roforoforofofo 50,000 MUMUs living it rough aren't these modafakas supposed to seeking to help their fellow suffering MUMUs, instead of running their smelly mouths anyhow? chei suffering and smiling abi?50,000 displaced MUMUgerians living in extremely difficult conditions – Red Cross November 5, 2014Ibanga Isine The International Committee of the Red Cross, ICRC, on Wednesday released a report indicating that over 50,000 persons displaced by insurgency in Nigeria’s North-east zone are living in extremely difficult conditions. ICRC’s Head of Delegation in Nigeria, Karl Mattli, said the organisation has distributed food and household items to displaced persons who are taking refuge in Maiduguri, Borno State. “Not only did people have to flee their homes in Kodunga, Kaga, Gwoza and Damboa, they also lost all their belongings and their means of earning a living. They didn’t have enough food and they lacked important basic items,” said Mr. Mattli. “The additional strain placed on communities by hosting the displaced reached the point where it was more than they could bear.” After carrying out an assessment of the situation, Mr. Mattli said the ICRC and the Nigerian Red Cross launched an emergency operation to meet urgent needs. ICRC staff and more than a hundred Nigerian Red Cross volunteers distributed 960 metric tonnes of food and other relief items to 51,000 displaced persons. Most displaced people who arrived in Maiduguri in the past few months were settled in government buildings, schools or official camps. Some stayed with relatives or host families, with whom they shared scant resources, while others found refuge in informal settlements. Whatever their living arrangements, the displaced cannot afford to buy their own food and, therefore, have had to depend on aid provided by the state or on the generosity of others to survive. “In the short term, the aid we have just distributed will improve significantly the well-being of the displaced,” said Janet Angelei, an ICRC economic-security specialist working in Nigeria. “The kitchen sets, blankets, soap, mats, hygiene items and tarpaulins we have provided will meet some of their immediate needs and reduce the burden on the hosting families.” The ICRC also distributed about a month’s supply of rice, beans, oil and salt. “Since fleeing our homes, we had not received any significant help,” Abdullahi Abuya from Konduga is quoted to have said. “Some of us had barely had anything to eat for weeks, but now things are better.” In cooperation with the Borno State health ministry, the ICRC said it has undertaken to upgrade the Mala Kachalla primary health-care centre in Maiduguri and train the centre’s staff. It has built a water tower with a 4,000-litre tank and installed a solar-powered water-supply system and completed renovation works the facility’s floors, ceilings, doors and windows. “The centre, which is now fully operational, offers general outpatient services with a special focus on children under five years of age, ante-natal, delivery and post-natal services, and patient stabilization prior to referral for secondary care,” said Bernadette Gleeson, head of ICRC surgical and first-aid programmes in Nigeria. Because of the displaced people arriving in Maiduguri, the centre’s catchment population has now been put in excess of 100,000. Meanwhile, the ICRC said civilians fleeing fighting between the Nigerian Army and armed groups have recently arrived in the Diffa area, in Niger Republic. The displaced persons, mainly women and children, are said to have arrived from the Abadam area and Nigerian villages near Lake Chad. The ICRC report indicated that victims of the crisis lost everything and are entirely dependent on host communities and on aid provided by humanitarian organizations. To alleviate their suffering, the ICRC said it worked with the Red Cross of Niger Republic to distribute food to more than 2,000 people in Diffa and to over 3,500 people taking refuge on islands in Lake Chad at the beginning of October. The ICRC listed other activities it has carried out in Nigeria to include visit to detainees in over 20 detention facilities to assess the conditions in which they were being held. While it shared its findings with Nigerians authorities, its staff provided detainees with blankets, mosquito nets and cleaning and hygiene items to improve hygiene conditions and help make safe drinking water more easily available. In Kaduna and Plateau states, the organisation said it restored access to clean water for more than 80,000 people, while also providing monthly food aid to 880 women in Maiduguri who lost their husbands in the ongoing conflict. Again in Kaduna and Plateau states, the ICRC said it provided food and other aid for over 37,000 people displaced as a result of inter-communal violence. In partnership with the Plateau State Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the ICRC said it participated in a campaign to vaccinate 150,000 head of cattle and 50,000 head of sheep and goats in the state. It also supplied fertilizer and maize seed to close to 2,000 families to enable them to restart their farming activities as well as sent a mobile surgical team to help treat over 70 people injured in bomb blasts in Jos and Kaduna, respectively. In cooperation with the Nigerian Red Cross, the ICRC said it provided first-aid training for 1,850 people and taught more than a thousand people, mostly from the Nigerian military and the Nigerian Red Cross, proper ways of handling mortal remains.

12,000 Nigerians flee to Niger Republic ![]() By Timothy Enietan-Matthews on November 5, 2014 FacebookTwitterEmailPrintMore As the Boko Haram insurgency bites harder, over 12,000 Nigerians, mostly women and children are reported to have fled to Bosso, a local government area in Diffa Province of Niger Republic, Daily Trust reports. This, according to the report, was confirmed by Malam Issa Amadu, an official of the French rescue committee, International Rescue Committee (IRC). Amadu said more and more Nigerians are crossing to Niger Republic on a daily basis, adding that, “we are still compiling their names but the number is outrageous when compared to last year’s migration.” Amadu disclosed that about 4,000 of the refugees are taking shelter in Bosso town, over 5,000 are scattered in various villages around the town and an additional 2,000 are in Tudun-Dogo and environs. He disclosed that a committee had been set up by the government of Niger Republic, which recently distributed some relief materials to the displaced persons. The report says the refugees are facing threats from cholera, malaria, as they keep complaining of stomach ache. The IRC is reported to have sent some health personnel to the camps but things are getting worse. Some refugees who spoke to Daily Trust complained about the situation they found themselves, the water they drink and mosquito bites, which they said may be responsible for the health situation in their camp. According to them, their only access to clean water is when the Niger Republic authorities pump water to the town at night. But when that is exhausted; they are forced to drink from a nearby stream, described as not clean. Most of the refugees said they had to escape to Niger Republic because living under the insurgents stranglehold was unbearable. A refugee said he stayed with the insurgents in Jummaina for some days before escaping because he could no longer bear it. “I was never threatened by the insurgents because I never violated their rules or disobeyed their orders, but I was terrified when I witnessed the killing of two young men whom the insurgents claimed were civilian JTF personnel. They shot them in public and asked members of the community to bury the corpses. ”So because of that, I relocated to Niger Republic with my family,” he said. According to him, about 200 armed insurgents stormed the village on motorbikes and told the residents to remain as they were not there to hurt anybody. He said “initially they were peaceful but after some few days, they started killing people, especially youths in the community. They also started seizing our farm produce and abducting our young daughters as well.” Another refugee and father of 14, Malam Amadu said life under the insurgents was difficult because nobody was sure of his/her life and nobody was allowed to relocate from the captured villages, adding that “people only sneaked out of their villages because whoever is caught trying to leave a village will be killed by the insurgents. “Markets and schools are not operating in the insurgents’ controlled villages and towns. Not a single market or school is operating in the captured areas presently. They will also never allow you to take the crops you have cultivated outside the captured villages and towns and if you escaped from a village or town, all your belongings would be taken over by the insurgents,” he said. “Most of the captured villages and towns were deserted. Where you find 200 people in a captured village, you will discover that 150 are Boko Haram members because more than 80 per cent of the occupants have fled.” He said: “I am an indigene of Kebbi State and presently I am only waiting to decide whether we will stay here in Bosso permanently or we will go back to our state of origin, Kebbi. Honestly I am not going back to Jummaina.” For Malam Dauda Garba, there was confusion with the activities of the insurgents as no one knew what exactly they wanted, adding “they can announce a law in the night and change it in the morning. “We really don’t understand their motive. Another thing that is also confusing us is that only Hausa and Fulani people are fleeing their villages while the Kanuri stay in their villages. Most of us will not go back to our villages.” The 75-year-old father of eight was only able to escape with his wife and eight children as he was not able to take anything out of Kangarwa village in Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State. He said: “We are eating only grounded maize with groundnut oil here in Bosso. We don’t have any other food, shelter or clothes. We only rely on the assistance from other people. We normally send our children into the town to beg especially in the night whenever we do not get any assistance from others. We really need assistance from Nigerian government.” |

Also, 46 prison officers have also been killed since the inception of the insurgency. Speaking at a Forum of Spokespersons of Security and Response Agencies (FOSSRA)/I-Nigerian Initiative media interaction in Abuja, Tope Fanitikun, spokesperson for NPS said between July 27, 2009 when Boko Haram terrorists allegedly attacked Maiduguri Prisons and freed 482 inmates and October 29, 2014 when another set of 366 inmates were also freed following the overrun of Mubi, the second largest town in Adamawa State, a total 2,255 prison inmates have been freed from various prisons across the country in 14 different attacks. The NPS spokesperson who the negative societal attitude to ex-convicts, explained that there are robust training and productivity opportunities available to prisoners with full fledged industrial and small and medium scale enterprises established in this regard. Some of the vocations the prisoners are being trained in the detention facilities include furniture cottage industry, printing industry, toilet roll industry, soap cottage industry, shoe factory and an industrial complex aside 47 other agro-allied businesses scattered across the states. “National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) established special study centres in Kirikiri Medium Security Prison, Lagos, Enugu, Kuje, and Port-Harcourt with some inmates in Lagos bagging a university degree and post graduate diploma from NOUN. “69 inmates of Borstal Institution (young people’s prison), Kaduna sat for the UTME, while another 55 inmates enrolled for the November/December NECO/WAEC examinations,” said the NPS spokesperson. He added that government has also increased feeding allowance of inmates in Nigeria prisons from N200 to N300 and Gas N150 daily from January 2015. According to him, 947 of these were young male offenders, 151 foreigners, 10 babies and 1,439 have been sentenced to die. The spokesperson attributed the problem of congestions in Nigeria prisons to a number of factors including inadequate operational vehicles, citing the case of Lagos and Kaduna with over 200 and 100 courts and the NPS has only 20 and 10 vehicles respectively to convey inmates to courts for trials. Fanitikun also called for provision of heavy arms and ammunition for the service including helicopters and armoured personnel carriers for it to be able to respond to incessant attacks on prison formations and personnel. In her welcome address, National Coordinator of I-Nigerian Initiate, Ada Stella Apiafi appealed to Nigerians to change their negative attitude towards prisoners, ex-convicts and prison officials, saying “these people should be shown love and accommodation in the society so that they will be properly re-integrated. She commended the NPS and urged that its staff will continue to exhibit exemplary behaviour in spite of the challenges confronting them. |

Acting on a tip-off that three people, including two Nigerians, were selling cocaine in the city, sleuths of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) conducted a raid at a guesthouse in Triplicane on February 11, 2012. They seized a cache comprising 122 grams of cocaine worth Rs 4.3 lakh, 10 Singapore dollars, 20 Honk Hong currencies and Rs 69,000 cash, besides two mobile phones. They arrested Chukwuemeka Damasus Chinedu, a Nigerian, while two others escaped. Chinedu was charged under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. During trial proceedings, Chinedu claimed innocence and said the police had foisted a false case against him. However, special judge V Ramamurthy found him guilty. "This court in view of the elaborate discussion comes to a conclusion that the prosecution has proved the seizure of 122 grams of cocaine from the accused beyond all reasonable doubt," said the judge. Considering the plea of the accused that he was a first time offender and was lured by another person, the judge said, "This is not a case which requires imposition of more stringent punishment, as the minimum sentence provided under the Act itself is stringent," he said. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on him |

Yola: the next Boko Haram target? ![]() Nigeria (MNN) — Last week’s Boko Haram takeover of Mubi, the second-largest city in Adamawa State, is creating a humanitarian crisis in nearby Yola. The black-flag Muslim terrorists have reportedly set their sights on Yola already, claiming it will be their next target. “There are 300,000 refugees coming into the community of Yola,” says Greg Kelley, Executive Director of World Mission. Kelley says World Mission’s Nigerian ministry partners, who are headquartered in Yola, tell him the city now holds more refugees than citizens. "It’s creating a real crisis on a humanitarian scale because these people are leaving with just the clothing on their back and their children underneath their arms, and that’s all they have when they arrive.” Meeting needs in Yola World Mission is helping their partners provide food, shelter, and medical care for the refugees coming to Yola. According to The Guardian, a second refugee camp had to be constructed because so many Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) were being transported to Yola from Mubi. A man listens to The Treasure in Nigeria. (Photo cred: World Mission) World Mission’s partners are also encouraging IDPs to hope, sharing with them an audio Bible called The Treasure. It’s a solar-powered device that can hold over 60 hours of New Testament Scripture in one of 5,000 languages. Kelley says just one of these hand-held devices has the potential to reach hundreds of mostly-Muslim refugees. Crowded in IDP camps with little else to do, and a desperate need for hope, IDPs make a captive audience for The Treasure. “So many of these people in northern Nigeria are oral learners,” Kelley explains. “One Treasure can impact hundreds of people as they’re all in these refugee camps listening to the Good News of Jesus Christ. “What an amazing opportunity to share the Gospel and be the hands and feet of Jesus as we respond to this humanitarian crisis.” Sending hope to Nigeria World Mission aims to send 1,000 Treasures into northern Nigeria before the end of the year. Part of their goal has already been met, thanks to last week’s anniversary celebration. World Mission celebrates 20 years of ministry with family and friends. (Photo cred: MNN) Most importantly, keep praying for Nigeria. ![]() Pray that Boko Haram’s campaign of terror can be stopped in its tracks. Pray that as refugees in Yola are introduced to Jesus through The Treasure, they will accept Him as Savior. Pray that World Mission will meet their goal of funding 1,000 Treasures by the end of 2014. |

PetroDolla3:Noise making coward, you're afraid of quoting your God, I see. Are you avoiding another thorough pummeling or something? ![]() https://punch.cdn.ng/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/Iddrisu-top-left-and-Cendric.jpg NDLEA arrests Ghanaian comedian for drug ingestion A Ghanaian comedian, Musah Iddrisu, and a Congolese, Inana Cedrick, have been arrested the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency. Iddrisu and Cedrick were arrested during the inward and outward screening of Ethiopian airline passengers respectively at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu. NDLEA Commander at the airport, Mr. Udoh Nsikak-Abasi, said, “Iddrisu was found to have ingested 450 grammes of cocaine. He was on his way to Thailand. Cedrick was caught with 1.500 kilogrammes of heroin which he tried importing into the country. “A third suspect, a Nigerian, John Nwadilichukwu, was also arrested. He was to receive Cedrick at the airport, collect the drug and pay him for smuggling the drug.” The heroin was said to have been hidden inside a luggage. Twenty-year-old Cedrick, who claimed to be a secondary school student in Tanzania, said, “I was given the drug in Nairobi by a Nigerian woman who told me to give the drug to her husband, Nwadilichukwu, in Enugu. “I wanted to use the money they promised to pay me in buying beads for sale in Tanzania. I am a secondary school student from a poor home.” Iddrisu, aka Charles Udunehi, who bought the cocaine for $19,000, said he had wanted to sell them in Thailand. He said, “I got involved in drug trafficking because of my financial predicament. I bought the drugs in Ghana, ingested it and came to Enugu airport. As it is a new airport, I felt the security will not be like other airports, but I was wrong.” Chairman of the NDLEA, Mr. Ahmadu Giade, said adequate efforts had been made to apprehend drug traffickers at the Enugu airport. He said, “We have already deployed our officials to the Enugu airport before it commenced international flights. Adequate security measures have been put in place to apprehend drug traffickers at the airport.” |

Why start such a daft thread? If was not for the white man drawing our borders in Africa, a particular way, who to say we may not have been part of the same country. Listen ignore the borders and ignore the concept of country and cherish our success as a people. It is a tragedy that Africans fight wars to defend borders that they did not even create. Lets put ourselves above the evil and nonsense of colonialism, by uniting and supporting ourselves just in the way Nkrumah envisioned. Wale112: |
