i am a depression survivor, and her death is not the school's fault, it was due to her mental illness.

My heart goes out to the poor girl, she was under intense pressure from her mother to do well at school and I think she must have suffered a nervous breakdown due to all of the pressure piled on her.

If anyone is to blame its the mother, stop pushing your children to fufil dreams that you failed to achieve yourself, leave them to be who they want to be or else you will get rebellion in the form of suicide, hatred or even attack on you the parent. The mother needs to look inward instead of blaming outsiders, the young girl was gifted but couldn't cope with the huge expectations heaped on her shoulders.

We know school reports child abuse and other things not right to the police/hospital.

I think we don't have d full story but the mother partly shares d blame......she's aware of her daughter's condition n d girl should have been placed under some form of controlled learning conditions. If d school knows of her condition, then d instructor is liable......when she caught d girl cheating, she should have involved d school counsellor, given her condition. But this is rhetoric as d girl is dead. What are d lessons learnt from this unfortunate episode?

The school will probably make an offer to settle out of court before trial. This is often what happens. The mother will get a few hundred thousand dollars to make the case go away.

I doubt if this case was going to end there had she not killed herself
She would have had serious repercussions which could include being thrown out of the school for good
Cheating is a very serious thing in the USA
It can get you fired instantly from a job and school
She turned in her paper and excused herself to the bathroom and never came back
