"Invasion 1897" of Lancelot Imasuen should be among the top 3. The only Nollywood epic of 2014. "Invasion 1897" is an epic film based on the invasion of the Benin Kingdom by the British Empire in 1897 and looting the priceless ancient artifacts of the Benin kingdom, including the famous commemorative head and pendant of ivory mask representing Queen Idia (from court of Benin, 16th century) who was the mother of Esigie, the Oba of Benin who ruled from 1504 to 1550. The commemorative head is at the British Museum, while the pendant is at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, USA. Runtime: 2 hr 0 min Rated: R 18 Genre: Drama

Sorry we don't waste our time with rubbish movies over here. I stick to Yoruba movies when I have time to waste ........ for the sole purpose of rekindling my Yoruba language skills. And they have better plot. |

1) October 1 - This is the best Film I watched this year! it was so interesting! I felt the soul of the movie (AMENNN!!!) I loved Sadiq Daba acting especially his accent whenever he was saying Afonja! The prince and his girlfriend were a perfect match - cute, same skin tone, cool, Shy girl - bold cool guy Perfertooo!!! I also enjoyed the suspense! When the DVD is out, I'll be the 1st to get it, then I'll watch it every week! 2) Half of a yellow sun - honestly, at 1st I was quite disappointed with the film, because I've read the book and I expected the film to be perfect like the book, but when I watched it again, I realised that it was a great film - the conversations, acting, sound, visuals - Great! 3) Being Mrs Elliot - errmm.. this was the 1st film I watched in a cinema, so it's special! Apart from that, it was also great! even coupled with the fact that its her 1st movie! Okon mess for inside car ![]() ![]() ![]() 4) 30 days in Atlanta - it was fun sha, but I'm a person who is highly critical of comedy - in other words, it wasn't all that funny, I had to force laughter sometimes so that other people sitting near me won't think I'm a sadist ![]() Honestly most if the jokes were stale to me!5) the contract - this film was damn funny and quite educational because I learnt that a virgin can get pregnant! that Yvonne gather oh ![]() |

Ok, this write-up is rather odd, informative but still very odd. The OP seemed to be trying to justify why they picked their choices by pointing out why they shouldn't have...Anywho, I'll definitely be watching the rom-coms on the list. To be honest, I only started re-watching Nollywood films thanks to stumbling on the ad for Flower Girl (which coincidentally stars Blossom) & I kinda went crazy for it. |

If you stopped watching nollywood a few years ago, you will hardly recognise the indusry now. I am soooooo impressed with the films I have watched of late. Even if they are not perfect. I enjoyed...... Secret Room, staring UC Okeje (major crush...lol) and Lilian Esoro. FANTASTIC FILM, unlike any nollywood film I have seen. Apaye was good as was flower girl. Murder at Palm Suites was good. For comedy....Dumebi |

). This year had the release of many highly anticipated films to keep us glued to the screens - just that, a huge number of them were disappointing. What we can't deny however is the fact that, a lot of films were released to the cinemas this year (for the first time, there's no month I opened a cinema's website and atleast 3 or 4 Nollywood films were not showing....infact, it significantly increased towards the end of the year). Same way, Nollywood had the lowest number of video/idumota releases this year (thanks to pirates wey don helep us spoil their marketu finish! *apologies to the professional filmmakers out there that this piracy issue affects, but maybe its just God's way of cleansing the film industry
*). Personally, I wasn't that impressed with most Nollywood films I watched this year; not because they were worse than the ones I watched last year (infact, they improved significantly), but because the movies I watched last year made my expectations for the coming years to be raised abnormally. Back to business of the day, here are the top 10 Nollywood films I watched this year, I also considered some factors in my ranking like critical reception. Enjoy! And don't forget to add yours
:
. BTW, it's not only Desmond, Uti has also grown as an actor! It's kinda cool to see Biola Segun Williams in a different role, where she doesn't have to speak with that her accent. Overall, Kudos to everyone involved!
