There's a mistake they keep making about roads in owerri. Owerri has a very different soil from other places in Nigeria but they keep using same method other states use to make road. Owerri soil is too prone to erosion, imo state government need to understand that it will cost them more to make road. I saw new roads made my Rochas Administration, they give way damn too fast! Even the thickness of the asphalt is too small.
Those hospitals he's erecting in every LG gives me joy, I see steady progress each time I pass imo state. They are massive,i must confess, I fear for ability to maintain them later on. That's usually the issue. I hope maintenance system is part of their plan...
the road constructions I have seen are quite poor

Beautiful pictures of Owerri! Yes, road markings will complete the magic!

Is this the Wetheral by-pass that was newly completed?
What is that massive monument being built along wetheral by pass for?

I hope Rochas will give Imo an ultra modern stadium sited around Naze or owerri outskirts. Imo used to be a powerhouse in Nigeria's sports. Partly not having a truly modern sports complex is responsible for the decline of interest and sports enthusiasts.

I see indigent children unable to acquire education and I say, why not Rochas Foundation Colleges?" In pursuit of these visions, he established the Rochas Foundation College system, a FREE comprehensive secondary educational institution that offers free tuition, boarding, feeding, transportation and medical care to over three thousand (3,000) Nigerian children from less-privileged families annually.

IMO State Nigeria A better future is ahead
Why IMO State Should Re-elect Owelle Rochas Okorocha?

1) As Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha transformed the education sector by sacrificing 4 billion of his security vote to fund free education at all levels. Built state of the art schools, to record the highest school enrollment record since the creation of Imo state. Clearly, this is true leadership. A man who educates your children has no intention to use them as house-boys or house-girls in the future, he sincerely desires your children’s freedom and empowerment. This is Owelle Rochas Okorocha...

2) As Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha is the first Governor in Nigeria to pay the highest minimum wage of 20,000 Naira, although Imo State is not among the richest states in Nigeria. This singular action further demonstrates the Governor’s uncommon passion in the wellbeing of the people of Imo.

3) As Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha paid 12 years of pension arrears owed to pensioners by the previous administrations. It took a leader like Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha with conscience to reverse this ugly trend. In Owelle’s words “it is a curse in the land to owe these old men and women who have invested their lives to serve the nation to be abandoned in their old age” This is genuine leadership; Governance with human face and the fear of the creator.

These three reasons among others; including the massive road construction and other projects going on across the state; provides a mirror into the heart of this great visionary leader chosen by God at such a historic time as this. Imo must be better. Vote for Owelle Rochas Okorocha to keep Imo state moving forward. Imo state needs leaders with conscience. People like Owelle come’s once in a life time. Imo must be better.

I seem to agree with you after visiting Okigwe. Something needs to be done henceforth about the quality of some roads. I will finish my Southeast tour in Imo. Maybe Obowo, Mbano and Mbaise axis. Owerri and Orlu are good.

Fellow Imolites are highly invited to Oguta Ameshi for the carnival which starts tomorrow.

Okigwe. Dusty red earthed and hilly town. Was not impressed with the dusty and poor quality major roads. Its more developed now in terms of business.

Owerri is fine and Rochas to me is the best but he needs to focus more on road inspection. Many roads were not properly executed and I believe he might not be aware. Its better to leave some of the roads undone and share the money. Let him try and visit Okigwe area to ascertain things himself.

maybe this issue of pegging road construction to 60m per km needs to be looked into...it makes no sense to build haphazard road only for the road to nerd reconstruction two yrs later

It is ok for inner rural roads but for roads that connects communities or at a city center like Owerri road in Okigwe urban it is a mess.

Beautiful decorations at government house/rockview round about.

Also something similar at heroes' square.

I wish Rochas can invest more on street-lighting.

The quality of street lights in Owerri is poor in terms of intensity and many major roads are not lit at all or functioning.

Street lights help tremendously in terms of security and night life and invariably the economy of the state.

Imo has the highest allocation in the SE after Abia.

Enugu receives significantly less.

You are right on the street lights. Most of them produce white instead of the usual yellow lights, I have no problem with white lights infact I prefer them, but the ones Rochas uses are so dim you wonder what difference they make.

The stands are actually beautiful but the intensity is not good and they are not very functional.

I prefer the regular ones (yellow light) e.g on Musa Yaradua drive, they might not look so fanciful but at night they are bright and functional.

Exactly, you totally understand my point.

Somewhere like Uyo and Enugu has functional bright street lights that may make you forget to put on your headlamps.

I suspect the yellow light is brighter, and should be used.
Check how well lit Musa Yaradua drive is, where the yellow lights are in use.

Like WTF?
So you people endorse the new general hospital in all the local governments?
What happen to the old ones?
Imo state is still lagging behind when it comes to good hospital facility in the whole of south east yet rochas is building new ones to compliment who?
What will be the work force of the hospital?
How will they fund the hospital via modern equipments, staff salaries and give free health care treatment to pregnant women?
Hope the hospital is not going to be like a wasted building in the next coming years?
Rochas is trying but some of his project are just there to entertain those who care for the window dressing.

We should learn how to follow follow this thieving south east governors because all of them are potential criminals.undecided

Imo is the State with best streetlighting in Nigeria. Uyo has no streetlights and so is Enugu compared with Imo that most villages have streetlights. The entire Owerri has streetlights. The entire Oguta is same . Even highways are being done with streetlights.

The intensity of the lighting is low in the solar powered ones and higher in generator powered ones. I prefer solar as they are always functional even without generators and hence prevent leakage of public funds.

Charlesdonald is not true. those street lights are soo dim that you have to on your headlamp . that's why I hate solar energy light they aren't bright enough. if u can be sincere to yourself just compare the yellow ones which is powered by diesel to Solar. they should overhaul those solar panel and fix normal yellow ones which is obtainable in Enugu and PH city..

In a bid to praise Rochas you make ridiculous statements.

You don't have to praise blindly, especially facts that are easily verifiable.

I am sure the person you sing praises for sometimes wonder the rationale behind it.

Just imagine saying Uyo and Enugu have no street lights just to make the dim "rechargeable" like lights Rochas put up look good.

Whatever I write is what I know and devoid of sentiments. Uyo neither has roads nor streetlights except along few major roads. Enugu is even better than Uyo but none of them has as much as Owerri which every street has streetlights.

Solar powered streetlights are not as bright as generator ones just like your inverters dont carry heavy loads. It is wiser and functions more regularly.
