Moving from a crude oil dependent nation to an Agriculture dependent nation is like moving from frying pan to fire, unfortunately that is what many people are ignorantlt suggesting.
What we need is a truly diversified economy where manufacturing and industries play a key role. The Agricultural sector should also be developed to make us food secure and also provide raw materials for industries.
If you want to know what an Agriculture dependent Nigeria will look like, there are a few African countries we can cite as examples and they aren't better off.
Moving from being dependent on crude oil to exporting unprocessed Agricultural products is not progress, it is retrogression.
What we need is serious industrualization.
You are partly not correct.Without a vibrant agricultural sector, where will the industries get their raw materials from; meaning that they will have to import raw materials thereby giving employment to people in other countries at the expense of Nigerians.

Don't mind them, I laugh when they mention agriculture all the time like it will lead us to some sort of eldorad. Prices of Agricultural products are also falling.
We need steady power and the industries that come with it.

That is what I am talking about, it should be the base on which every other economy is built up on

That's never going to happen because the demand for crude oil is not just based on energy provision, it's by-product are also needed as raw materials etc and also solar technology is not efficient enough for sophisticated energy solutions., rather I think nuclear energy is a better alternative or replacement for power solutions.
Do you know that crude oil is non-renewable energy? In some years to come, our crude oil will all.be exhausted.Do.you know that some crops are used to produce environmental friendly oil which can are used as a source of energy?
I see Nigeria producing oil from renewable agricultural products that can never be exhausted in years to come.

Gbam!
Proceeds from primary Agriculture cannot build us power stations, bridges, world class roads and other infrastructures, unless we can set up industries where we process those agricultural output into finished products, in that case, it has gone from agriculture to manufacturing.
Countries that depend on the kind of ''produce and export'' agriculture many Nigerians are suggesting are dirt poor and survive on foreign aid.
Do you know that when agriculture sector was vibrant,Nigeria reach her peak in infrastructural development,Cocoa house was built,Free education,Universities was built throughout the federation, roads, bridges and whole lot of infrastructural development.
Agriculture can be the bedrock of infrastructural development.
Without vibrant agricultural sector, industries cannot survive or if they do,it will be at the expense of the citizens.

Many ppl have no idea what agriculture is they fink agriculture is only abt planting rice and beans..they don't know that the basic need of man is Food ahelter and clothing and the primary source of this is Agriculture. UsA which is one of the highest demand for oil has decided to move the shale. So no matter what oil prices cannot get back to normal.. Agric is way bigger than all of u think and many countries survive on it... The only problem we have is processing. If we can process our agric porducts to finish products then we gonna be a super rich country and from there we can diversify into other sectors....Ơ̴̴͡.̮Ơ̴̴̴͡ you can't do agric the right way and be poor because I feel its what God Told us to do as human...from ur toiling of the land shall you eat...

The OIL market is no more feasible for Nigeria particularly with the present market survey and the Americans shale oil, alternative sources of energy.
