OkijaAmaka:speak for yourself fool. who is we? Anambra people that have utter disdain for the thief called obi. You want him to continue his looting style for another 4 years since that's where you get your pay from. you foolish political trader. Yes I'm Ngige and Tabletman as you said. What will you do about it? I will never allow your paid Peter obi propaganda sail on nairaland. All you can do is type rubbish. I just reduced my offensive on obi since he's already done more harm to himself by joining PDP, exposing his greed and selfishness to discerning minds. |

cjrane:let us assume Anambra was a den of mad people before obi became governor. let us even assume obi brought sanity to Anambra (even though I don't know what means and lets pretend kidnapping and armed robbery in Anambra were not at its peak during his tenure. ), so what about the trillions he received from FG and IGR in 8 years because there is nothing on ground to show for except some few substandard roads here and there. Let me also pretend I dont know that you, okijaamaka, odenigboaroli, chimaadoye etc are all one person working for Valentine obienyem, Peter Obi's media assistant. |

I like the political discussions going on here. That is what true democracy is about. Everyone should air their own contrary opinion and allow us to draw our own conclusions about who is lying or being economical with the truth. |

famousurch:Peter Obi did some amazing transformation work in Anambra. One hopes his successor Obiano would do even better. But more importantly for a tough unruly state like Anambra, Obiano will have the courage to make tough decisions for the sake of a better society, which Peter Obi obviously lacked. Obiano's routine demolition of kidnappers den is an example of such tough courage required to lead Anambra into prosperity effectively. The only two things I have against Peter Obi is that he didn't make the least effort to modernize Awka, Onitsha and Nnewi into beautiful cities. Secondly, studies have showed that on the same exact amount of fuel, a Keke Napep rider makes about N5,000 naira every day or N80,000 - N100,000 naira per month, compared to a motorcycle okada operator who makes about N1,000 everyday or N20,000 to N25,000 per month. Keke Napep was obviously a better poverty alleviation tool! Peter also seemed unconcerned with the mounting death toll amongst Anambrarians being maimed daily by Okada/ motorcycle taxis. Even poorer states like Ebonyi outlawed the use of Okada as a means of public transportation in their urban centers. While many other states bought subsidized keke Napep in order to smoothly phase out the menace of motorcycles as a means of public transportation. Peter Obi could have easily asked INNOSON to design and supply subsidized Keke Napep for the smooth phasing out of Okada in Anambra's 3 major urban centers, but he simply chose to ignore the problem and pass the buck to the next man that will succeed him. That was a very very poor sign of purposeful leadership.

OreMI22:God bless you. Awka our state capital need to be modernised. We need at least a city to be proud of. |
| Re: Anambra light of the nation, eastern economy power house. by OreMI22: 8:37pm On Oct 26, 2014 |
Ilovenigeria:Exactly Bro! I hope reputable international city planners are engaged to plan the New Awka Capital city around the massive Greenwood estate at its nucleus. Our people often just hate planning anything in advance, we just believe in fire brigade adhoc approach when we get to every stage of development, we'll cross the bridge anyhow we can. However, a close look at Enugu and Abuja, two cities planned well in advance into the future, you'd see the difference with other unplanned albeit wealthier cities such as Port Harcourt. So in essence, a great city isn't just about it's wealth as we are quick to think, it is about making adequate provision for amenities that make life easier and healthier. I know a lot of very wealthy business people who could make billions if they set up outlets in Onitsha, but they cringe just at the mention of the word "Onitsha" because of the general planlessness of the city. A well planned urban center does matter a lot more than we like to admit. |

You have made some good points though. Awka is getting Dubai treatment to compete with some of the best cities in Africa not even Nigeria. With the ongoing Greenwood city as the key, it is prime to be a purpose built city. Obiano has assembled the best team to achieve this. He showed them Dubai 2003 and what it became 13 years after. Obiano has a huge dream that can only be compared to what Soludo could have done. And he has not left anyone in doubt as he has since hit the ground to achieve this feat with the number of capital infrastructural projects already ongoing in Awka. As for Onitsha, aside from the new UN Habitat masterplan, it was a well planned city ab initio when you look at the layout of the city from the googleearth. What Onitsha needs is the continuous maintenance of the infrastructure and greenbelt of the city just as it is happening now. Obiano from all indications has all it takes right now to achieve the next level because he has got the toughness and strictness which he has already brought to bear on his successes so far. OreMI22:Take Fegge for instance..I have not seen this sort of well tuned planning and organization elsewhere!

| Re: Anambra light of the nation, eastern economy power house. by OreMI22: 9:48pm On Oct 26, 2014 |
VAQAXY:I have a lot of zeal to see a well planned city somewhere in Anambra. Sometimes we like to copy the wrong examples. Dubai has as much money being spent in it than all Nigeria's annual budget. Botswana has less money with mainly bungalow but a well planned place that makes it a better place to live than most cities in Nigeria. Compare the select cities and see how Botswana in spite of having untarred roads in most of the estates, but you could clearly see the entire city is well planned. That is what we hope for Awka.

Ok yea, I have seen the point you are making concerning Botswana. It is a well planned city but I don't know if the whole of the city is that much just like Onitsha or Enugu does not have all the well planned hoods looking like the entire city. Obiano insisted that funds will not be his constraint, remember he is an accountant and a banker so he knows how to go about it just as he is going now with the infrastructural drive in Awka. He told the team to come up with the best that they should not be constrained by resources or whatever. Dude means business.. OreMI22:Other sections of Onitsha and Awka below..

VAQAXY:I hope he does. I am only concerned on a feasible ambition based on the available resources. We all want our hometown to look like New York or Atlanta, but can we afford it? Post pictures of Dubai,South Africa or Saudi Arabia cities and you will see an average city there has multiple flyovers (NoT just 3). Then look at Botswana, you will see that it has decent cities and uses roundabouts as interchanges. Which is close to something we can afford at this stage. We should aim at reproducing the Botswana example of city planning and we would have got it right. The Dubai example is a little bit phony considering our budget of $700 million dollar a year, with salaries and other issues included in that budget. |

You are right but I believe if we can aim higher..say aiming Dubai could land someone between Capetown or Pretoria..lol So bottom-line is to aim higher so that even if you do not get to that level you can at least attain an enviable height. I believe that is what Obiano had in mind. Already he has kept to that dream by awarding several capital infrastructural projects including the flyovers which I believe is the first set of it, more is likely on its way. Now listen to this report on how he plans to achieve this feat. Listen between 17th and 18th minutes.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcgoWdUXK-U OreMI22: |

VAQAXY:When I praise Chime in Enugu, it is because he had found a way to apply his meager resources into viable projects to transform his state. Not that Enugu was the most developed place one had seen, but you could clearly see he has a modern plan for the place. Hopefully Obiano will be able to achieve what he dreams about for Anambra state. Anambra indeed has great potentials, but has been a most disorganized state ruled by clueless governor (Except Obi). Governors that most tragically would not accept any form of advise because they believed they knew every subject in the world more than everyone else. It was not a surprise that the state stagnated for so long. It is good for us to aim for Dubai and perhaps get around Capetown or Pretoria. Although I don't see how Anambra can get enough funds to replicate even Lagos or Abuja talk more of Cape Town. lol... ![]() Although I would never admit this to a Botswanan or South African, the truth is that Nigerian cities are third world slums when compared to cities in the Southern Africa region, even such cities as Harare in cash strapped Zimbabwe! The only exceptions are Abuja and some parts of Lagos. Botswana is not a bad target at all for Anambra. Remember Botswana was amongst the 5 poorest countries in Africa in 1960s, but quickly transformed itself with good governance and great wealth from diamonds to become amongst the top 5 richest people in Africa today! I have been there and I know even Abuja cannot compete with their cities....especially Gaborone.Nigerians generally have expensive looking private homes than in Botswana, but the general ambiance of being a first world city with good roads and functioning public utilities is felt in Botswana than Nigeria. I am begging you to do your own research on Botswana and see what i am saying. Their hospitals where I had worked can only be achieved anywhere in Nigeria in the year 2050 ,... and i'm not kidding. Ask any Nigerian medical doctor practicing in that country. Some pics of Botswana for your day Sir.
