Lance Copral Emeka(not real name) saw the advancing hoards of armed almajiris and told his compatriot, Sgt. Adebola(not real name): "guy, make we bail out. I no fit kill myself because of any ab-oki". With that the over 300 soldiers stationed in Damboa abandoned there post and fled, leaving behind high calibre weapons that was bought with tax payers money. The almajiri jihadist came, gleefully packed the weapons-gotten for free- to there base in Sambissa forrest. This scenario repeated itself in Gwoza and recently in Mubi. I don't blame the soldiers. Nobody wants to carry another persons cross. But my issue is this; if the soldiers don't want to use the weapons procured for them why don't they just give the people to protect themselves. Many refugees from Gwoza and Mubi say that if they had guns, they would rather have died defending there land than become refugees in there fatherland.
Let nobody decieve us, the Nigerian Army is well equipped. We saw the high calibre weapons they abandoned in Gwoza for BH. The only issue we have is low morale of soldiers. If the soldiers are not ready to die then just give the people to protect themselves. Eyewitnesses say BH that came into Mubi came in just 4 cars and one armoured tank. These same guys scared away a whole Army Battallion (1000+ soldiers) who removed there uniform and joined civilians in fleeing. Even with the heavy weapons the army have. Mubi youths swear that if they had such arms that the army have in Mubi, they would have finished BH boys since its there land. They have no other place to call home.

I agree with them. If the soldiers don't want to use there weapons, please just give the civilians there to defend themselves with it. When the war is over then collect it back.

A Real Dumb Idea
Re: B H: Why Don't The Army Just Give People Weapons To Protect Themselves? by dekronik: 10:19pm On Nov 07, 2014
Those who say this idea is dumb what then is the solution. Do we keep blaming GEJ? He has done his own by buying weapons. What then? Do you want him to go to the battlefield? If soldiers are running and leaving the weapons for BH how do we win this? How can just about 100 boko chase out a whole battallion from a big city like Mubi? Don't forget that Vimtim the village of CDS Alex Badeh had nearly 400 soldiers. Add that to the battalion in Mubi you have nearly 1400 soldiers running away from just about 100-150 almajiris. Abandoning nearly 50 hilux, 5 armored tanks and countless guns for boko boys to pack. Is that what we want? Since soldiers are not using it the give it to those who are ready to.

Op, that's not just possible ' see any day our armies adapt to such idea? Just forget hope of peace in this country cuz nigerians will abuse such privilege. And btwn the situation we are in is not up to that let assume the current govt take this up as their responsibilities to protect life and properties , I was also sO ashamed of my con3 the other day Amanpour@cnn referring B.H as group of 100 gun men terrorizing nigeria, all this issue is from the current govt and their cabals they all know what's going on.

A LESSON FOR ALL NIGERIANS
Mubi, the biggest commercial town in Adamawa state, was thrown into chaos the day Boko Haram descended on them and the people found themselves running for their lives. The terrorists shot sporadically, killing a lot of people while those who could escape jumped into any available car to run to safety. Christians, Muslims, Igbos, Yorubas, Tivs, Hausas and any tribe or religion, jumped onto any vehicle that was headed outside the town. Soldiers scampered onto trucks with civilians, begging to be saved, hundreds of people who could not get a vehicle ran into the hills. In their frantic effort to stay alive, no one paid attention to anybody's religion or ethnicity before asking them for help or helping them to stay alive. It was a community of people, united by their desire to escape the common enemy that hunted them all without discrimination. Ethnicity and religion vanished, all they were left with was their humanity. Those climbing the hills stayed together, helping one another stay on their feet as they all tried to survive.

The most interesting part of the narrative is that the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Badeh is from the same town of Mubi. It has been reported that few hours before the attack, helicopters flew in and evacuated his family members from the town. The chief of Defence staff by the way, is the most senior military officer in Nigeria and he controls the army, navy and air force. Before that sad day, someone from Mubi would have boasted that the Chief of Defence Staff is from their home town. But on the day that it mattered the most, he evacuated only his family members and abandoned everyone else to their fate. It means he had information of the impending attack and as the most senior military commander, he did not fly into the town to lead his men to battle to defend his community. He quietly saved only his family and left even the soldiers without an inspiring commander to motivate them to engage the terrorists and defend his community.

One lesson all Nigerians must learn from this story is that as a people, all we have is our neighbours. When you need some help at home, you knock on the door of your neighbour. The president, governor, senator or minister is not there to help you. Why then should you continue to fight your neighbour because of a man or woman who cares only about his own family? Our elites may deceive us about sharing the same religion or ethnicity with us, but time and again, they have proven that they do not care. We have been fools, killing one another on the basis of religion and ethnicity while they stay united across all the divides and plunder our wealth. The time has come for us to rise, educate one another and unite to fight our biggest common enemy. The politicians are our enemies and not the poor struggling men and women in our neighbourhoods.

What now will the people of Mubi boast about as the gain of having their son as the chief of Defence Staff? If you go to Otueke where Jonathan comes from, there are many people who live in excruciating poverty! There is still a lot of poverty and suffering in the home towns of all our governors, ministers, parliamentarians and former presidents, while they and their families live in scandalous affluence. The minister of petroleum spent over 10 billion Naira on a private jet. That money can end the poverty of several communities in her state. Stella Oduah bought two cars with 120 million Naira while there are people in her home town who can't afford 500 Naira to feed their family in a day. The time to throw away the sentiments is now! Support only a man or woman who has a just heart and will serve everyone and every community regardless of if they come from there or not. The moment anyone begins to talk to you about religion or ethnicity, reject him summarily! We need leaders who will unite us because our shared humanity is greater than any differences between us. And if someone does something wrong or fails in governance, do not support them simply because they're your own. Share the message.

as far as i am concerned Nigerian soldiers are glorified boys scout simple! They are very good at intimidating armless civilians or burning of brt buses but if you organise yourself with ordinary cutlass they will disapear to the thin air.

If they start sharing guns around now after fighting BH we'll start killing each other.

Even now as citizens supposedly don't have arms there's a lot of killings. Think of how it will be when every man of fighting age has a gun. It will be worse.

Meanwhile there's a lot of small arms circulating around Nigeria especially in the middle belt amidst civilians. If only you know

Even in more politically advanced climes like the U.S of A, gun control laws are still being manipulated or outrightly flaunted resulting in countless cases of gun-related violence...yet they have a more robust judicial system. Compare that with our judicial and chronic below par enforcement of law: an anarchy in the making.

The only guns and projectiles that should be allowed are...WATER GUNS and CATAPULTS. We want a sane country.

You see, even Amanpour said it. The truth BH just have psychological edge over the army. If we have brave and courageous soldiers like those who were in Konduga, these boko boys will be in hell by now. But the unfortunate thing is that we have people who join the army as a sort of "poverty alleviation program". Just imagine one of the Lt Col.who was running away frm BH in Mubi had a ghastly motor accident and broke almost four bones in his body. If he had stayed and bravely commanded his boys he might just be enjoying beer and isewu this night in Mubi.

Exactly the point. They flog and harass people down south but simply run away from ordinary almajiri up north. Simply unacceptable.

I concur, the civilian JTF were the real one facing boko haram even with their inferior weapons.

Nigerian sodiers join the force not to protect but to oppress the bloody civilians.

Another problem with NA is the corrupt recruitment process. Majority of nigerian sodiers have small stature, huge people would be screened out in favor of who has an oga at the top. And the officers are
Ajebos- rich men children that don‘t have mind.

Chike Orjiako asks questions on the activities of Boko Haram.

"I 've asked this question before and I will keep asking until I get a satisfactory answer " who owns the fuel station where this guy's refuel their vehicle?"

Who provides them food including other logistics?

If hunger could be used as legitimate instrument of war to subdue Biafra, what's stopping the Nigerian authorities from applying this time tested weapon on an illegitimate war?

Somethings really beat my imagination. Am a victim of the Biafran onslaught and keep wondering if the terms of war have changed ? Somebody please help me?

Nigerian soldiers running away from this rag tag army without base?

Can't we unleash the entire Nigerian army on these guys and get done with this matter once and for all?

Certain things make me weak. Nigeria now depends on lesser countries to defend us ..countries whose very survival in all regards depends on us?

Haba. ..how much lower can we sink?
