Why don't you give your money to the needy like Jesus commanded? Where in the bible did Jesus tell us to give to the church? He always said give to those in need.

Lengthy post.. but this issue caused rukus in my church today when I raised the fact the Jesus our role model as Christians did not pay first fruit nor tithe.. A cumbersome and controversial topic.. one have to be careful when you are grazing the surface.. and ask the Holy spirit to give one better understanding.. am not saying it is wrong neither am I saying otherwise

Use you brain.

You don't give for the sole purpose of being blessed. You give first because you love. The blessings come later. Anyone can have the trappings of blessings. Jesus spoke of the rich man who went away sad because he like most of you couldn't give. There was no account that Jesus or the Father was angry at him and did anything untowards. Christianity is a faith. If the rain fell on only believers, people will seek God just because of rain, not because they love Him.

You too will not like a relationship where the party is in it because of what they an get alone. You will want to be loved, trusted and respected for who you are and you will test this and reward this at your own time. Christianity remains a Faith. Logic cannot work. You just cannot understand us.

If people didn't give to the church,the church wouldn't have had a property to buy for us to worship in,they wouldn't have had instruments with which service is conducted with,etc. God will not jump from heaven to build a churxh for man to worship in,he won't come down from heaven to donate drum sets and equipments,etc. The needy can't afford to put these things in place,the needy can't afford to give pastor money for church decoration for christmas,etc.

You cannot love God with your 'brains'. Just forget it. You cannot be a believer. 'With the heart a man believes unto righteousness.....with the mouth is confession made unto salvation' (para). If God came to earth with a calculator and estimated the probability of saving man, Jesus will not have died on the cross, its that simlple.

Nobody gives a rat a s s who you give your money to. However concerned and intelligent people among us can actually see through the charade of the so called Pastors that are robbing the poor masses of their meager resources to buy expensive jets.

February 2015 is elections period. Politicians are busy giving sacrifices and all what not to their native doctors, marabouts and shrines. They do it because they know what they are looking for, and they NEVER question the priests of those shrines as to what the cows, goats, human heads and other stuff are used for. And the fool who pushed this thread to the front page as well as the OP will never question that.

Now God asks his people to pay their tithes (compulsory), give useful offerings (compulsory, though amount is at the discretion of the giver depending on how blessed he is), help the poor (compulsory, and by doing something worthy that will change their lives, not by giving one tattered N10 note which is what I am sure the OP does), give to their parents, sow their first-fruits, etc. There are platforms for such giving. All of a sudden, it is now "robbery in January".

People like the OP keep writing garbage as if it is his money that is being used, and those who obey God's principles are reaping the benefit. 2015 is loaded. God will keep blessing his people.

And nobody gives a rat A S S about how "concerned and intelligent" you are. Last time I checked,nobody puts a gun to a church member's head to give. It's one thing for the pastor to preach it,and another thing for the members to obey. If you aren't convinced about it,nobody would query you. But trying to find fault in those giving,is a problem. You can't fight for God. Allow him to deal with those using His name to enrich themselves.

A first-fruit offering is not a compulsory offering. It is you the individual who decides to give it according to the revelation that God gives you concerning it. No pastor has a right to tell you that all your income for the month belongs to the church. It is a lie. The fact is that many of you do not read the bible to see things for yourselves. You take what many of the new age "pastors" tell you without searching for biblical backup to that principle.

The fact is that envy is what drives most of these rantings you see. Left to a natural man, they would prefer to see churches operating from thatch houses and always begging for help from outsiders. A normal average Nigerian cannot be happy when something good happens in the life of someone they know. Make dem go siddon. Those of us who decided to do what God expects us to do have been blessed and have never had cause to regret. Since 2006, I have never had a dry January. NEVER. I have more than 5 streams of income and God has just expanded it.

Let the frustrated people like the OP keep harassing themselves about other people's money instead of his own.

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of your faith. Of your faith. My pastor is not the author and finisher of my faith. I donot give because my pastor says so. I give because Jesus says so. So I can never be offended. By faith Abel gave a better offering than Cain....read the rest. Who was there with both of them, no one. So it means you cannot even give to God without any human involvement. Where is your faith mister.

You are absolutely right...and that is why we have a nation and society that is such an envy to the rest of the world. Can you see the big picture? You may know what you are doing but this cancer isn't individualistic in nature......

I have learnt by observation that those who always oppose wealth in church are one of these 3 things: Preachers themselves but broke and unable to fathom a rich preacher OR are just plain stingy folks OR just prefer to give where they get public praise and attention, where they'll be worshipped in return.

Firstly poster, if you love you will give. The same way you try to impress your girlfriend, your spouse, your parents is the same way you should try and impress the God you claim you love. 'For God so loved the world that He gave....' In fact, you can give without loving but you cannot love without giving.

Secondly, you may ask but God is not in need. True. He is the Author and Creator of all so why are we asked to give. Because God wants us to be partakers of His nature which is love thereby expunging from our system the worldly way of lust and greed. It is a platform of opportunity. It is a theatre of proof that one has escaped the power of satan that desires us to accumulate more and more. All great men of wealth and power in scriptures were tested. Some passed, some didn't.

Thirdly, Cain brought pickings of his huntings and Abel, produce of cultivation because those were the jobs available then. That was the currency of exchange. In the New Testament Peter offered his boat to Jesus as an offering. He was a fisherman. Jesus watched as the poor widow threw coins into collection. She was able to monetise her offerings. No one stops you from bringing whatever you wish unto the Lord but in these days of a unitary system of exchange in commerce and enterprise the easiest (for you the giver and the receiver) way to offer value will be through money. As in tithes it is quantifiable and best represents the produce of whatever effort God has enabled you make at work.

Even if you were a farmer today I doubt if you will take kindly to your boss paying you in catfish, eggs or ugwu leaves.
