has embarked on completing the renovation and rebuilding of 520 Primary School classroom blocks before the end of this year in the first phase arrangement to upgrade school infrastructure across the State. In the same vein, the governor directed the rehabilitation of Secondary Schools and granted free education to the physically challenged up to secondary schools.

Governor Obiano announced this while inspecting ongoing building projects at Ezi-Awka Community Primary School, Awka, Friday, the governor pointed out that, after the first phase, the next phase of the project would cover the remaining classroom blocks to bring the total number to 1,300. He explained that in addition to rebuilding the school blocks, the State government was also upgrading other school infrastructure and providing instructional materials.

According to governor Obiano “my administration is committed to promoting the welfare of pupils, students and teachers, in this regard I want to reassure you that teachers’ salary would be increased immediately the State’s internally-generated revenue improves.” The governor also enjoined pupils of the School and students of Ezi-Awka Community Secondary School, Awka, to study hard to attain their full potentials, stressing that education is a strong enabler of his development policies.

In their separate remarks, two students, Blessing Omori and Tochukwu Nwayotalu appealed for government’s intervention on erosion threatening the School as well as provide source of regular water supply to the School.

At UNICEF Experimental Primary School, Ufuma, governor Obiano directed ASUBEB to provide source of regularly water supply to primary schools to enhance hygiene and sanitation. The governor who expressed satisfaction with the quality of work on the projects said functional primary school education is fundamental in nurturing and molding children.

Meanwhile, governor Obiano has said that the State government would soon commence another phase of intervention in rebuilding dilapidated secondary school structures across the State. Governor Obiano stated this while inspecting building projects in some secondary schools to ascertain how the funds released by his predecessor for school projects were judiciously utilized. He said that his administration targets at rebuilding and renovating remaining collapsed buildings in secondary schools to provide conducive learning environment for students.

At Girls High School, Agulu, he announced that government has started building perimeter fencing in 21 Girls Boarding schools and would extend the project to all the boarding schools in the State as part of measures to further strengthen security in schools and effective control of students and inculcation of discipline. The governor added that the Schools would be provided with functional laboratories and libraries to encourage qualitative education. He also expressed satisfaction with the quality of work delivered with the N30 million given to the school by the previous administration, assuring that more support would follow soon.

The member representing Anaocha in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Ebele Ejiofor thanked governor Obiano for ensuring continuity in transforming schools in the State.

At Community Secondary School, Oko, governor Obiano noted that the school used the N10 million financial support to build two new blocks of five classrooms. He promised that work would soon commence on another dilapidated building in continuation of the rebuilding process while government would also assist in landscaping and grassing of the school premises. Governor Obiano explained that the various programmes were aimed at encouraging students to maintain excellence in their performance, noting that for three years running, students from Anambra State have remained best in all external examinations.

In another development, governor Obiano announced free education for physically-challenged persons from primary to post-primary education. Governor Obiano made the announcement during an inspection visit to Basden Memorial Special School, Isulo, Orumba South Local Government Area. Obiano said the free education policy takes immediate effect. According to the governor, “the welfare of persons with special needs would remain top priority throughout the lifespan of my administration.”

The governor said two more schools for the physically-challenged persons would be built in Anambra Central and Anambra North Senatorial Districts respectively to bring the total number to three to accommodate more pupils and students with special needs. He also explained that the schools will be equipped with necessary amenities and facilities that would enhance teaching and learning including solar light system, water, electric fan in dormitories and classrooms as well as instructional materials.

In his reaction, Chairman of Orumba South Local Government Area, Mr. John Onyeakpa thanked the governor for the visit, stressing that he has continued to carry everybody along and give all segments of the society a sense of belonging.

Mr. Onyeakpa noted that within a short time in office, the governor has enthroned focused and people-oriented administration, assuring him of total support of the people of the area

Thank you my brother, our dream of a better Anambra State will be achieved soon by Gods Grace.
I will support Buddahmonk on the Skyscrapers cos it is needed for our Cities to command respect among other cities/towns.

Nwanne we need to change the entire view of our cities (Onitsha,Nnewi and Awka)...we need at least five 20 or 25 storey buildings each for Onitsha and Nnewi. This will automatically change the landscape of the town, together with proper tree planting and cleaning of roads. Also I don't know if it will be possible for government 2 reach an agreement with the Landlords 2 repaint their house especially in Onitsha and environs.

Amen!

For me, I believe our utmost priority is to first make Anambra self sufficient in many things our people depend on.
Inspect our homes, write down everything you use. From the rice in your kitchen to garri, to kitchen stove, gas cooker, radio, matress, rug etc. We should aspire to produce all of it. Once you are self sufficient, you have conquered poverty for ever and removed the ability of other people to manipulate your progress.

I don't know what's wrong with you people and skyscrapers, Nigeria is still suffering from epileptic power supply and poor state of roads and you people are still thinking of skyscraper.

For me, I want a stable economy in the east, manufacturing, hotel and services, housing, commerce.
I want to see people from different countries coming down here to the east to buy something, I want us to be the production hub for west africa.
if we measure up in all these aspect, u people will be begging the government to pull down some skyscrapers cos they are constructed illegally.

Tabletman1 my brother, I am clamoring for this things cos I know its importance in our future development. Onitsha and Aba which are two major cities in South east Nigeria, developed on their own, with little or no assistance from the government. Also take a look at Nnewi (a city with great potential),with enough manufacturing companies which are owned by individuals and not government.

Most, if not all our cities in the East developed on their own. Now the things that both me and buddahmonk stated above are basic things that are needed for every city to grow.
look at Onitsha and Nnewi now and compare it with other cities and towns in Nigeria.

You said that “i want to see a stable economy in the east and that I want other people to come and buy from us." I know that you must have heard that fg want to make Anambra State one of the Staple crop processing zones in Nigeria and Also Anambra State is leading in the manufacturing of Auto-Spare parts. My brother we have achieved this height on our own, with out government help. Now my question is what is successive governments in Anambra State doing to support this industrious people and make so many of them (more rich men) to return back home.

The following are needed for a stable economy in the east:
1, A functional Cargo/International Airport that will be the envy of everyone.
2, A functional Seaport, pls note that this one is very important for the whole south east.
3, Massive Reconstruction and not Rehabilitation of our Major Roads namely; Onitsha- Enugu Expressway,Enugu- Ph expressway. This will add movement of people and goods across nigeria.
4, Lastly take a look at Onitsha now and see how disorganized it is even in the mist of Many companies and well planned buildings. So we need to beautify our environment, plant ornamental trees, carpet grass and water fountains.

I will like to rest my case here as I wish government are seeing this things for them to implement them. Nuff said so far I enjoy both the comments of Tabletman, buddahmonk,Shematic and ChimaAdeoye here.

I think there is already massive grass/tree planting and further beautification ongoing right now in Onitsha. What Anambra needs right now is an International Cargo/Passenger airport. As a leading economic center after Lagos and PH, Onitsha needs the airport that will service it properly. My happiness is that this airport project will soon see the light of the day because the airport advisory committee has been set up to see to its setting up in 18 months from now.

I still stand on my words. Skyscraper is the least of our problem.
We are not competing with anybody in skyline view rather we are fighting for emancipation of eastern economy, we still have a lot to tackle, we still have homeless people sleeping in people's shop pooing in the middle of the road at night, we are still suffering of epileptic power supply and you quite know that skyscraper need elevator and elevator needs steady electricity, we still need to upgrade our primary, secondary and university school, we need vocational training/education, we still have problem with hospital that's why politicians and even lecturers ran to another country whenever they suffer slightly headache. We never repair our bad roads finish. We still need to upgrade our hospitals(I have said it before and will say it again).

skyscrapers is the least of our need, st peter plaza and nollywood plaza at osha is rioting away due to our culture of lack of maintenance. I rest my case too.

Its a large mill industry and they produce feed 24/7

3dankey if visit this feeding mill, you will know that the east still has a lot to do to catch other regions via agriculture.

The northerners will bring the soya beans and corns for production, they will load and export the finish products back to their region.
