PhD is well recognized in Nigeria especially in public institutions. I do not know about oversea universities.

I think foreign Universities PHDs are also recognised here and u can finish earlier there unlike here that we do experience ASUU strike.

Sometimes,it the school that just make the difference, imagine someone with a Phd from Bradford UK and you have yours from a Naija Uni...

I am thinking of the one to go for.

B. A ....English (major -Literature)
M.A .... English (Language)
P.G.D... Education (English)
P.H.D... English(Language)
This PHD part has been the most trying part! Although I am not anywhere near the academic field presently, I intend to retire into it... and I have my eyes on 'Professorship'.... Igbo people call it...ö ká nmuta! Publications and stuff all the way! At the risk of sounding arrogant (though I deserve to, because education don show me pepper) Until you're a PHD holder.... your education never too done oooo.... hooohaaaa!

Oga the programme is a guided study...the programme is immuned from ASUU or NUPENG strikes. The issue of finishing on time is dependent on the student.

BA = Internatinal Relations and Foreign Policy
MA = Globalization and Conflict Management
PhD = History of International Relations and Foreign Policy ( concluded 2012)

All was done in Russia, initially as a private student but was later awarded a scholarship for masters and later PhD, there are good chances of securing scholarships for PhD, however, language barrier will be a deterring factor, hence, preference is usually given to those with sound knowledge of the language, thesis are written and defended in Russian in the presence of about 30 professors from various institutions.

My advise to any intending applicant is work as if your defense is the next day, else you ll be frustrated half way and pull out, close to 60% of students I knew never defended...some of the professors that ll be reviewing your work as you move on may be highly insensitive in their criticism, this can be highly frustrating especially when you know you have put so much hours in the library to get the work done.

Persistence is the key!!!!
