Re: Anambra light of the nation, eastern economy power house. by VAQAXY:
Those Botswana pics are not bad at all. Its looks like most places in Abuja even Lagos but they are real good. Anambra on the other hand is getting it right because as little as Ngige stayed he made some indelible marks at least on rural roads then came Obi who fired on from there and completed most of the rural area roads. Now comes Obiano who has taken on major urban capital infrastructures, oil and gas development, hospitality, malls etc to making Anambra the first choice investment destination. For the past 16 years from Ngige to Obi and now to Obiano, Anambra has seen holistic development of continuity which has seen most part of the state develop genuinely.

Obiano from all indication has brought great environmental sanity to Anambra particularly Onitsha the heat-beat of the region. If Upper Iweka can this organized, clean and sanitized then Anambra has every reason to aim Dubai, Pretoria and Capetown because they have got the technocrat at the helm of affairs in the state. If you had listened to that video you will understand that money follows ideas and not the other way round..Obiano has got the idea and as a former auditor to Texaco worldwide and a former bank chief he has a grip of what first world development is about and can bring it to bear on Anambra which he is already doing.

OreMI22:
When I praise Chime in Enugu, it is because he had found a way to apply his meager resources into viable projects to transform his state. Not that Enugu was the most developed place one had seen, but you could clearly see he has a modern plan for the place.

Hopefully Obiano will be able to achieve what he dreams about for Anambra state. Anambra indeed has great potentials, but has been a most disorganized state ruled by clueless governor (Except Obi). Governors that most tragically would not accept any form of advise because they believed they knew every subject in the world more than everyone else. It was not a surprise that the state stagnated for so long.

It is good for us to aim for Dubai and perhaps get around Capetown or Pretoria. Although I don't see how Anambra can get enough funds to replicate even Lagos or Abuja talk more of Cape Town. lol... grin
Although I would never admit this to a Botswanan or South African, the truth is that Nigerian cities are third world slums when compared to cities in the Southern Africa region, even such cities as Harare in cash strapped Zimbabwe! The only exceptions are Abuja and some parts of Lagos.

Botswana is not a bad target at all for Anambra. Remember Botswana was amongst the 5 poorest countries in Africa in 1960s, but quickly transformed itself with good governance and great wealth from diamonds to become amongst the top 5 richest people in Africa today!
I have been there and I know even Abuja cannot compete with their cities....especially Gaborone.Nigerians generally have expensive looking private homes than in Botswana, but the general ambiance of being a first world city with good roads and functioning public utilities is felt in Botswana than Nigeria. I am begging you to do your own research on Botswana and see what i am saying. Their hospitals where I had worked can only be achieved anywhere in Nigeria in the year 2050 ,... and i'm not kidding. Ask any Nigerian medical doctor practicing in that country. Some pics of Botswana for your day Sir.

You have done well my brother but those pictures are actually old..I think it was before they did the final coating on the road because I took some of those pictures myself. The last picture is not Anambra..that round-about, please knock it off!

Below is the current outlook of that Anambra road you posted..

Ye, i dont like like Obi for not banning Okada, he should have banned it but since government is stable lets know whether Obiano or even FG will do the needful.
Besides Obi might have looked into the economic implications of banning okada considering that about 80% of okada and its parts in West Africa are locally produced in Nnewi.
What if he banned the Okada and factories in Nnewi started retrenching, the managements of those coy will accuse him of killing their businesses while workers in those factories will aslo curse him for sending to bed on empty stomach.
The best thing is to summon those manufactueres and tell them the need to move into Keke parts manufacturing because the policy of banning Okada could be in the offing.
Lets not wake and ban Okada, besides am seeing the gradual demise of Okada now in Nigeria because Keke is better and more lucrative. Nobody does hire purchase Okada again but Keke, my brother wanted who will take his bike on hire purchase but the price wasnt encouraging, the person was even persuading him to buy Keke that he will take it on any amount, to show you that the operators are no longer interested even the passengers are become scared of okada

OreMI22:
Peter Obi did some amazing transformation work in Anambra. One hopes his successor Obiano would do even better. But more importantly for a tough unruly state like Anambra, Obiano will have the courage to make tough decisions for the sake of a better society, which Peter Obi obviously lacked. Obiano's routine demolition of kidnappers den is an example of such tough courage required to lead Anambra into prosperity effectively.

The only two things I have against Peter Obi is that he didn't make the least effort to modernize Awka, Onitsha and Nnewi into beautiful cities.

Secondly, studies have showed that on the same exact amount of fuel, a Keke Napep rider makes about N5,000 naira every day or N80,000 - N100,000 naira per month, compared to a motorcycle okada operator who makes about N1,000 everyday or N20,000 to N25,000 per month. Keke Napep was obviously a better poverty alleviation tool!

Peter also seemed unconcerned with the mounting death toll amongst Anambrarians being maimed daily by Okada/ motorcycle taxis. Even poorer states like Ebonyi outlawed the use of Okada as a means of public transportation in their urban centers.

While many other states bought subsidized keke Napep in order to smoothly phase out the menace of motorcycles as a means of public transportation. Peter Obi could have easily asked INNOSON to design and supply subsidized Keke Napep for the smooth phasing out of Okada in Anambra's 3 major urban centers, but he simply chose to ignore the problem and pass the buck to the next man that will succeed him.
That was a very very poor sign of purposeful leadership.

As at last month Obiano has concluded plans to ban bikers..I am privy to that classified information. I know that any moment from now he will phase it out completely from our major cities except for maybe rural areas. The companies at Nnewi are moving into Keke manufacturing than bike. Again let us consider that 98% of those bikers in Anambra are not Anambrans but migrants from other states around.

I dnt give hoot what you might label me, whether Val Obienyem or Pita Obi's first son or distance cousin i still hold me ground.

But please before we continue can i know how old you are because you seems not to reason introspectively or are you just being selective retentive.

We cant discuss the New Anambra without refernces to pre-Obi Anambra, where Ngige couldnt stop Ndi Agboro and "Power di excess" was their anthem, defying government orders and directives while Ngige couldnt do anything.

Obi entered flush agboro, he was impeached they were celebrating his impeachment and retuned to their booths, he came back again and ransacked them, MASSOB hinjacked Onitsha, Obi used force and dislodge them, i dont know whether you have been born by then shaa but am trying to school you how many violence the Kingdom of Anambra suffered and while the violent taketh it by force.

Leave Ngige in Anambra State, ndi Agboro ga eji mmadu we kpu aru.

Do you think that Obi just fought mere political wars, he fought organized crimes and syndicates, street gangs and touts that were holding the state hostage before you were born.
I guess your folks fogot to tell you these abi, they only tell you how many trillions he failed to account for.

FreeGlobe:
let us assume Anambra was a den of mad people before obi became governor. let us even assume obi brought sanity to Anambra (even though I don't know what means and lets pretend kidnapping and armed robbery in Anambra were not at its peak during his tenure. ), so what about the trillions he received from FG and IGR in 8 years because there is nothing on ground to show for except some few substandard roads here and there.
Let me also pretend I dont know that you, okijaamaka, odenigboaroli, chimaadoye etc are all one person working for Valentine obienyem, Peter Obi's media assistant.

Obiano is even mounting back-lit to replace billboards. Headbridge to Upper Iweka that has seen all sorts of street trading has been fenced off and cleared. Even from the view of those pictures you could see no more street loitering nor trading..it is now open view without billboards crisscrossing the environment and all. It can only get better..

indeed! my age is not in question. the thing here is for you to do your job of defending obi with verifiable facts. If you said obi fought crimes in Anambra which crime has Obiano devoted his first six months in fighting? need I remind you that kidnapping was at its peak during Obi's tenure? Can you compare the present security situation in onitsha now to what was obtainable during Obi's tenure? What exactly did obi do?

Nwanne its okay..let us stop this back and forth. Both Ngige and Obi did their best and now we are happy that Obiano is on his feet to move the state to yet another level. This thread is for every good thing in Anambra. Dalu..

We are entering for a workshop right now at the International Women Development Center- Awka..

Yeah I agree with you on the street trading, it's an eyesore. Ngige tried to ban it during his time . I could remember that's when iweka people(Electromart) moved to their now permanent site. Places like Venn road, Iweka road, Ochanja, Ezenwekwe, Menax and even Oguta roads need to be cleared. The one I hate most is the indiscriminate display of good on the roads even on top drainages.
Our people really need reorientation .Most times they prefer iron hand and extortion before they will obey simple law.

My people in this thread, I greet you.

On this Okada issue, while we should try to secure people's livelihood, the entire state must not be held back by the interest of very few persons. Who might not even be from Anambra.

The government should have a meeting to advise motorcycle part manufacturers that it intends to move forward. Consequently, 6 months to 9 months grace period should be given. After the period, okada use for commercial transportation in at least the 3 major urban centers of Onitsha, Awka and Nnewi should be banned.
Re: Anambra light of the nation, eastern economy power house. by VAQAXY: 1:44pm On Oct 27, 2014
The annoying thing is that 98% of those bikers are not even from Anambra. The producers at Nnewi are already moving toward Tricycle because that is where the economy is moving to.

Just chill you will hear the announcement on the ban very soon because I have seen the report concerning the ban first hand.

90percent of motorcyle, keke napepe, generators and motor spare parts are all imptorted from China,India,Taiwan,Iran(mostly tyers and tubes) and Japan for most engine parts.
All most all goods comes with a 'special name' like u mentioned above but only few parts are being manufactured in Nnewi....goods like;
*side covers, leg shield, cutting gasket,OTC cables, winker lamps, side covers and some springs which hardly last.
Reasons being that imported goods are more cheaper and realiable dan nigeria made
Remember,I've stayed in this market for close to 13years and still counting....This market is a God sent because it has produced thousands of millionaires of which Innoson group is among.

Anambra needs an airport, what do you guys think?
Re: Anambra light of the nation, eastern economy power house. by VAQAXY: 8:58pm On Oct 28, 2014
The process that will see to it being achieved soonest has already been set in motion by Obiano..

ChinoElects:
The Government of Anambra state has inaugurated the Anambra State Airport Advisory Committee to deliver the Anambra Cargo/Passenger Airport within 18 months. While inaugurating the committee, Chief Willie Obiano noted that the committee will provide advisory support on the development and project implementation of the planned Anambra State Cargo/Passenger Airport; review Expressions of Interest (EOI) by private sector parties desirous of investing in the airport project and select the most qualified to work with the state government in setting up and operating the airport.

Furthermore, the committee is to modify the technical architecture , business plan, and recognize those parts of the master plan that cannot be altered; also advise the government of Anambra state on the best options available on the airport project in terms of financing (Private Public Partnership), airport usage. Members of the committee include, Chief (Mrs.) Stella Oduah (chairman), Engr. Nnaemeka Nwawka, Mr. Chuma Mbonu, Arc. Callistus Ilozumba, Mr. Mark Okoye, Mr. Mac Atasie, Mr. Martin Emeka Nwafor, Engr. Ifeanyi Ozorka and Engr. Sylvester Onuorah.

In his vote of thanks, Engr Emeka Nwawka the MD of Orient Petroleum noted that the team has accepted the challenge with pleasure and assured that the Cargo/Passenger Airport will be one of the best in the country. He also congratulated the governor on the strides in setting up various arms of the vision and mission of the administration. Anambra needs an airport, what do you guys think?
Anambra needs an airport and a sea port. But we live in the realty where funds are limited compared to our wants.

Therefore we must write up our scale of priority. A refinery will help Anambra create good jobs, support industrialization and IGR than an airport right now. So an airport at this time may be deemed wasteful.
