Oga, abeg na which coup plot be that? Mention the major actors of the coup. I'm a Nigerian and find it uncomfortable that a foreign newspaper is telling me a bout a major coup plot in recent time that I never read about in recent history of the country. So Can you please educate us more on this phantom coup that occurred under GMB reign...I want to learn please. By the way, what date was GMB overthrown from power again?
The press as at that time were so gagged that knowing about it is one thing and writing about it meant jail time for the unfortunate news outlets owners and staff.

You people need to educate yourselves on how Buhari ran Nigeria like his personal property.

Hahahaha PDP ar now in a hapless & sorry state. Pls which coup was dat & who were d soldiers executed. While Jerry Rawlins of Ghana executed 3 former heads of state for commiting d same crime dat d nigerian political class commited against our nation, GMB decided against spilling their blood & only put them in jail yet some ignoramuses still go about subjecting him to unfair & vicious attacks.
FYI GMB in his short stint as head of state resisted d attempt by western powers to enslave & exploit nigeria because of d dire economic situation in which d politicians b4 him put nigeria. He snubbed them & their slavish IMF conditionalities.

Their job of "confusing the minds" of their fellow citizens in exchange for crumbs from their very own cake has been made more difficult in the past few days as concerned citizens of this potentially great nation conduct increasingly extensive background checks on the old soldier who wants to rule us again.

STOP CRYING MISTER.

The reward for any failed coup plot is DEATH. Simple as ABC.
I expected better from you.Why did u dignify these clowns with a rebuttal of sth that never happened!
Executions of coupists during the military era was publicly done and even glorified to strike fear into others that had d same intention. So if anything of such happened, it wud have bn made known and even televised to the Nigerian public.Furthermore,to justify such executions, even if it was a fathom coup,a make believe military tribunal and public trial of the coupists wud have been done.
Its instructive to note that except for the public execution of of about 4hard drug peddlers, there has been no further evidence of any other execution of any other person during buhari's regime. If buhari was not a a kind hearted fellow and as draconian as other regimes,he wud easily have had babangida and other army officers rounded up when he had credible information about the coup against him.

Babangida and Buhari should face the same tribunal or be summarily executed.

Savages who truncated Civilian rule and executed others who tried to push them out.

.

Ordinary soldiers asked for BASIC protection after being sent on a suicide mission and GEJ sentenced them to death....one begins to wonder what he would have done to them if they planned to gun him down with other ministers like they did to Buhari.

I depends on the actions taken , the reason those soldiers were court martialed and sentenced to death was because they shot at their CO.
The consequence of a failed coup is death same as a failed mutiny where even in UK why don't you try attack the UK prime minister and see how quickly your death sentence would be read out in a country without capital punishment.

Thank you!!!

APC thinks the Army was wrong in sentencing them to death..

Guys You know what, whether this is another Wendel Slim's handiwork or another one. It smell so much of desperation and its becoming too much and going too far. Infact, some very objective people are getting converted to vote in Buhari because of this character assasination and defamtion.

Whats this campaign of calumny about? First it was religious bigotry then certificate scandal, then PTF corruption, then it was health, then his military killings etc If you have not observed, in military, if you are successful you take over, if not you die. People executed under Buhari were not the first to be so execute and wont be the last. Ask those that tried under IBB.

For once in this country, do or die politics is playing out for real. Note this, a very unlikely person like me and everyone within my cycle of influence will vote Buhari. I will rather vote an ols man than vote the unknow than vote what I know and find unsatisfactory.

WHY IS EVERYONE SAYING HIS HANDS ARE SOILED, IT IS A NORMAL THING, IF YOU WANT TO EXECUTE A COUP, MAKE SURE YOU CAN WIN. IF YOU CANT WIN THEN YOU HAVE ACCEPTED DEATH, SIMPLE. THE PUNISHMENT FOR AN UNSUCCESSFUL COUP IS DEATH.

Everyone is joining the bandwagon of change like Nigerians did in 1983.. unfortunately, these happened few months into Buhari regime

...In addition, prices for food and other essential commodities, which fell in the first weeks after the coup largely because of the presence of soldiers in the marketplaces, have now returned to or exceeded their levels before the coup. Unemployment has been rising, and many of the imported raw materials and spare parts needed to keep factories running have been lacking.

Critics note further that political activity and even debate have been banned and some students organizations have been outlawed. There has been a clampdown on Nigeria's press, and the country's traditionally independent judiciary has also seen its role sharply diminished

Illiterate.
The soldiers rebelled against their leader (an absolute no no in the army) and they were sentenced BY THE MILITARY TRIBUNAL, not Jonathan! Illiterate!
You think Jonathan is like your despotic criminal who appointed himself plaintiff, judge and jury during his despicable regime? Jonathan is a democrat who lets the law run its course without meddling in their business.

Alas, IBB has declared his support for Buhari. It has finally dawned on Nigerians that "Buhari for president" is an attempt to return Nigeria to the old order. If Buhari ever wins, by the time he is leaving, he shall surely hand over to a Buhari-like soldier in a palace coupe.

We know our history & no amount of misinformation can sway d nigerian people. Like Murtala Mohammed b4 him, d west saw d progressive & fiercely patriotic Buhari govt who did what was in nigeria's best interest as a threat to their own interests & did everything to stop him. In d end they succeeded. It is d tragedy of our nation dat d west succeeded in dethroning two of nigeria's greatest leaders - Murtala Mohammed & Buhari who modelled his regime after dat of d patriot, Murtala Mohammed
