Will Nairaland Still Be Open If Buhari Was President?

He promulgated Decree No 4 of 1984  that restricted Press freedom and imposed hefty jail terms on violators whose opinion  were considered injurious to his government , he never tolerated descent under any guise!

Fela was at the receiving End of his anger for singing about selective justice and corruption among the northern elite,

My Question is Simple If Buhari was president will Nairaland be standing today?

Nairalanders are wonderful they can turn a simple (innocent) picture, into something hilariously spectacular

The Freedom on this Forum is almost infinite but till date No Nigerian is in Jail or gone into Exile for expressing his Views or holding an Opinion !

Will This Have been Possible Under A Buhari Presidency?

You must also note that we are now operating on a system of Government(Democratic system of Government) different from the one Buhari first Headed(Millitary system of Government.)

Dude , its appears that you derive happiness in slandering GMB ..
Let this be clear to you, GMB wants to lead as a democratic president not as a military head of state.
All actions will be guided by Nigeria constitution.

The existence of Nairaland lies on Seun not on anyone else. Besides,I see better and more unbaised forums springing up when Buhari becomes our president. More access to freedom of expression will be welcomed through online social forums.

Nairaland has come to stay. Infact, Nairaland will be an aid as it will complement GMB's transparency policy. The man has shown he has nothing to hide. Only those with skeleton's in their closet fear Buhari presidency. SAI Nairaland. SAI Buhari. Long Live The Federal Republic of Nigeria.

God forbid buhari being the president. Tufia... By the way OP, u should be more concerned if Nigeria would still exist because we are wondering if it's agriculture or pyramids he would use in ruling Nigeria.

Definitely not oil revenue. Definitely not... U heard it first from me.

Amidst the hues and cries ubiquitous all over the place, I personally see this forthcoming election as a veritable trial of civil and press liberties.

Jonathan has laid the groundwork for a subsisting democratic culture that has never been seen in the whole of Africa.

The whole interest this election is generating is principally amenable to Jonathan's resolve to desist from gagging freedom of speech. I doubt if any other man can be this liberal.

Let us not lose the essence of our march to nationhood by being susceptible to utopian, impractical and quick-fix ideas.

To put the Nigerian project on a sound footing will certainly need time, circumspection and perseverance. Anyone saying otherwise is speaking tongue in cheek and should not be taken serious.

NO NO NO, I hope you know meaning of bokoharam, If you do, you suppose to know every thing educational in this country will shut down If Buhari becomes presdo. Nairaland may exist but it would be renamed to Almajiri-land. If you just post any rubbish, they will just send one of their boys to bomb you.

It is about the man and not the system.
There is no rule that says there mustn't be freedom of speech in a military system, Buhari created that decree specially for himself, Babangida removed it when he took over. Buhari can sponsor an act or whatever in a democratic setting too.
So it is about the will of the person and not the system.

with such supremacy of power he took away the freedom of the press, which was a very effectual tool in criticising the activities of govt. A medium which was by that time a major means public opinion could easily be communicated to the govt... If afta knowing this, doesn't dat define to a large degree the kind of man he is... Or do u still need a soothsayer to tell u dat dis man is a socio-political bully, some1 who disregards d basic things that ensure civility in a state....

You are just making assumptions, what has Buhari learnt?
He can still get what he wants in a democracy without the opinion of the masses. If he could get the military council together to set a decree then, he can get a few senators together to do the same here.
Re: Will Nairaland Still Be Open If Buhari Was President? by wheesin(m): 1:02pm On Jan 03, 2015
Nairaland would not exist, not because of buhari no ! but because of seun and his autocratic way of ruling us....we need a mighty coup plan to remove him and his minions called mods angry

a few senators you said, so what happens to the rest senators? Will they just sit and watch because they are have dumb head. Certainly not.
Like i said opinions of the people still counts, that was proven during the period of fuel subsidy where the NLC fought for thd masses.
Buhari will not be so dumb to start doing anything that will paint him black when he gets to power.
