This is why you should read your history to find out that..there is nothing new in what this guy has written. It is not a new discovery and you have to be politically illiterate to even be moved by it. In the 80s when we were in university every Nigerian student was politically aware now they only become aware when people of their tribe become victims of deep rooted political forces brewing under the surface which TH y refuse to notice.

Abiola too won an election free and fair and was opposed by military officers of the north and it was not that they were smarter. The major problem with southern Nigeria is the lack of ideals and a concentration on materialism and short term gain and internal competition. The northern tribes are the most idealistic of all the tribes and it is not about religion, I have worked with Christian Hausas and even some rare Christian Fulanis. My conclusion ins no matter how much you want to deceive yourself about your education advantages over the north ,the nor(th has better mentality than southerners. You get the feeling that they are more easily motivated by something more than the self, more than personal monetary gain, more of ideals, more of religion, more of ideology, more of domination by their way of life .........that is their great strength. It is no surprise that they make good terrorists and suicide bombers. The Hausa Fulani man whose only property is the radio is not more intelligent than his landlord he only has a higher mentality than the Yoruba boss slaving away in some office telling himself that HIS life is better that the Maiguard who is politically more aware because h is tracking issue and networking with his people.

The Ibo Man in particular does not understand the idealistic promptings of political participation. He does not understand it yet that it is not a pursuit of power to gain money, it is a pursuit of power to make your ideology and way of life dominant over another people. This is why most Ibos are now so scared of the emerging linkages between politics and religion. MUst brother, money dos not make the world go round, it is just a tool to get what you want, to make the world do your wish and indeed some very intelligent people without good mentality can bought two for one kobo.
In order to solve our political problem, we have to forget tribes completely and destroy the linkage between money and politics. Let us have parties based on ideologies. I don't even mind religion based parties as long as there is no violence and forceful conversions. There are sophisticated religion based parties in India, Turkey, Israel and even in the US, the republican party has an influential fundamentalist Christian wing. When we have parties based on ideals then people of the right mentality get voted into office and inspire younger ones to develop same qualities.

That is the unfortunate reason why voting for a Buhari might be better than Jonathan, he has an ideology.
Jonathan is a shallow plant of some business men in the office of president and in most things he is in over his head because he does not know what he is doing. When I started observing him and listening to his interviews, I told people ''this man is empty but he will develop the Niger Delta'', this was because the lack of orientation was glaring and I just thought such people were of the builder type of leader. You won't believe my surprise that the Niger Delta is still the way it was and only militants are smiling. Now, that is the low mentality we are talking about.

Jonathan has not articulated a national vision that unifies Nigeria because he is not capable of that at all. The transformation agenda is ridiculous if it is to build overpriced bridges and airports with borrowed money whilst a few people steal the national budget. What is Jonathan's socio political direction for Nigeria?, how does he define our essence?, What is the country about?, What is our foreign policy?..What are your dos and Don'ts in national life.

Note: This article was not developed to ascribe to the entire Northern Nigeria the selfish antics and machination of a few individuals who belong to the region. It would be unfair to do that. Also, this article was developed not with the intention of causing incitement...
1. An average Northerner acquires a cheap transistor radio-set in order to gain political awareness
from broadcasting structures such as BBC (Hausa Service),Radio Nigeria, etc. This practice has made the region the most politically-aware region in Nigeria. On the hand, an average Southerner, typically, acquires expensive Smartphones equipped with FM radio receiving capability. Instead, they would rather listen to inane songs like “Your Waist”, “Skelewu”,“Ginger Your Swagger”, “NoGede”, etc.
2. Unlike the South, the North understands the importance of numbers in politics. This is why, by all strategic means necessary, the North ensures that they have a larger representation at the National Assembly.
3. Northerners don’t shout, scream, vent and speak “big grammar” to prove that they are politically intelligent on political programmes on TV and radio. Instead, they shout, scream, vent, kick, punch, taekwondo, etc on the floor of the National Assembly to promote a cause that is in their favor. The reverse is the case for the Southerners.
4. Southern graduates/job seekers consider the public sector (government institutions) an unfashionable place for employment.Meanwhile, the Northerners massively recruit and entrench themselves into the public sector and manipulate themselves up the ranks. While all these are going on, their southern brothers and sisters spend years languishing in the labour market for the elusive jobs in blue chip organizations. Yet, Southerners complain of marginalization in the public sector.
5. For some weird reasons, the South is always frightened when the North make political pronouncements. Even weirder - for some inexplicable reasons, Senators and House of Representative members from the South appear to be too timid to oppose their northern counterparts during legislative sessions.
6. According to the gospel of the North - the Northerners were born to rule. That is, leadership (of Nigeria) is their exclusive preserve. By extension, the Southerners were born to be led! Interestingly, certain actions of some Southerners support this belief.
7. The North has more (unrated) billionaires(in Dollars) than any region in Nigeria. For instance, a certain Alhaji Mai Deribe (an oil well licensee)would certainly laugh each time Forbes releases its ratings and his name is not listed.
8. The North doesn’t produce crude oil, but the Northern Senators had the temerity to oppose the 10% host community funds. The Southern legislators find nothing wrong in that, so long as it doesn’t affect their “constituency allowances”.

10. The North have ruled the country legally(democratically) and illegally (military) for 37 out of the 53 years. The South is very comfortable with this inequality.
11. The North is the chief proponent of the "quota system” and “federal character” principle – a system that was crafted to sacrifice merit on the altar of “national oneness”. In simple terms, even the most unqualified gets a slot in sensitive national projects.
12. Northern law-makers at the National Assembly- typically - rally amongst themselves to promote legislations that favors their region (e.g. pedophilic laws). Southern law-makers typically rally amongst themselves to promote legislations that will increase their salaries and constituency allowances.
13. To the Northerners - the census exercise is not just a statistical evaluation exercise. Instead, it is considered a key political exercise. Meanwhile, the Southern folks see census exercise as a temporal job opportunity for its largely unemployed undergraduates. In the words of Chief Festus Odimegwu (recently resigned Chairman of National Population Commission) “There has been no credible census in the country since 1816 because of manipulations”, Punch Newspaper, 18 October 2013.
14. When it comes to regional unity – religion, politics and language are the common uniting factor for the North. Southerners(especially the South-Easterners) are never united for any course. (Oh, well, Soccer sometimes offers some measure of unity among the Southerners!).
15. The North is the region with the least education, least resources, least development and pervasive poverty – yet, they have ruled Nigeria for 37 years out of the nation’s 53 years of independence.
16. Only the North understands the logic behind establishing a national refinery (the Kaduna refinery) thousands of kilometers away from the point of extraction of crude oil.
17. When it concerns the north, a new standard is always invented. For else, how does one explain how Sani Abacha – a near-midget –escaping the “standard height” rule of the military. Even, rising to be president.

Opposition to privatization is principally to prevent the likely disengagement of their largely unqualified members. (BTW, till date, some people still earn salaries of close to N1m monthly from the comatose NITEL. Now guess what region most of these people are from? Note: This fact is verifiable.)
24. The South produces the crude oil (Nigeria’s economic mainstay). However, amongst the regions, the North owns majority of the oil blocks, oil prospecting (OPL) and oil mining (OML) licenses.
25. Northern leaders (political and religious)have never come out, unanimously, to publicly condemn the menace of Boko Haram. Southern leaders (political and religious) that publicly condemn the methods of Boko Haram attract criticisms and are described as self-seeking or seeking attention/relevance.

The SE and SW are believing the old mantra of "one Nigeria" even when all evidences point to the fact that the North believes in "Born to rule".
For instance, Buhari has made a false declaration to INEC that his credentials are with military secretary board which is very obvious that Buhari is lying. Yet the same SE and SW believe nothing is wrong with the lie.

Okay I've broken down the key points that pretty much sums up how wrong the OP is in this matter.

Well obviously because our colonial master thought the north would be the most competent in handling this country in the future. Which they were wrong, look at the state of the north, the least developed and the most impoverished, why does the OP assume this is even debatable, the north are dying because God is not blessing that region and they greatly rely on the south.

One other point is how come Nigeria is socially and politically split between the north and south even with the large diversity in ethnic group.
Easy answer, the predominant religious faction in that region. A Muslim north and a Christian south. I would pick the south any day just for that, God forbid I live in a sharia region anytime soon. Let boko haram deal with their north.

The bonus point has been simplified, because the most important reason why it was necessary to bring the capital to Abuja from lagos, was to even the regional field, sure it's closer to the north but as well as the igbo east.

Look at Mr aliko dangote, he doesn't have to work in the public sector to become the richest man in Africa. He is a northerner that made economic strength a weapon to influence policies brought up by the Government.

My brother u are right, i conducted 2006 census in d north, where i did mine, their village heads brought goats n d rest of them to count as human beings, when we asked them why? their reply to us was, incase if d want to give us local government area i.e LGA, since high population n landmass is a criteria in creating LGA.
