The Doctor (Endocrinologist) who saw him at LUTH a&e is "querying" CLD. The diagnosis is not firm and unconfirmed, hence reason they requested he undergoes further scans...

If those tests and CT scan was all that was carried out so far, all this indicates is that the Doctor suspected a cancerous tumour/internal bleeding and tested for this...so the only clinical investigation so far only reveals Ascites.



Ascitis is clearly visible as its a symptom and needs no test at this stage to confirm. Ascitis is a reaction to an underlying problem and for Ascitis to show up as a symptom then its CLD thats the root cause. do you get it now? Even though it may have a link to his pancreas but its more likely to be CLD due to other symptoms which the OP has also raised. I believe the pains he feels in his stomach comes whenever he manages to eat anything (please OP confirm this). His spleen and liver may be bigger than normal at this time so cannot be missed on a scan. besides that a laporoscopic intrusion has to be done to get a biopsy of his liver so as to check for cancerous growths..

You guys just dont get it. This Is not a broken leg or a headache or diarrhea. THIS IS CLD and its an emergency. This guy needs to be in ICU at this point. There are other things that accompany CLD and these also need to be handled so lets not assume its as simple as saying "take him to this and that hospital" the doctors here cannot handle this. He needs a to be on a ventilator, a heart monitor, a dialisis machine and while waiting for a transplant, a diversionary pipe hooked up to his liver in order to rest and divert blood flow around it. He is at risk of internal bleeding and a gradual dysfunction of other internal organs( already he is complaininh of his inability to pass urine) HE NEEDS TO BE FLOWN OUT AND NOW!

Has been following this tread, before thinking of flowing him out they have to exhaust all the options available in the country. Flowing him abroad will not be cheap.My cousin once suffered from similar alignment. All the symptoms OP mentioned was present in her case. She was treated in Enugu(Colliery hospital to be precise) it's an old hospital.her case was worse and she was treated very well. The consultant in the hospital is a specialist in this case. Am not in medical line & may not know the things involve but I know my cousins case was worse than that of OP.
People in the medical line should make inquiries about the hospital and the consultant. I don't know his name.

LUTH issue, I say NO because my dad died with the same ailment, he was refferred from FMC in Abeokuta. They used him as an experiment despite having a brother who works there for many years. We spent his life savings doing test and buying drugs, he was never in the ICU for 10mins.The student doctors on housemanship just looked, did some writing and left till he passed away after about 8days.

I suggest UCH or the abroad issue, its no small problem folks, it gets worse every day.

Smh! in my last post I did state that he may be having abdominal pains after eating. and this has just been confirmed by marcjane. This is a classic case of CLD. This is not a case of "lets treat him in abeokuta" its a case of having a transplant carried out. I am beginning to sound like a broken record. At this juncture I will just be an observer because money wi be thrown away at abeokuta and as they would surely also refer him elsewhere after doing their own trial and error.

I totaly agree wt u,am a nurse wkn at accident n emergency of one of d teaching hospitals if its a confirmed case of CLD,it can only b managd wt drugs d only cure is a liver transplant,i advice strongly dt dy go direct to UCH,no nd wastn tyn in any other hosp,pls dy shld tk ds advice seriously

Forunmites recommended UCH.But the Family insist they have cases like this that was cured at that Abeokuta Hospital..There is little nairalanders can do in that regard anymore--We can only wish him speedy recovery and keep the Donations coming

i wish him speedy recovery but need to add this,i am yoruba and i know how they do when poor and you have cases like this.If you read in between the lines in his words,the doctors said they can not see anything in his tommy,thats a yoruba thinking aloud.I tell you,thats the main reason they feel Abk is the best place to go.From the doctors name,you would realise he as the powers to consult the oracle about his case.They actually do not want to believe it is normal,i do not blame them,its because of money but i would say why did he go to luth when we would have gone to Abk initially?I have done the needful by sending what i feel right but will be sad it all this funds go down the drain without a useful result.Our 1st mistake was that we all sent the funds to his account,if we had sent it to Luth or Uch,i believe non of his family would have told us he would not go.I wish you best of treatment.God bless us

The bolded is the mistake we make most of the times.When an issue that is health related goes Public,its no longer in the hands of the family,its in the hands of specialists and consultants.Would we all have supported them if they wanted an herbalist to treat him?Remember we do not have all the time,going from abk to ibadan and lagos takes time and risk.He is going by road and not by air.Atimes you could sit in a bus for 5 hours before you get to ibadan,even Abk......Time is not a friend here
