Soyabean is a leguminous crop which means it can be planted on any land. Every location will be suitable but not waterlogged area.
It fixes back nitrogen into the soil and therefore does not require fertilizer.
Birds love picking it up immediately after planting before germination. You need to fi,d a way to wade them off.

Source for good seed from reputable seed companies. Seed is very important in planting soyabeans.
Its usually planted when the rain is about stopping. Most cases from July.

Either use scarecrow or you replace the missing ones after germination

Buy your seed from National Seed Council and register with them. They will monitor your farm and buy back from you at a very good price
Yield varies depending on farm management, weather conditions, pest and diseases.
Expected yield starts from 1 to 7 tonnes per hectare based on the mentioned factors

I am in the same condition as you, just want to be sure it's the right thing while taking the right steps to achieve it. In addition, it's seasonal so i'm not in a rush on it. From the little info i have, it comes just after rainy season which is still some months away. I'm also considering how to achieve all year round production.

Holla me if you have any info regarding this.

National seed council office is on iwo road- iyana church axis, a couple of minutes drive after disenguf. It's on the left hand side and disenguf is on the right.

After that is the junction on the right that leads to CAC LION OF JUDAH. And that is iyana church bus stop gaan gaan.

Merci,

Re: Soybean Plantation Setup: Critical Things To Consider by boluwajokosegun: 8:43pm On Jan 02, 2016
I planted last year but the yield was very low because of insufficient rain.

Do you know why it is seasonal

Soya beans can stay for more than a year without preservatives the major enemy when stored is rats
The value keep increasing as from the day you harvest until new harvest is out

Re: Soybean Plantation Setup: Critical Things To Consider by Bitos: 9:53pm On Jan 02, 2016
From the little research i made on it earlier, it's seasonal because soybeans do not need much rain. It is usually planted towards the end of the rainy season. I want to believe you can continue planting in the dry season if proper irrigation can be done. For rainy season, greenhouse will most likely be the best option but we all know it's expensive to construct in this part of the world.

I stand to be corrected in any of the above coz i'm still learning and i ain't practical farmer in this type of crop.

My Oga, I like you sir.
You get mouth plenty. I envy that. #please I mean no insult#
As much as I consult for soybeans farming, I have a lot of reservations.
The last I deal with burnt my hands(when I mean my hands, I mean my investors money). #irrespective of my late arrival in the project, I share more grief with the investors when I was not supposed to.

I am not afraid to bare my failures because I know in it lies the greatest strength to be used.

I will not mention names but the seed was top notch from one of the best research institute in Nigeria. #if you are good with syllogism, you will be able to pin point my wiity directions#.

The plants gave wonderful foliage and good nodulation. Dried pods dint dehiscent(split open and scatter seeds) but 1hectare gave 500kg thereabout as against the expected 1- 2 tonnes per hectare.

I am a very practical person and I don't condemn nor condole anyone. I am just neutral.

My brother, please be careful with consulting so that we all laugh last.

God bless your hustle,

Sincerely,

Greetings to my sister @ Jethro2. I salute ooh

If you plant Soybeans, market can NEVER be a problem in Nigeria. Also insect do not affect Soybeans aft harvest so you can't be rushed to sell immediately after harvest

Re: Soybean Plantation Setup: Critical Things To Consider by boluwajokosegun: 12:45pm On Jan 05, 2016
Thanks @unbeatable, l appreciate your concern, we keep learning every day which in turn results to perfection.
Remember for farmers in Oyo State rain was not on our side last year and so soybean is a crop that MUST be well looked at all the farming parameters before planting.
There is a particular part of Oyo State where soybean always do we but can you believe that because of insufficient rain last year there was poor harvest. Our prayers is that God will bless us with favorable weather this year besides we are looking in irrigation.

Note that l am not claiming to be the best. God is the Best & all knowing God but we can learn from our or other people mistakes.

Thanks
