The Minister of Transport, Senator Idris Umar, has said that
passenger train service from Lagos to Abuja would come on
stream by 2015.

According to the minister, the train journey from Lagos to
Abuja and vice versa, would take only three hours, adding that
the express train would stop over at only three stations before
destination.

Umar, who stated this in Abuja on Friday while giving account
of stewardship by his ministry in the last three years, said the
train service would be competing favourably with air transport
service.

Stressing the importance of functional transportation system,
the minister said: “The role of transportation in the socio-
economic and political development of any nation cannot be
over-emphasised as developments in all other sectors of the
economy depend on the efficient performance of the transport
system.

“Generally, the fundament goal of the transport sub section
under the transformation agenda is to develop an adequate,
safe, environmentally sound, efficient and affordable,
integrated transport system within the framework of a
progressive and competitive national and international market
economy.”

Umar further stated that the rehabilitation over 90 percent of
existing narrow gauge lines throughout the country was
ongoing, being the first segment of the 25-year railway
strategic vision.

The minister said intra and intercity train services had since
been restored in Lagos, Kaduna, Kano, Offa, Minna, Ibadan
and others, adding that rail system targeted about five million
passengers in 2014.

He listed companies patronising train cargo system for their
products to include the Flour Mills, Lafarge Cement, Inland
Container Limited, Eastern Line Contractors, NRC and
Connectrail Limited.

Thank you sir. So, how much do you intend to loot from this your project? We all know that any project carried out by Nigerian ogas at the top is a "Soup don done" project. It's national cake "shearing" in disguise and, the project will be dumped at any stage as soon as the last man collects his "shear" of the national cake.

1. I see a boost in abuja's GDP

3. Lagos population will lessen
Re: Expect 3hrs Fast Train Ride From Lagos To Abuja Soon - Minister by Nobody: 10:21am On Nov 01, 2014
After wasting billions on those slowpoke rails, anyways i can't wait for this to become reality, i will definitely move out of Lagos while my business remains there.

Btw this can only happen if we kill corruption. Nigerians vite wisely, no refineries since 2012 of subsidy reduction.

Pessimism has truly become the middle name of most people.
Even when these trains come onstream, many will still have negative declarations to make.

How una dey take do am? Steady 24/7 bad-mouthing everything and everyone except yourselves.

SE,SS and NE are losers as long as rail way construction and revitalization is concerned. GEJ administration has failed the SE and SS of Nigeria. No meaningful project is going on in this two regions of Nigeria.

My brother i want to agree with you that the worst federal roads are arguably in the SouthEast but JonaTAn has not only failed the SE, he has failed the entire country

all the federal projects here in the southwest ae just paper projects. The federal roads here are also very bad too

The 25yr master plan implementation has been going on gradually with the rehabilitation of current rail lines and equipment and expansion of current services. The master plan includes the integration of high speed rail lines into our transportation system. The only problem Nigeria has right now is that despite the obvious progress going on right now in the railway sector, a particular group of people want us to be blind by force to such progress. Their plan no go work lailai

nothing meaningful is happening there.Nobody has travelled through that rail line since FG commenced its revitalization project which they said will be completed by Dec 2013. Today, you hear they have completed PH-bEnue,tomorrow you hear they have reached Gombe but no train has conveyed goods or passengers along that route.

All of Jonathan's achievements are in future tenses:

-FG will soon....

-FG plans to...

-FG to....

-FG promises to...

-FG contemplates...

-FG proposes...

-FG targets...

Never will you find "FG Has"!!

Damn shame.

I'm in enugu now along fire service road,I just saw a train pass not more than an hour now. We had to stop for the train to pass.

Enugu to ph is still undergoing minor rehabilitation and I know this because me and my cousin were subcontractors to Esser the Turkish company handling the project.

Though some of the railway workers complain about the Turks, saying that the contract should've been given to the Chinese.

In my opinion, Lagos to Abuja route isn't that important. Maybe Lagos to Onitsha would've been better.

Looking forward to this, though the "never-see-anything good-in-GEJ" gang won't believe as usual.

Nigeria will move forward whether they like it on not.
