Mode Nine Disappointed At Nigeria’s Poor Hip Hop Culture – “I’m Not Hungry But I’m Not Very Comfortable”

Mode Nine is popularly regarded as one of
the pioneer and legendary rap acts in
Nigeria, but he’s disappointed that the brand
doesn’t sell.

“Music has got me fame but not fortune. The kind of song I do is hip-hop in its pure
essence and the truth is that most Nigerians
do not like i,” Mode Nine said in an interview with Punch

I can eat three times in a day; I am not
hungry but I am not as comfortable as I
would love to be. However, the book has not ended, so let’s see what happens. Music has got me more fame than fortune.”

He also revealed that he wasn’t bothered
about not receiving any nominations at the
Hip Hop World awards, saying he only wants
to make good music.

“I don’t feel bad that I was not nominated in
the Lyricist on the Roll category during this
year’s Headies because even the sun and
moon rotate the time they are meant to.
I don’t do music with awards in mind; I just try and make good albums. I don’t mind if I am not nominated again for the next Headies because I was getting tired of being
nominated for the lyricist on the roll
category year in year out. I am even happy
that I was not nominated.

Ok nice one, but to say the truth mode nine is one dope rap artist anyday anytime, his punchlines are mad buh as he has said earlier... Pure hip-hop doesn't sell well in naija, dnt knw y tho. Without you infusing a lil dance track in your hiphop "naija ppl" won't jst b interested guess its only few ppl like me that appreciates pure hiphop and rap shii....... Mode 9 #Irespect

Modenine isnt loved very much in the industry.
He has a very bad bad bad personality and that is the main reason he hasnt gone far.
Even if he isnt selling albums, if the industry got love for you, you will make some money.
You will host big shows, you will be invited for concerts as a vip guest et al.
He uses people alot.

He is just a bitter mofuka.

It's a pity mode9 does not want to accept the fact that the rap Industry has moved on from his generation which includes ruggedman, Idris Abdulkareem even sasha. You can't shine for ever. See 9ice, he accepted the bitter truth and moved on to politics, even the koko master is moving on to core business, he is fast depreciating, his popularity is what is keeping him, not his songs. Mode 9 should start up something before his name reaches zero relevancy mode...all dis talk no go feed am.

I remember when he was interviewed on phone in a radio station at Enugu. The presenter said Your fans on twitter are sending in the shout outs, they said your album is Cool. Mode 9 : Tell them to stop disturbing me with their tweets and buy my album. Lol, it was funny but I was shocked.
