Hello everyone, this is for everyone who is in Peaceful22 situation and thinking of sending a letter of intent to the US embassy......... Below is a copy of the reply i got from the US embassy yesterday after sending a letter of intent:...............

" [b]Thank you for your inquiry.

Please note that there is no legal requirement to inform us that you are seeking to give birth in the United States or that your purpose of travel has changed. The Customs and Border Protection, a branch of USCIS, determines a traveler’s eligibility of entry to the U.S, you should be prepared to demonstrate to the immigration officer at the port of entry why you are seeking medical treatment and that you have logistical and financial plans for the treatment.

We recommend that you review the regulations on non-immigrant aliens entering the United States for purposes of childbirth at https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/882/~/visit-the-u.s.-while-pregnant-and-the-risks-involved and plan accordingly. Please you should not stay in the U.S. longer than you are permitted by Customs and Border Protection at the port of entry. The Department of Homeland Security at the port of entry will determine your eligibility to enter the United States on any travel.

If you choose to give birth in the U.S., we advise you to bring evidence of payment, both when you enter the U.S. on this visit, and at your future U.S. visa interviews.

Sincerely,

thanks Phema and kizluv. When labor starts, will they allow one to wait a bit in the hospital lounge while labor is progressing before checking patient in. I am asking this cos you know the way they do packages where u cant be on admission for more than a particular number of hours or else , you may have to pay extra.

What I know is, they would try to go over the phone with you, ask questions l, about your contractions ans try to be sure it is true labour before they ask you to come to the hospital. I wouldn't know much dear, lemme include this to my question sheet for the doc. Sorry I can't be of much help...

There is a general perception by employees in many service oriented coys that only Africans especially those from the West are price sensitive.
In malls, hospitals, drug stores even wen they place 911 (ambulance calls) always wanna know abt price commitments, hassle or do some form of haggling

Hi mamatobenna,

You are not admitted to the hospital until you are 4cm's dilated. I went in to LandD and they hooked me up to machines and checked me and all that but it did not affect my bill even if i wasnt 4cms at the time

however it may be because my labour progressed and before they could send me back home i was already 4cms... lol

I was also advised by my doctor that if my labour starts at say 8pm the previous day, i should try to wait till 12am before checking into the hospital. The reason being that the remaining 4hrs of that previous day already counts as 1 full day and takes away the advantage of having a full day from your package. Hope you understand? Lol

Cheers!

So after Lotalways' post about WHMC increasing their price, I called them first before getting there. The lady I spoke with was just repeating to me "the price has gone up" "it just went up". . . then I asked her what the new cost was, and she said 4200, which was not consistent with what Lotalways said (4500). I just thought ok, I might be lucky and persuade them to take the 4k from me since it seems the new price has not been decided yet. We got cut off and when I called the second time, I spoke with someone else who sent me an email of the bill and it was still 4000, (thank God!). I rushed there to make the payment before they change their mind.

So mummys if you are using them and in Houston, better go and register now. They would be increasing, how soon, I do not know.

Oh, another thing I noticed is that instead of the 4-day stay for C-Section deliveries, it is now 3 days. Seems the hospital has been making some other changes as well apart from the cost.
I asked them a few days back and the price change is from the firstof febuary.

Abeg what kinda freebies do the hospitals give when u have your baby
My Aunt who had her babies @ d cyfair hospital in houston had similac and I think enfamil formula samples, diapers, lotions, bath wash from J and J and lots more about 2 months supply.i googled and found out that it is being discouraged as mothers who intented to exclusively bosom feed saw the free stuff and had a change of heart and started formula feeding. well I would have done the same tho,so I understand.
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by Nita2013: 10:06pm On Jan 23, 2015
Hello mamatobena and beauty, that's not applicable to all hospitals. I had my baby in MIHS and stayed in d hospital for almost 48hrs b4 my baby was born. D two nights starts to count after d baby is born and not when u get to d hospital. A lady gave birth there also by 11pm and her 2nights started counting from the next day cos to them any delivery after 10:30pm to 11pm is not counted as one night (a nurse told me that).

Also as regards labour and contractions, in MIHS u are entitled to one false labour. So when u get there and they see its not yet time, they wud send u back and u wont be charged. But if u go a second time and its still false labour, they ll still send u back but u ll be charged. So u need to be sure. A lady was aving contractions and when she got there, she was 2cm dilated, they wanted to send her back but when she was checked they found out her amniotic fluid was low so they had to keep her so as to monitor her closely.

As regards d freebies, it varies with nurses. But we got stuffs like medela manual breast pump, baby blankets, diapers, wipes, formula, belly band, baby clothes, nipple cream etc‎
