If Europe wants Palestine as a state, they shouldn't wait for the the UNSC, they shouldn't just allow Palestine to establish embassies on their territory, have embassies in Gaza and the west bank, recognize Palestinian passports, and the government (Hamas and the PLO), arrange student exchange programs with Palestine schools, allow it to join the IMF and other international institution etc

They were well aware that there would be a veto so if they are serious they should implement those things without the UNSC. Afterall, Kosovo enjoy all those rights and they are not a member of the UN because of a possible Russia and China veto

That would put Pressure on Israel just like Serbia is about to give up Kosovo in return for an EU membership (still unlikely thou)

All I needed was just one extra vote at the UN assembly, and it would've gone through. And I think they were depending on Nigeria, till the country abstained at the very last minute - shameful. I didn't even know the UK abstained - that's embarrassing especially for the architect of the crisis, and all the big talks of late coming out of Downing Street, and the EU. In as much as the Jews are also strong in UK politics, I think US influence must have played a role in that. Australia is the other shocking one. I still can't believe Abbott voted against it with the US, as the only two countries who were outrightly against it. Shocking from a country that never wanted the UN seat in the first place.

Also, perhaps, it has to do with the inclusion of the 1967 borders, in the draft. But nevertheless, they should at least give them recognition, and a start-up to a nation-state, pending when all the talks are concluded.

The Kosovo issue had more to do with interests and sphere of influence though. They created the country themselves, and you sure know that before they intervened to carve out the country, they had already planned everything. Kosovo was a US creation, with the UK playing dog - not really an EU thing.

UK, Lithuania, Nigeria, Korea and Rwanda abstained
US, Australia voted against it.
France, China, Russia, Luxembourg , Argentina, Chad, Chile and Jordan voted for it.

The abstention saves the US from using the veto even thou they voted no. The plan all along. they save face among the Arabs and still helped Israel. the 5 countries that abstained were useful 1diots.
Palestine will apply for to join other international bodies with European help hopefully.

The US didn't save face - it voted no, and that's telling. There's outrage about Australia doing the same thing, by Aussies. It seems Aussies aren't happy with Abbott's choice. As for Nigeria, another dumb decision in international politics again. Voting yes would've shown neutrality. However, with abstaining - that shows the country cowered under US and Israeli influence, and that's shameful. The UK's decision is embarrassing, since France voted for it, and the EU supported it. It shows the US still controls the UK's foreign policy, despite all the lies out there.

They need the UN draft to pass at UNSC to at least get recognition. Even if the US vetoed the final five-member security council vote, they would've at least passed this stage. Nigeria messed up at the last minute.

The diplomatic influence of the US is huge . Jonathan stands no chance. It is easy to criticize that decision but he had little choice. If the UK can stay away, who the hell is Nigeria?

The thing is that resolution wasn't adopted because it didn't get enough required votes. It is better on paper for the US that way. Instead of voiding it with a Veto (which would have happened had Nigeria voted Yes), That way they can tell the Arabs that well, Even without our Veto the resolution failed because it didn't have enough support.

If Nigeria had voted yes and the US had to use the Veto, that is a direct confrontation with the US which Jonathan would try to avoid because he has an election in few months. A NO vote would be over reaching and looks like outright betrayal. the only thing to do is to abstain. Nigeria is still a light weight. The biggest mistake is not waiting till next year and hope that there would be at least 2 francophone seats in the Africa group. that way, France can lean on them.

And that was basically cos it changed its mind at the very last minute/

The UK is different kettle of fish entirely due to the Anglo-American link a la special friendship, and Israeli influence out here. With Nigeria playing the spoiler. So, what's the point of having AU (African Union) when the countries on the continent can't even speak with one voice? - very troubling.

Anyway, I still don't know why Russia always vote against Israel since Russian(Kazan) Jews are deep into everything Israeli. A few of the top folks running the Netanyahu's government are Russian(Kazan) Jews. Why is that?
