I am planning to buy my first car and i am putting both carz under consideration: Avalon 2008 and accord 2009-2011,Which among both cars is cheaper to maintain? Pls i need advice from experienced guys here.thanks.

Please check the number of tranny complains on this cartalk and tell me between Toyota and Honda, which one is more.

Back to the topic, both cars are nice. Just go with your mind. Accord gives you 271hp@6200RPM while Avalon gives 268@6200. Both have same 3.5L V6 engine. To crown it all, I will go with Accord. Not because of the reason above but because I Love Honda.

You said you want to buy your first car and you want to start from any of these big cars. Why not start from a smaller car so that you learn more about driving and cars.

I wouldnt want to be doing 120km and d car would be doing like e wan fly...

I do 180km/hr in lagos. Have gone up to 220km/hr on lekki express way


So, for a speed demon like me that's what I need..

there r on d same level of maintenance cos they r d same spec but just d appearance just slightly differ.

Even though I love Honda, but in this case I'll gladly choose the Avalon.

y do u guys love discouraging people from v6 engines. I have both 4cyl and v6 and I prefer v6. If he has money to buy any of the two cars he mentioned, wat is the maintenance that he cannot do. Op, I use avalon, though an 06 which is not different from 08 in function and parts, I recommend avalon. It's a machine. It's reliable. I order my needed parts from US. They are not expensive.

I don't seem to understand what you mean by "when v6 starts with its issues"... My dear, cars have issues irrespective of the engine displacement, whether an in-line 4 or v6; maintenance is key. If you use the right engine oil & carry out servicing at the right intervals with the right and original parts as well as using a knowledgeable mechanic, your experience of car ownership could be problem free. An abused i4 can make you dread car ownership.

The problem with car ownership in this part of the world as I have observed is, most owners do not engage in preventive maintenance. The syndrome of if it's not broken don't fix it is prevalent in Nigeria. I use a v6 engine and in over 3 years of ownership, it's a joy to drive.

Personally, I will choose the Avalon over the Honda of the same year. The Avalon offers a better performance, resale value, more rugged but with a reduced mpg. I'm also assuming the Honda is also the v6 version as well.

V6 engine is more than those things u mentioned.i deal with these issues all d time with v6.V6 engines r very delicate n expensive to maintain.Few pple can maintain such engine to an extend with such attention it needed.

Bros!u were right n u might b one of those who maintain their cars to da best.I can tell u frm my experience that 80% of those driving cars with v6 engine can't maintain them.My opinion is just based to save d op frm stress that comes while driving v6 cars.

chai. Ur signature has everything to do with that particular opinion of urs. If as a Honda specialist mechanic, u advice ur clients to run from V6 that it has "issues", then like I wrote earlier, I still wonder aloud. Bye
