You must NOT do or say anything during your interview to suggest that you are thinking of overstaying!
If during your study you gain a position, or offer, with a US company and they sponsor you then this is not an overstay.
Do NOT try to be over clever with the VO! Answer clearly and simply. ( bigfrancis21: is not correct.)
Do not try to outsmart them.
It will end in tears.

sirRiddy:
But I thought we are not supposed to hint that we would be staying back after graduation?

seangy4konji:
But does stating this to a consular not give an incite that you are not willing to come home after the studies as you intend staying back and looking for a job and immigrate??

There's one thing you guys don't know about the visa interview process. You think telling them you're returning to Nigeria gets you the visa? You think they don't know that YOU ARE NOT COMING BACK to Nigeria even if you prove you are? You think they don't have the statistics of those who actually returned after their studies yet they open their office everyday and keep doling out visas?

If you still don't know this by now, you need to. Once you sound smart/speak intelligently/are intelligent (with good grades) at the interview, the VO will definitely grant you your visa, because you have potential to contribute positively to their economy. Why shouldn't they grant you your visa? On the other hand, if you're not so smart, well...that's when all that hurdle about ties to your home country becomes more apparent.

@McFarlin...the reasons I mentioned, in the first place, are more of personal reasons to gravitate towards a state of one's choice. You would always want to go to the area/state with the best options for your line of career. You don't necessarily have to mention the reasons at the interview if you don't want to.

Hi everyone! Happy new year. Glad we're here now, we'll see more years to come, amen. Got to the US safe and sound but I still need your urgent advice. Got admission to Murray State University but I have plans of changing school to Bowling Green or Ohio State University. Please do I need to resume with Murray first for a semester before I change school. I feel it's going to be kind of a waste of money and time. Any advice ? Thanks

To transfer you'll need to get admissions (and I20s) from both the school you're transferring from and the one you're transferring to. Upon arrival in the US, you show up at the school you're transferring to, telling them you intend to transfer to the school but got admission from another school (the one you got your visa with). The second school will contact the first school and have them release/transfer your SEVIS records to them (the second school). Entire process takes about 5 days. You'll also need to do this before the resumption date of any of those schools.

Do you have an admit + I20 from the schools you mentioned you intend transferring to? If you don't yet, you might have to spend a semester in the current school before being able to transfer next semester.

Thanks boss, plan changed to fall 2016, so I'll write GRE Oct/Nov to meet up with funding & application deadlines of schs. U r an inspiration bro, keep d flag flying.
Since u have time my advice would be to sit for it sooner (like within march and may) to give u a little wiggle room in case you want to retake the exam and possibly using Oct/November to focus on other important areas of your apps. By December 1 2015 all your apps should have been sealed and delivered if you are dead set on getting funding.

Thanks for d insight, I'll take a leave to write it around May/June. I hope d score reports would still be valid for d fall admission, incase there wouldn't be need for a re-sit. Trust u to acclimatize n prosper bro.

like slimmy said, best thing is to start afresh. Grades stick to your transcript forever and I'm not sure u will like to come here and see others grabbing A's while you have B's in your result. so save yourself the stress

Do not get complicated, just state that you have defered admission.
But only one week is very little time to get visa and ticket organised!
You may have to get your school to defere admission untill autumn.
Do not try travelling after the joining date that your school gave you, it risks rejection at P.O.E.

defer -- hmm maybe(you can get your ticket same day after visa issuance, if you have your money)
Bolded part --- not true
Technically... With a late arrival letter... you are good to go.
Words from a DSO states you can still come in within 30days of the last day listed on your i-20.(but a week or 2 is better, all heads are not the same.)

My bro, arrived 2 weeks late.

@omotolaboo, Please go ahead! wink

You wrong, if he can evaluate his Nigeria ND, some classes will be waived for him and it will not reflect in his USA gpa, it will save money and time. I have someone who did that
