Anglican Church Opposes Catholic-catholic Ticket In Enugu Guber Race by abdulkayus(m): 11:55am On Dec 18, 2014
The Anglican Communion Bishops in Enugu
state have opposed the Catholic-Catholic
Gubernatorial ticket of the PDP in the state
for next year's general election.
Speaking to newsmen in Enugu under the
aegis of the Enugu Ecclesiastical Province
yesterday Dec. 17th, the Anglican Bishops
led by Archbishop of the Enugu
Ecclesiastical Province, Most Rev Emmanuel
Chukwuma demanded that the Enugu
chapter of the PDP, zone the governorship
running mate slot to one of its members
otherwise they stand the chance of loosing
the Anglican Church's votes in next year's
election.
The Bishops said they welcomed the party's
consensus gubernatorial candidate, Hon
Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi who is a Catholic but are
opposed to the Catholic/Catholic
governorship ticket of the party..
“We the Anglican Bishops are crying
and appealing that Anglicans in Enugu
state will not tolerate marginalisation
and should be giving the position of
deputy governor of the state. For the
position of governor and deputy
governor to be Catholic/Catholic will
not be acceptable to us. In the Federal
level, people are not happy with
Christian/Christian ticket, hence the
president has taken a very good stand
to return as President and pick a
Moslem as his running mate. Why
should Enugu State, therefore,
nominate a Roman Catholic
governorship candidate who we are not
against and wanting again to nominate
a Roman Catholic as the running
mate? We Anglicans say no to this kind
of arrangement. We are not in
minority in Enugu state and we totally
reject that intention and are warning
that if they want peace to reign in this
state and for them to enjoy our
cooperation, it should not be Roman
Catholic/ Roman Catholic ticket”the
bishops said.
The Bishops went further to say that
“Former Governor of the State,
Chimaroke Nnamani who served from
1999 to 2007 is a Methodist. He picked
Okechukwu Itanyi, a Catholic as his
Deputy. Nnamani handed over to
Sullivan Chime who is Roman Catholic.
Sullivan chose Sunday Onyebuchi, a
Methodist or so, not an Anglican as
Deputy. As they are going out, all those
who want to become governor are
Catholics and in the PDP, they are
plotting to make their running mate a
Catholic. We are saying give us an
Anglican Deputy, otherwise you are
looking for our trouble".

So these people cannot learn from papa Adeboye and not meddle with politics? We're suppose to sit and keep praying for God to come down and install His leaders to change our nation na, it has been working all these years.

This is exactly the consequence we the Igbos will reap for slaying competence, meritocracy and most importantly, germane ISSUES in the altar of religion(christians versus muslims) all in a bid to return jonathan. The evil of religious sycophancy is already here with us. The sooner we start strategising to accomodate all interest or return to the days of merit and healthy competition devoid of religious sentiments, the better for us. The result of selfish enlightenment is that it wil definitely trikle down to the smallest unit of the society. Udo diri unu

Nigerians need to stop with this nonsense. Before it was Obasanjo telling APC chose a christian to be Buhari's running mate. Then there's Buhari himself selecting "pastors" each time he runs as an apparent attempt to counter the PDP's "Muslim fanatic" smear campaign. There's CAN and their many shenanigans. There's zoning between Christians and Muslims in Kaduna. Plus dozens of similar cases at lower political levels all over the country.

We all need to understand that when you become president (or governor or whatever) you are the president of everybody. You are not elected to represent just people from your village or state or religion or sect, you are elected to serve everybody. We need to keep this sectarian bullshit out of our politics. We have to demand that public servants park their religion outside when they come to work.

If you are an Anglican from Enugu, you should think about writing to your bishop and Archbishop and tell them to STFU and stop embarrassing you. One of the reasons I'm living openly as an atheist is because I refuse to allow any religious clown claiming to represent me to make any such silly statements on my behalf. I may just be one little drop of water, but I refuse to contribute to their dirty bucket.

This is not about Christians. This is about the Ibo society where there's always the "other"

If it is not the Osu, it is either the other clan, the other tribe, or the other religion. Even within the same religion you are beginning to see division.

If you really think that you don't need anybody else to "win the polls", then so are you. As long as you keep thinking that its Catholics are the ones winning, you are not different from him. Democracy is about tolerance, inclusiveness and broad-based participation. It is not just majority rule, otherwise you'll end up with 2 wolves and a sheep voting on what to eat for dinner. The governor and his vice should represent everybody in the state and not just their own narrow parochial or sectarian interests. Remember that everybody is in a minority in one way or the other.

This is why virtually all developed societies have effectively secular governments. Religion will always poison politics. The sooner we all learn, the better for us.

My God! See how men de turn religion on its head. Is that the disposition; politics in religion.
The once seen as brothers(catholic and anglican) are now at dagger-drawn. No unity anywhere again. If one christian group is against the other in igbo land, i wonder how the uniformity and unity they always claim will be achieved if they eventually realise biafra (in their fakest dream).

The south easterners need to really do a deep reflection on how their sentiments have been allowed to jettison solid reasoning.

First it was muslim muslim, now catholic catholic for how long do we do away with good people with credible credentials on the altar of where they worshipped.

The PDP has really ruined this country and religion is one silly ideology they have introduced into our political psyche.

Osun State that is more populated by Muslims once had both governor and deputy who were Christians but no one heard any uproar amongst the muslim elites.

The senate president and deputy are Christians but the Muslims aren't challenging that decision, when are we going to realize religion has nothing to do with delivering quality leadership to the people.

try to be logical sometimes . across the nation we have people in every discipline and industry who are a misfit so treat such people individually rather than become judgmental about the entire tribe of the said person.
