2015: Will History Be Repeated In These Places? by Nobody: 11:42pm On Jan 16, 2015
THE PRESIDENCY:
Since Nigeria's political history, incumbent Presidents and parties never lost their re-election bid. In 1983 Presidential election, incumbent Alhaji Shehu Shagari of the National Party of Nigeria (UPN) defeated his major challenger Chief Obafemi Awolowo of Unity Party of Nigeria. In 2003, People's Democratic party candidate and incumbent President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo defeated the candidate of All Nigeria Peoples Party Alhaji Muhammadu Buhari. In 2007, Mallam Musa Yaradua who was the candidate of the ruling PDP triumphed over Muhammadu Buhari the opposition ANPP, with then Vice President Atiku Abubakar of Action Congress coming distant third. President Goodluck Jonathan of the ruling PDP went ahead to defeat veteran opposition leader Muhammadu Buhari of the Congress of Progressive Change in the 2011 Presidential election.
Muhammadu Buhari and the opposition All Progressive Congress are seeking to dislodge President Jonathan and the PDP from office in next month's contest. Will President Jonathan be able to maintain the momentum or will he be the first incumbent President to lose his re-election bid by succumbing to the force of Buhari?

LAGOS STATE:
In the history of Lagos State a central ruling party has not won the state governorship seat. In 1979, NPN won the Presidency, Alhaji Lateef Jakande of Unity Party of Nigeria won the Lagos governorship election. In 1983, NPN's Shagari won the Presidency, UPN's Jakande was re-elected as Lagos State Governor. In 1992 General election, the candidate of National Republican Convention Michael Otedola[was elected Governor, while the candidate of Social Democratic Party Chief MKO Abiola was elected President. In 1999, the Presidential candidate of PDP was successfully elected, while AD's Mr Bola Tinubu was elected as governor in Lagos state, both Obasanjo and Tinubu retained their respective seat in 2003. Mr. Babatunde Fashola of AC was elected Governor of Lagos State, while Mallam Musa Yar Adua of PDP was elected President in 2007. Mr. Fashola of ACN retained his seat in 2011, Goodluck Jonathan of PDP won the Presidency same year.
In February 28 Governorship election the opposition APC is fighting to dislodge the incumbent PDP from the Presidency and retain Lagos State, while the ruling PDP is fighting to retain the Presidency and also wrestle power from APC in Lagos state. Can either party win both seats or will they share the spoil as usual?

OYO STATE
In the history of Oyo state, no governor has been re-elected for another term in office. Governor Bola Ige of Unity Party of Nigeria who was elected in 1979 was defeated by opposition canditate Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo of National Party of Nigeria in the 1983 governorship election. In 1999 Dr. Lam Adesina of Alliance for Democracy was elected Governor of Oyo state. He was however defeated by PDP's candidate Alhaji Rashid Ladoja in 2003. Ladoja sought to retain his seat in 2007 but was disqualified by his party the PDP, and his Deputy Aloa Akala was given the ticket. Akala of PDP won in 2007 by defeating the ANPP candidate Abiola Ajimobi. Governor Akala was himself defeated by ACN Ajimobi in 2011 when he sought to retain his seat.
Governor Ajimobi the incumbent is seeking re-election for another term, will he become the first governor of Oyo State to be successfully re-elected or will he be the next casualty?

BENUE STATE:
Unlike Lagos State, in Benue State the party that wins the Presidency go on to win the state's gubernatorial election. In Benue State, the incumbent party usually win the governorship election. In 1979 Akpa Aku of NPN was elected. He retained his seat in 1983. In 1992 Moses Adasu of SDP was elected. In 1999 George Akume of PDP was elected, he retained his seat in 2003. Outgoing Governor Gabriel Suswam of PDP was elected in 2007 and he retained his seat in 2011.
Can PDP maintain the tide in 2015 or Will the APC sweep the PDP from the state and from the Presidency? Will they share the spoil to break the "tradition"?

DELTA STATE
Like Benue State, the victorious party at the central usually wins the governorship of the state. Felix Ibru of SDP won the Governorship of 1992, MKO Abiola (SDP) won the Presidency. James Onanefe Ibori of PDP was elected and re-elected in 1999 and 2003 respectively with Olusegun Obasanjo of PDP winning both contest at the Presidential level. Emmanuel Oduagan still of PDP continued the tradition of his predecessors in 2007, 2011 re-run and 2011 Governorship elections respectively in the governorship level, with PDP's Umaru Yardua winning the Presidential contest in 2007, and his successor Jonathan retaining it in 2011.
What lies the fate of the leading Labour Party and APC in Feb 28 election?

ZAMFARA STATE "Rebel State"
Since the first democratic election in 1999, the PDP has been unsuccessful in its bid to wrestle the government house from the defunct ANPP(Now APC). Alhaji Sani Yerima of ANPP was elected in 1999 and re-elected in 2003. In 2007, ANPP's candidate Mahmud Shinkafi was elected Governor. Shinkafi defected to PDP in 2009. As incumbent and Candidate of the PDP, he was defeated again by opposition ANPP State Leader Abdul'aziz Abubakar Yari.
Governor Yari of APC (then ANPP) is seeking re-election against the formidable PDP candidate and exGov Shinkafi in the February 28 poll. Will PDP triumph this time or will their nemesis in Zamfara state be extended?

I have the firm belief that Muhammadu Buhari and the APC will defeat Jonathan and PDP in few weeks time. But I am very curious about the potential outcome of the aforementioned places especially Oyo State

Very true. After all, Peter Obi broke the Anambra jinx to become the first person to be re-elected as Governor of his state.

So many records are going to get shattered this election cycle

The most outstanding will be the resounding defeat of PDP

True to it. The amazing record is that of Oyo state. Alao Akala in one of his campaign he said "In Oyo State politics the incumbent Governor is always at disadvantaged position". I really pondered on that line with respect to the forces against Ajimobi

...and not forgetting Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State who also broke the jinx of being the first incumbent to retain his seat....unlike what transpired in Ondo in 1983 when Omoboriowo (NPN) defeated the incumbent, Adekunle Ajasin (UPN)

@ the Federal level, the status quo will still be maintained while at the States level there will be pockets of pleasant and unpleasant surprises here and there.

And also Ayo Fayose became the first person to be elected twice as Governor of Ekiti State. He also holds the record of being the first opposition candidate to defeat two incumbents in two different elections- He defeated Niyi Adebayo in 2003 and Kayode Fayemi in 2014. He again holds the record of the first impeached Governor to be re-elected Governor in Nigeria.

lailai it's a shame, let's call spade a spade. Someone impeached and even having a case with a crime commission. That could only happen in Nigeria and that's why Nigeria must CHANGE.
