hello people, i am new on this thread and i need your guidelines. i have a B.Sc in elect/elect engineering with a second class lower(2.92 out of 5.0 CPGA)
Now, i have chosen MUN to do my M.Sc in electrical engineering, luckily for me, they accept a 2.2 for it. Right now, i am applying for the program but there are some places where i run into hitches and thats where i need your advice and/or help.
The first place is the place in the online form where i am supposed to fill in the names of my referees which i understand that at least one of whom must be an academic referee, now my question is that who may i use as the second referee? can i use a relative or some other persons?
secoundly, at the place where i am supposed to put in my RESUME, i want to know what to know what type or format am i to use?. thanks in anticipation.

someone earlier said, admission is competitive, which is so true. but God dey sha.
To your questions:
1. You may use one of your past lecturers or your employer as the case may be. Any is good.
2. Check google on how to write Academic Resume.
Peace.

Akanni, what if the school says No? And the next start date is September?

Then you collect your visa and chill till towards September before you travel.
I think you can actually enter Canada 6 months before your start date but of course, that's 6 months rent and living expense outside budget.
Apologies about the delay, i was delayed my first time too, next will be better.

I think the fact that you don't have a full time job is a negative.
You can afford not to come back.
You might need to get assets to include next time maybe from you parents.
Length of proposed stay, are you sure you actually uploaded the admission letter and it was legible?
finally, your SOP must make sense, especially the current employee situation, employment prospect, etc must be in the SOP.
My thoughts and all the best.

Really sorry to see some people have being delayed. Carefully look at the reasons given and then tackle them

I just want to share a few things I have learnt based on the experiences of others. I am by no means an expert so please don't take me too seriously.

Travel History
This one is usually just the "jara" the VO will put in your explanation for a delay. I mean, a virgin passport is a virgin passport. Most times, this reason comes hand in hand with purpose of visit. It is very rare to see one without the other.

Purpose of visit
This just shows that the VO does not understand why you are going to Canada and what you are going for. Shio! Shebi you put Admission letter in your application that clearly states the duration, you even further emphasized that in your SOP and of course, you ticked the Study Visa column on the application form but the VO still claims not to understand. Of course the VO can see it but (s)he just doesn't understand
(s)he doesn't understand why you studied Microbiology but you now want to pursue a Masters degree in Fine Arts,
(s)he doesn't understand why you want to go for a second degree when you already have one,
(s)he doesn't understand why you are 30 and just going for your undergraduate degree, etc.
(s)he just does not understand and so you have to go the extra mile to make him understand your reasons
This one can be tackled in your SOP. Be honest about it. After all it is possible that I studied Microbiology due to family pressure but my passion really lies in Fine Arts and it is possible you want to change career paths. All these things are possible so be as honest and transparent as possible.

Family ties in Canada and in home country

This one get as e be. The VO does not want you to have too many family members in Canada and also does not want you to have too few family members in Nigeria. So while it might be favorable to say that you have some family members abroad because it will help your application in the sense that you are financially worthy, afterall the family members are surviving, you have accommodation there, feeding will not be a problem, you do not want it to seem like you have strong family ties in Canada, even though you do So balance is key.

Personal assets and financial status
This in my opinion is the easiest to tackle. Most times, however, it has to do with your choice of sponsor(s). While your sponsor's account may be fat enough, what are his financial obligations? For example, it is a lot easier to grant a visa to someone who is the last child of his family with siblings working or married off (The VOs get this information from the family information form). On the other hand, it will be a bit tougher granting a visa to someone whose sponsor has a lot of financial obligation, even tougher when the sponsor is not your relative. So pick your sponsor wisely.

Current employment situation
This is just a way the VO tells you that (s)he thinks you are leaving to Canada for greener pastures (Duhh, aren't we all?) This is usually tougher for people who graduated some years back but are finding it difficult to get a job or they got one that's not good enough. To be honest, I can't with this ridiculous reason. What is wrong with wanting more for your life? Not that Canada is exactly more but its an option that we just want to explore. But then again, find a way to tackle it. Again, you can be honest about it.

Personal assets and financial status
This again, depends on age and also, years of work experience. Sadly. They expect that if you have been working for say, 10 years, you should have some level of comfort financially. A VO has his own expectation, even though some are not realistic.

At the end of the day, it depends on a lot of other things. Sadly, the VO's mood is one of it. If it is rush hour, if there is a quota in place, anything. But guess what? When God says YES...

Like I said earlier, this is from what I gathered from the experiences of others. I may be blatantly wrong but I know this can help someone no matter how little.

All the best guys.

(@Tnuola sorry for your delay. I was actually anticipating positive news from you. I'm sure it will come soon.)

Like Akanni has rightly said, make your SOP very superb and touching on why you're willing to study that course knowing fully well that its not a course mostly sought after, make your goal known, probably not just to be a desk officer but to be one of the top notch HR firm in years to come.
Pls be strong...
