singing songs, dancing and worship are all acceptable but they all have to be directed to God and God only.
when we come to God's presence we should knw it is no more abt us or our situation or circumstances surrounding us but it should be all abt God.
That is true worship and that is all God require from us.

funny but true. but OP are u trying to say people shouldn't sing again in church?
not at all! Just let there be this consciousness of understanding what one is singing. The excitement can turn churches to a theater you know.

I am beginning to think that this post was written by that Pharisee in Luke 18: 10 - 14 who felt like he knew how to worship God better than others, or was more righteous than the tax collector.

The love of God is conspicuously missing in this post. No matter how sinful a person is, it does not stop him from coming to the throne of God where mercy is to be obtained. Even if you leave church after worshipping and go to sin, mercy is still available.

And I also suggest you worship God in spirit and in truth, ignoring everything else around you and focus on His greatness and majesty while you sing praises to Him, rather than looking out for those who do not know the meaning of what they are singing.

It depends on the person leading the song,If he leads in the Spirit the Holy Spirit moves to work.I compose songs and i know what the Spirit does when one sings. It depends on the Spirit behind the song if its Holy Spirit expects John 4:23 but if its Evil spirit expect what u term hypocrisy. It also depends on the composer who compose the song if the inspiration is from God there will not be hypocrisy whenever the song is sang take for example, Don Moen u can't sing his songs like other song it takes upliftness in the Spirit to sing those song but most Nigeria music comes with the Inspiration of flaunt ur beauty, dancing style and of course more like a buisness so whenever these songs are sang u expect sing for singing sake, dance for dancing sake nd of course display ur high pitch voice. I say there should be revival in Gospel music and I sure know the Lord has raised those revivalist but they are yet to surface.May God help us and above us welcome us into Glory Amen.

Thank God that he looks at the heart and not the outward appearance. So whilst we can point fingers and accuse others of hypocrisy, God accepts their praise and supplication as genuine.
God will have mercy on whom He'll have mercy.

daveP:

1) There is "Something" that make me:

Well everyone would chant back in response "My Helper!!"

So you mean that if you don't need something from the Creator of your soul, you would'nt approach his presence?

You're looking for Husband or wife, its only then you remember God's presence? Who know whether your motive for your church-going is solely because of the handsome Ben Harris or delectable Oge Alberta? What makes you come to His Presence? Ask yourself.

But you do come to him when ur in need right? Plus that's not the only song you sing so let's assume that's the one you sing for when ur in need. But come to think of it, the Lord is ur helper (right? ) and whether it is to praise him or ask a favor, something brings you to his presence.

2) By the rivers of Babylon: I myself loved to sing it because it had this feeling attached to it (you shut your eyes and be "in the mood of worship" ,but if you know what captivity really is, and how the Israelites felt in a foreign land. You wouldnt even want to sing it in the real sense of it. Captivity is no joke! This song is highly conditional.

so captivity counts only when Egyptians have held you captive, right? Am sure u don't know that being held captive by sin is much worse. Rather than what can destroy just the body, fear more that which destroys both the body and the soul.

4) I surrender all:

People weep under the emotion that this song exhibits, but imagine leaving the church premises and yet you still do "all" or "part" of what you said you wanted to surrender? That makes one a liar!

if we were so perfect as to say it and stop it immediately, we wouldn't need forgiveness this bad. It's our imperfect nature that keeps taking us back. What matters is that ur truly sorry and are making efforts

5) I have decided to follow Jesus:

Perhaps the keyboardist has an influence because tunes are soulful. "decided" is past tense, which means the decision was active before you sang it. Ironic that you may not even follow Christ, or be like Him. Maybe that's why some keep silent in some churches when this song is ongoing! Commitment is costly.

I probably didn't make that decision today so it's in the past but that doesn't mean the decision no longer stands. The issue here is just tenses

6) Joy to the world, the Lord is come:

Go through every line of this carol hymn and you'll see beyond singing it just every December.

maybe I don't understand you, I actually had to go through every line and yeah its a cool song, you should be repeating the sounding joy.

No wonder a call to go back to the hymnals would do a lot for Christendom!

7) Touch me once again O Lord!:

When the minister is about to be welcomed for ministration, this song is always sung. Funny some don't even know how God touches someone. The only context they understand about "touching" is when Bro Lazarus is touched to give Sis Tamedu a a fat envelope.

the problem here is that you are beginning to enter into people's mind. STOP! That's left just for God and yeah! That envelope is touching too, isn't it?

cool Faithful are you Lord: grin

God is always, everly faithful. But imagine you know this "beloved sister or brother" across your street who earns cash via questionable terms singing this song? My God would not support such.

9) I go rise and shine:

You've said it, you've declared it, but you just dont act it! Repent!!!

10) (which deserves number 10)

Are you guilty in the real sense of it? To dance is lively, to know what you're dancing to is another

Drop yours also...

Ogbeni Op. That my helper song is very correct. So you want to deny that you need something from God? Everybody needs something from God. So its better to just say the truth.

If you take a critical look at every song, you would discover that 95% of songs you listen to have contradicting lyrics.

Hymnal songs are the best

Well in ma own opinion, its not all about whether na hymnal or not but solely has to do with a true relationship with God....even when hyms are sang, if ther is no sober reflection as to d real meanin of d wordings and how to apply dem in ones life, den its of no use cheesy my thoughts though grin
