Was just wondering how many people in Nigeria got their job through linkedin. If you did, please
share below or anyway Linkedin has helped you. And if you are a recruiter, or you work in HR,
I'll like to know if you check linkedin at all for potential employees.

Not job yet but I've gotten 2 invitations for interview from head hunters (jobs I didn't apply for or was aware of... You have to have a well put together profile to make this possible). I eventually stopped pursuing the first one few days to my second interview while I'm still on the second. It's a great tool, I advice that any career focused person takes it seriously.

P/S: was also contacted as a Subject Matter Expert by some business intelligence agency. I granted them a one hour interview and they paid me 100 dollars

Wow! Interesting

Linkedin is a matured platform for getting first hand Job info and Job referral. If there is any place i recommend to you, then thats linkedin or you can patronize some Nigerian owned job portal.

Hmmm most times i wonder if recruiters even search for people they want over LinkedIn. Its a professional network and most times when you send contacts personal messages they insult you and end up telling you they don't give jobs and that you should improve on your degree...B.sc no get value again... Make i go do masters then hear whether they go say make i go improve on my degree, maybe na PhD i go go do next...God dey shall, someday we'll all look back and smile.

LinkedIn played a role when I changed job almost 3 years ago.

How?

I had an interview with the company, and the email invite said: Ask to see XYZ when you get there.

I had no clue about the company before that final interview because up until that time, the firm the recruitment was outsourced to (one of the Big 4 professional services firms) did not tell me the name of the company. The Guardian advert and at all the earlier interviews, just said "a leading E&P company with operations in one of the Niger Delta states". It was with the invite to this final stage where I was to meet the company that the company name was revealed to me.

I googled the name of the contact on the email (LinkedIn wasn't so popular then) and Google directed me to his LinkedIn profile.

I checked his profile and saw he once worked with one of the affiliate companies to the company I was working then.

I quickly got in touch with a friend in that affiliate company whether she knew A who once worked in their company.

She said yes, that in fact he was his close friend and they attended same church.

I guessed he was going to be part of the interview panel.

I got as much information about him as I could from this mutual friend. I also got info about the company from him.

Co-incidentally, I heard they also used this mutual friend to do background check on me.

He was at the interview panel.

I got the job.

Other Related Experiences
I got interview invite from one of the telecoms companies. I applied through Linkedin.

I was also contacted on LinkedIn by an investment banker in the United States who asked for my opinion on one very top Nigerian oil company CEO after coming across an article I wrote about the person few years back. I guess he was doing background check/research about the company and their CEO.

I have been recruited several times and I have worked on one project as an independent contractor. I don't pay for premium.

BTW, while working in human resources for a multi-national company, we did use it as well as other social media forums to check up on applicants So Beware!

You can't find job on LinkedIn, but you can meet with potential employers. It's all up to you. Write full details about you and be active. It works.

What is important is your profile on linkedin.

when you are a PHD student please write student not candidate because a candidate you are only when you have written your thesis and you are waiting for the okay from the University.

write all what you have done, each program

when you make voluntary work

when you study and you work at the same time please write this

that is what headhunters search.

Your profil on linkedin should be the same like your CV.

Been contacted once for an interview... I couldn't make it to Lagos from PH in such short notice.

you only need a normal account the headhunters have the premium accopunts.

I have a good friend he is a headhunter for some big companies.

Pls;I av a linkedin account...can somebody in the house please enlighten us on how to make the best use of it,cos most times when I try to make a connect,it's always avn network probs....

Gotten a couple of offers, but I think there's a software/or people who do the recommendation/recruiting onbehalf of their firms on LinkedIn, I've never tried to click or open up the offers..

Nigerian employers are just too proud and full of themselves, they'd rather put up ads in the pages of the newspapers and have job seekers flock to them in droves for interview, than taking the time to look through ones Linkedin profile and calling them up for an interview. My point is, they prefer to have people come "beg" them for jobs than to go all out to call them up themselves. They feel too big!!
