Honestly, Igbo's are hard working people with strong business acumen!
However, it's ridiculous and laughable to hear when igbo's say LAGOS IS NO MAN'S LAND!

if this is true, then i wonder why they pay d YORUBA OMO-ONILEs for every land the buy here in lagos!

Chai! .... dia ris Goduuuooooooo

Ask the APC lagos governor candidate why he has to dress like Igbo man to meet the igbo community to vote for him, has he gone to see any other tribe? hell no.... don't play with igbo population in lagos, u will lose election if they don't back you

Nice post....but dat still won't make me like dem
Igbo people are so so desperate for money..80% is ritual,15% prostitution and making fake things just 5% is clean money from hardwork

And they have some stupid cultures dat should not be heard of..maybe because most of them are not literate...they nearly killed my sis when she got married to an igbo guy..

They got married 2007 but the guy didn't take her home even after 4 kids,my sis should av suspected that there must be something wrong with his family..but she was thinking maybe he is "akudaya"..so she pestered him to take her home..when they got to the place she was welcomed grandly..they had a great feast for her and her kids..then they gave her money to go and buy something from the market, when she got there she started pricing things she wanted to buy..as an ijebu woman she can price ehn,she got to a place and just spoke her language she said (urun ma won bewe)things are costly here oo ..dat was when an ijebu lady dat came to sell things there asked her what she was doing there dat there is a mark on her and the mark is given to any lady they want 2 kill. she explained everything to her and the lady helped her escape...she got a divorce when the guy came back with just 2kids

Then he explained everything to her,dat it is their culture(can u imagine what kind of stupid culture is dat)..dats y he didn't want 2 take her home

Av never heard a good story about igbos, only bad and scary ones,

Igbos ehn I dislike them like shit,I hardly make friends with them, they scare me..they can do anything 4 money
why would they kill her??and which part of Igbo does that cos am just hearing it for the first time??

The NSIBIDI was an ancient system of writing that was developed by the igbos before the slave era. The captured slaves took the practise to the southern American islands and taught it to their children. some of them still know the letters. Early this year, I was at the Enugu branch of the musuem of National Unity when a gentleman from Trinidad and Tobago came to researched about the Nsibidi system of writing. Right there in front of me, he started reading the letters from an ancient goat skin patchment and quickly pronounced the age long mantra known all over the land. 'Egbe belu, ugo belu ' meaning 'live and let live. I'm proud of my rich cultural heritage.

There is nothing educative nor thought provoking in the write up. It's just a plain write up that portrays a good side if the Igbos. This is the kind of piece you write for a JSS 3 student to read. You ask:
What about igbo culture? You answer: it is rich; one of the most attractive in the world. You ask, what about igbo food? You answer: it's one of the best in the world...blah blah blah...what's new or exceptional in that?
Why not ask: What's the origin of igbo's shrewdness in business or why do people think the igbos are too crooked to transact with? That's thought provoking.
Or ask, why do most igbo boys have flat backhead? That's thought-provoking.

This what it means for an article to be educative/informative: in Yoruba, the following words have same spelling but different meanings. Enjoy:
Igbo - Bush/Forest/Jungle
Igbo - Ganja/weed/Marijuana
Igbo - Head bout
Igbo - A kind of meal made from corn
Igbo - As in omo nna cheesy

But, because of the fact that they are very hardworking, ambitious, and not afraid to live anywhere, or take up any task, they tend to be resented by their less ambitious and successful neighbors or hosts.

Why can't this person just talk about the Igbos without trying to belittle other tribes.. So the people that host Igbos are less ambitious and successful people? What an insult on people from all states and communities where Igbos migrated to.
It wasn't aimed at belittling anybody. It's a factual statement. The total number of Yorubas living in the whole of the south east may not be up to the number of Igbos that live in Ibadan alone. In a similar manner, the number of Igbos who are settled in Kano alone will outnumber that of Hausas who are settled (living comfortably - not talking about abo.kis) in the whole Igbo land. That will give you an idea of the courage of Igbos to settle down and become enterprising in other people's lands.

So yorubas can now claim Delta and Edo too because they have ishekiris and lots of Edo people bearing Yoruba names. They can even claim part of Kogi and Kwara too by this article because they are well represented there.

This is where the problem is. The fact you were allowed to reside, execute your biz in a strange land does not give you claim to those lands else you will be asking for trouble. You will only be showing ingratitude towards your hosts' hospitality

You really need to convince me better not with this write up

correction, kwara state is yoruba though it is categorized as north.

1. Why did the ikwerres refuse to giv u igbos ur property wen u pple returned bak to port harcourt after d biafra war.
2. Why was Ikwerre people organisation (ogbakor ikwerre) established b4 igbo peoples organisation?
3. If ikwerre was igbos why is our tradittion diff frm d igbo tradition?
4. In ikwerre we call the igbos "osoma" meaning Labourers, why so, igbos ans dis.

@OP - I have 4 questions for you & your people.

1.) If the Igboland is not landlocked; Y can't Igbo business men be shipping & clearing their containers at Anambra, Onitsha or even Enugu through the so-called Uguta Lake instead of congesting the Lagos wharf for us?

2.) If there is Oil in Imo, Ebonyi & Anambra; Y then do the Igbos want to kill themselves over the recently discovered Oil in Kogi?

And Y are the Igbos always laying claims to Rivers & Delta States Oil as theirs?

If so, Y can't they confront & challenge Asari Dokubo & Tompolo over the Oil in Rivers & Delta respectively if truly it belongs to the Igbos?

Abi the Igbo are scared that Tompolo will not hesitate to wipe out the entire Igbo population with his newly acquired war vessels?

3.) If the Igbo' calender is indeed accurate, Y did they abolish it & chose to adopt the gregorian calender?

4.) Y do the Igbo wear Yoruba Agbada & Hausa Baban Riga but the Yoruba and the Hausa do not ever wear Igbo National Dress?

Answer: It is not far fetched. The Yorubas cannot wear the Igbo National Dress simply because the Igbos always refer to them [generally] as Amala & Ewedu people, Yoruba & betrayals of Biafra & Ojemba Ojukwu, while also trying to dominate them & steal Lagos from them in addition to calling them cowards.

The Hausas also cannot wear the Igbo National Dress simply because the Igbos refer to all of them as Terrorists, Almajiris, Boko Haram, Pedophiles and most importantly because they support Goodluck Jonathan in his 2nd term bid even when most of their region & people are being bombed constantly by GEJ's faction of Boko Haram [otherwise, how would explain the Alimodu Sheriff's recent exoneration by GEJ & Henry Okah's confession on the October 1, 2010 Bombing in Abuja]?

Note: I have answered the 4th question for you, but kindly answer the remaining 3 questions politely.

Pls let us be civil & not engage in tribal e-war as a result of my questions because this is a New Year.

Gracias!
Answers to your questions:

Answer to No. 1. Question
If Igbos weren't so important to Yorubas and Hausas, why didn't they allowed Igbos to go their way as Biafra after the 1966 coup?

Politically after the civil war in which Britain, etc helped Nigeria (Hausa, Yoruba, etc) to win, Lagos became the centre of economic activities in Nigeria, and Igbos coming out from war in which they lost virtually all they hard, needed to survive; hence the reason for their mass migration to all parts of the world to seek for greener pastures.

If Yorubas and Hausas truly hate Igbos and see Igbos as irrelevant to them, let them apply to United Nations for Biafra to be granted freedom, but they won't do it because they know deep down their hearts that without Igbos being part of Nigeria, Nigeria will be like Chad, Niger, Burkinafaso, Togo and the likes.

Answer to No. 2
There is huge crude oil reserve in Imo State (Uguta lake) and Adax Petroleum has been exploring oil there since ages, u can pay a visit there...there's also crude oil reserve in Egbema in Imo state, Nekede in Owerri, etc.

There are also crude oil reserves in Abia, Anambra and Coal in Enugu State. What's happening between Kogi and Anambra is a land dispute which happens in all parts of the world including Gaza, West Bank, North Korea/South Korea, etc.

Answer to No. 3.
Igbo calendar is complete on its own but Igbo people love adopting western culture more readily than any other tribe in Nigeria...that's y in the most remote villages in Igbo land, u see Igbo people speaking English and Pidgin, but u can hardly find such happening in Yoruba or Hausa land because they aren't so easy to adopt western culture which I commend.

Answer to No. 4.
Answer to this question can be found in my answer above. Igbo people are the most liberal tribe in Nigeria- they adapt and adopt other cultures more easily. They are hospitable and hence ready to adopt other peoples culture.

WHY DO IGBO PEOPLE LOVE MONEY SO MUCH?

The write of this article tried in answering this question but let me add words to his own words:

After the civil war, Igbo people who were the most successful tribe in Nigeria (First President, First Military Head of State, First Richest man in Africa- Ojukwu's father, most educated Nigerian military officers, etc) suffered a great setback when Obafemi Awolowo implemented the wicked policy that led to the seizure of every Igbo person's money banked in Nigerian bank, in which they (Igbo people) were given 10 Shillings no matter how much they had in the bank before the civil war.

Because of this suffering and persecution, Igbos being hardworking and ambitious people began to migrate and engage in all sorts of human activities- legal and illegal to make ends meet and to assist their family and loved ones survive the post-civil war hardship that Igbo people were subjected to.

This led to Igbo people's more quest for success and extra hardwork to survive and as time passed by, it became a norm for all Igbo people to be extra hardworking and smarter than their counterparts in most human activities spranging from- petty trading, importation, exportation, drug trafficking, etc.

Every human love money but not all humans have the smartness and wisdom to pursue money and create wealth; that's a rare trait nature deposited in most Igbo people.

The Nollywood that the world celebrates today is the making of Igbo people which forced Yorubas to start their own unpopular Yoruba movie industry which faces the challenges of language.

One thing that I am so proud of about Igbos aside their wealth creation power and wisdom is their peaceful nature!

After Igbo people, the next peaceful tribe in Nigeria is Yoruba...I cherish Yoruba people for their peace loving nature just like the Igbos.

WHY DO IGBO PEOPLE JOKINGLY CALL LAGOS A NO-MAN's LAND?

This is nothing but a joke to showcase that Lagos comprises of people from all parts of Nigeria and the world unlike other States in Nigeria...its not as if Igbo people don't know that Lagos is a core South-western land and hence, belongs to the Yoruba tribe.

This shouldn't cause panic for our Yoruba brothers and friends because Lagos is very far from Igbo land and can never belong to Igbo nor Hausa...it is a Yoruba land!

Thanks
