Pan-Yoruba association, Afenifere Renewal Group, has said the recent attempt by President Goodluck Jonathan to woo the Yoruba nation to support his re-election bid is too late. The group, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Kunle Famoriyo, described the Yoruba Progress Summit, which held last Friday, in Ile-Ife, as an afterthought and a futile effort to “sneak the President into Yoruba land through the backdoor.” It said, “For the past five years under his administration, the Yoruba people have been deliberately marginalised and skewed out of national reckoning, especially in terms of key appointments and opportunity to partake in key sectors of the economy. “We are surprised that President Jonathan believes the position of the Speaker, over which he has no control, is enough to atone for the deliberate marginalisation in key appointments, over which he has control. “In any case, we do not need a ‘Progress Summit’ in Yoruba land. We already have a progressive culture based on democratic and egalitarian |

values. What the Yoruba nation needs is how to be delivered from the retrogressive forces imposed on us by the Nigerian state. “The Yoruba nation was well ahead in terms of development until the forced union called Nigeria began to steal our institutions from us. The Obafemi Awolowo University, being one of the stolen institutions, is good only to address the need to restructure Nigeria, not for an effort to sustain the status quo.” The group said the Yoruba nation would only be pleased by a return to regional government through the maximum devolution of powers and a return to parliamentary democracy. It said regionalism was the best form of governance that would give different regions the opportunity to develop at their pace and contribute their quota to Nigeria’s development. The group dismissed the summit by saying it was convened by people who are falsely parading themselves as leaders of the Yoruba people. http://www.punchng.com/politics/jonathans-attempt-to-woo-yoruba-too-late-afenifere/ |

GEJ never knew that the yoruba stood by the door knowing he will still pass through it. we are not some people who will be lured with a mere name like Azikwe never. |

GEJ is a confused man who sets out to achieve something without knowing how to go about it. For him to even think that Ooni and his cohorts are the personalities who can back him through the back door to Yorubaland is laughable. The ooni that is not even loved by his people. The Ooni that sold out during Abacha regime. The Ooni that was awarded the contract for the Ibadan-Ife road but failed to do a good job. The Ooni that has been losing relevance since God knows when. The fact remains that, for GEJ to even get 30% of votes in SW in the next general election, PDP will need to move all the military personnel there just as they did in the last Osun election. Anything short of that will be catastrophic for them. On the other note, I still find it very difficult to understand why Nigeria cannot go back to regionalism to prosecute her affairs. |

Good someone is telling him the nakid truth to his face. He should go continue his romance with the Theodore Orjis and Akpabios of this world. The SW doesn't need him! |

it is pay back time...we have bn waiting for him for the last 4 yrs. Let see how he will win a free or rigged election without the large percentage of the North and SW. All these sweet talk cannot win us over. He has shown he is not a president for all. Sweet talk, 'i had no shoes' speech and gudluck will not be enough for him this time. |

gnykelly:Trust yoruba people, they dont fall for such nonsense. If gej likes, he should add awolowo or Odudua to his name, yoruba people wont be that stuupid to fall for such watery and corrosive antics from the clueless one. Where is the smartness yoruba people are known for, if they fall for gej who's adjudged by all not to be that smart? It wont happen! |

I have liked comments above thus far, we SW have been patiently waiting, patiently watching the game, don't worry GEJ, thread on yoruba, neglect us in your administration/cabinet, favour all your cohorts, you will surely come back to beg, and when you do? Don't expect us to be foolish, thank you *curtain drawn*. |

macolino:We are way past all that now. Who cares whether the person ruling is an Hausa, Igbo or Yoruba as long as he is doing the right thing. You expect people to vote in GEJ just because of he is from the South even though he is supervising the biggest corruption ever visited by any government on the National Treasury. |

I hate it when people take that sillly tribe thing personal... AM A NIGERIAN, YORUBA IS MY SECOND LANGUAUGE NOT MY TRIBE OR SOME DIMENSION , IF I HAPPEN TO LEARN IGBO, TIV, HAUSA, ITESEKURE. THEY ALL BECOME OTHER LANGUAGES I KNOW. I DON'T BELIVE IN THAT TRIBAL SHIIT. #SAYNOTOTRIBALISM #UNITEDNIGERIA |

macolino:what wrong with buhari? When you are not handling ur government very well u give chance to oppositin party to attack you. That is what is happening presently.............Their is no yoruba in the top 20 post in nigeria currently which ought not to be so...........I wont vote for jonathan if he cant end insurgency. |

And who made afenifere the mouth piece of the yoruba's, they should speak for themselves. Jonathan is not the problem of the yoruba's but the yoruba's..am yet to see a party or candidate that is better than jonathan. Is it atiku, buhari or kwankwasho? Very laughable |

| Re: Jonathan’s Attempt To Woo Yoruba, Too Late – Afenifere by skyfall: 4:04pm On Dec 01, 2014 |
They have spoken well, that visit to OAU was a fraud which we can easily see through. Since he has proven himself to be an Ijaw/ND/PDP president rather than that of the entire Nigeria, the SWers will also show him that they don't want him. |
