Hi Colleagues!

I studied Estate Management in FUT Minna and I am a fairly experienced facilities/property manager. I have some work experience in Nigeria and in the UK. However, the reason I have made a post here is to discuss:

1. The challenges of securing work in the UK compared to Nigeria
2. The difference in the practice of Facilities Management (FM) in both regions
3. Why Nigerians are underrated in the UK despite experience and qualifications.

Personally, I find that FM practice in the UK is more advanced than in Nigeria as we embraced it later than they did in the UK, but work description on a lot of occasions are essentially the same, depending on your specialization. I have lived in the UK a few years, been certified by the British Institute of Facilities Management and have an MBA from a UK university, despite 10 years experience (in Nigeria & UK together) I have not been considered good enough for positions I would be overqualified for back in Nigeria. So my question is why are we underrated and how can this be tackled?

P.S: I am now strongly considering a return to Nigeria as soon as I get a job offer.

Cheers everyone! Thanks for your contribution.
