Lawyer Says Buhari Had No Need To Show Education Certificates by kingsle66(op): 7:48pm On Jan 21, 2015
The presidential aspirant under the platform
of the opposition All Progressives Congress
(APC), General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.),
had satisfied the constitutional
requirements to run for the Presidential
seat in February poll.
A constitutional lawer Dr Tunji Abayomi
mentioned this while speaking with
journalists.
He said according to the Section 131(d) of
the Nigerian 1999 Constitution
concentrated not on credentials but on
educational degree.

“ All that the constitution plainly requires in
section 131(d) is a show that he has been
educated up to the school certificate level
or its equivalent, not any particular
certificate, ” Dr Tunji Abayomi said.
He continued: “A certificate where available
may well prove the education level of the
citizen desirous of becoming president, but
without it, he can still meet the educational
qualification by other modes of proof.
“Buhari’s written profile, with or without
the presentation of any certificates,
supported by his deposition, puts it beyond
doubt that he has been educated beyond
School Certificate Level or its equivalent.”
The lawyer further argued that it was
constitutionally “trivial and definitely
unwarranted’’ for anybody to ask Buhari to
show his credentials.
Abayomi confronted that the argument by
some legislators that Buhari must produce
his School Certificate was based on
ignorance of the 1999 constitution.
“ The 1999 constitution as amended is
superior to the provisions of the 2010
Electoral Act as amended,” he added.
The lawyer said that the constitution did
not even say that to qualify for election to
the office of president you have to go to
school.

He furthur cited the section 131 of
Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution:
If (a) he/she is a citizen of Nigeria by birth;
(b) he has attained the age of forty years;
(c) he is a member of a political party and
is sponsored by that political party;
(d) and must have also been educated up
to at least School Certificate level or its
equivalent.
It would be recalled that the Nigerian
military had on Tuesday said that it was
not in possession of Buhari’s original
copies of West African School Certificate
(WASC) or statement of result.
But APC presidential aspirant today,
January 21st, hold a press conference to
clear the air on his education certificates.
And at last Government College, formerly
Provincial Secondary School, Katsina, has
released the secondary school certificate
examination results of General Buhari.

PDP couldn't understand the constitution and we want them to govern us well. They ask for the certificate and it has been provided. What's next on your list of propagandas?

Please refer the lawyer to the 2011 Electoral Act before he confuses you the more. Ignorance could be fatal.

Nobody, (I repeat), Nobody is interested in GMB's certificate.

We are all getting it wrong.

The issue is about GMB's claim and whether he could be trusted.

If he has claimed WASC as his highest educational (not professional) qualification, he must produce the certificate when called for in order to proof his integrity.

He claims to change country, address corruption and tackle Boko Haram and unemployment. These are big claims. Very big ones.

How can we believe and trust him on above when a simple claim he made that he has wasc cannot be verified?

This matter can never go away even if he becomes president. Wake up guys, this is 21st century Nigeria. B'cos without satisfactorily clearing the issue, it will be a permanent point of reference by both the press and public to attack him.

It makes this issue a fundamental one.

That is also why GMB's handlers are sweating.

As of today GMB's claim to West African School Certificate cannot be verified.
