Power Generation Drops By 1,000MW Due To Gas Pipeline Vandalism by Anikulhapo(op): 6:33am On Oct 21, 2014
Speaking in Abuja on Monday, the minister said the poor electricity supply across the country in the past one week was due to the 1,000MW drop in power generation.

Nebo said this during the Presidential Expert Group Meeting on Infrastructure Ranking and Scorecard Roadmap organised by the Nigerian Society of Engineers.

The minister, who attributed the drop to the menace of gas pipeline vandalism said, “We want to be very sure that this is nipped in the bud with regards to gas supply and we are doing everything possible to minimise the incidences of vandalism.

“Now, look at what vandalism has cost us; nearly 1,000MW of power in the past one week on a daily basis. And this means that every Nigerian is cringing in pain because of the loss.”

Earlier, during the meeting proper, Nebo explained that two major gas plants were severely affected and this had warranted the fall in electricity generation.

The rains are almost gone so power has dropped by 1000MW.
What exactly do you expect from a clueless government who only celebrate increase in electricity supply during the rainy season?

[size=18pt] When rain comes and power situation improves marginally, saTANoids will say jonah is working.
when rain dwindles and water level fall in our dams, they say it is APC.

Nigerians to experience more darkness as electricity generation drops Two gas plants in Delta State were shut
down.
————————————————–
The electricity supply in most parts of the
country will reduce further from Tuesday
with the announcement by the Federal
Government of a drop of about 1,000
megawatts, MW following the closure of the
Utorogu and Ughelli East gas plants in Delta
State.
Utorogu and Ughelli East gas plants, owned
by Shell Petroleum Development Company,
SPDC joint venture, JV, produces between
120 and 300 million standard cubic feet per
day of gas, MMSCF/D. The two facilities also
account for a combined capacity of about
700 MW of electricity generated into the
national grid.
With this development, the country’s
electricity generation capacity, which
averaged about 3,674 MW in recent weeks,
would drop further by another 1000 MW.
The operations of a number power
generation plants sourcing natural gas from
the two gas plants, including Egbin and
Omotosho, were affected.
Egbin power plant, reputed to be one of the
largest in the country, has an installed
capacity of about 1,320MW, but hardly
operates at average capacity of about
550MW.
The twin plant of Omotoso I and Omotoso II
power stations, with combined capacity of
about 600MW, has not been performing any
better, with a combined generation capacity
of less than 250MW.
The generation capacity of other power
stations affected by the closure of the gas
plants stands at about 300MW.
The Minister of Power, Chinedu Nebo, said
the closure of the two gas plants would be
for about 20 days to enable government
carry out proper routine repairs and
maintenance of the component units.

This is depressing. We seem to be running around in circles here. On a general note, I think vandalism is just one of the problems. What about the generator importers? I bet they will do anything to make sure we remain in darkness. This is what you get when you don't tackle issues on time. If this power issue had been tackled years ago, we would not be talking of generators in the first place. We lack leaders who can see and project into the future.

Re: Power Generation Drops By 1,000MW Due To Gas Pipeline Vandalism by 1stola:
We know this administration led by a retàrd has nothing good to offer this country. It is so pathetic!
The major need of Nigerians is POWER and all this bastàrd corrupt old fool knows it but will NEVER want to fix it.
ARE WE CURSED IN THIS COUNTRY?
- we have surplus crude oil
- we have surplus gas
- we have surplus dams
Yet for 54 years after independence, we can't fix this one thing.
The problem is so worrisome that sometimes, I begin to think it's impossible to achieved steady power even after ALL the BILLON DOLLARS that has been spent on it in the last 15 years. History will never forget Obasanjo who stole and squandered billions of dollars too on its course.
Texas is just a state in U.S bigger than the whole Nigeria but it's electricity producing plant just cost 2 billion dollars.
GEJ said he will fix power in four years if given the opportunity in 2011 and that, "four years is enough to fix power, if I can't do it in four years, I can never do it".
How I wish this clueless corrupt drunk was able to do this one thing, I would have wholeheartedly supported him if he cares to do 3 terms till 2023.
Enough is enough!
come 2015, we will take our country back from PDP.
WE NEED THIS CHANGE.
