It was a beautiful saturday afternoon. I was travelling from Kano to Abuja through a commercial vehicle together with some other passengers. When we arrived at a check-point along Kano-Kaduna express road, we are intercepted by an officer of the Nigeria Immigration. He commanded all the male passengers to step down from the vehicle. We obeyed and was led to the other side of the road where we were handed over to another officer.

The officer told all of us to squat down; for no reason. All the passengers obliged but I refused and was about to protest before he shouted at me; I didnt know when I join the others. I actually felt humiliated like a common criminal. I figure it was wise to yield considering the fact that I was on the highway, in middle of no-where and helplessly defenceless.

Afterward, we were told to bring out our National I.D or drivers licence. Those that do not have were forced to pay N200 or threatened with 5 hours of detention. I Identified myself and was released.

What is really annoying with their operations is that their mission out there is to forcefully extort money from travellers in the name of identifying and arresting illegal immigrant. Of cause, it is obvious that a dangerous illegal immigrant can comfortably cruise around the country just by flinging N200 to those shamless uniform men.

I like to use this medium to call on the attention of the appropraite authority on the day-light robbery perpetuated by men of the Nigeria Immigration. Tax payers fund should not be wasted in paying the salaries of some corrupt individualss that are out there causing inconviniency to same tax-payers on the road. If they don't have any meaningful task to do, I humbly suggests that they should layed off or better still, deploy to Maiduguri where their energy and guns would be usefull.

D nigeria way, where illegal become legal. Atleast their oga @ d top we knw they are doing such na. But why is it that 90 percent of nigeria problem is north, boko boys, suicide bombers, child marriage, beggars. To mention few
.
Yet the same northerner wants to vote their fellow northener into office the office of a president.. And they're crying out for a change!.
,
They make things difficult for themselves and then push the blames to GEJ governance!

That was how last three weeks one useless low rank immigrations staff insisted I must give him 500 on my return from cotonou at seme, I just yelled at him that and told him he has no power to stop any Nigerian from entering his country it reached a level where another staff came and told me to go and stop embarrassing them.

You we need to stand your ground when you know you have done no wrong

We should always try to get their names and I'd number ,video or pictures so that we can embarrass them on social media, may be if we keep exposing them the government will put a stop to this corruption

My bros u can stand ur ground...Good!! But not wen d other party is holding a gun in a deserted place. Anytin goes in Naija. Fight back only wen u've gathered enuf crowd.

Exactly.....when our colonial masters lay off powers.
They invoke corruption into our minds...
.
That has been the problem...
People seeking for power with all mights!
Using the word "change" when they won't even be able to change their thoughts towards helping the country...

Yeah this is happening in 2014. Imagine how much immigration will charge in 2018. Perhaps N20,000. Sorry but I got to say, all those suppporting GEJ should never complain about this country. The more we accept corrupt leadership, it will affects us and our children. Lets pray we do not be victims of the gore side of things. What we need in Nigeria is change.

Ofcourse he's corrupt!

My grandfather used to say that...whatever a man says, is mostly likely to be his fears!
For instance...if u have a fight with ur neighbor and after the fight you say to him... "Go to police, I have uncles who are policemen" then that is ur fear.. If u say to ur neighbor "if u like go and bring boys to lay ambush..I'll pass and nothing will happened" then that is ur fear...
.
Now...Buhari is preaching about "change"
I know he's actually coming to change everything...
But not to favor the non-muslims!
.
He'll also embezzle the country's money....
.
As far as Nigeria is concern and as far as this country is naturally rich... Nobody will take the seat of a president and won't steal from the Nigeria's pot of gold... Buhari isn't an exception!

Its what we face here in Maiduguri daily. They do not even accept drivers licence, only national ID, students ID, and sometimes employment ID. Else, you drop cash (between 300 and 500 naira. One once rejected my staff ID of a reputable bank that even pays his monthly salaries as I got to find out. Its really a pathetic situation we find ourselves in this country.
Re: My Ordeal With Nigeria Immigration Officers by Richy4(m): 10:27am On Dec 30, 2014
I did not realize there are illegal immigrants in Nigeria.
For the love of God we got 120 languages, no meaningful ID. If someone speaks Zulu to them and claim it is a Nigerian language how will they know?
