Thanks.

That is our preferred option too. We have the estimate for the full treatment already and we have enough money to cover it. We can make the payment for the full treatment and hand over the rest to his family for his welfare and logistics and close the case from our end.

We of course will still check up on him from time to time.

Makes a whole lot of sense to me.

Looks to me like exhaustion has set in, so bullying, begging or cajoling TEHNS would likely not yield any good results. The workload seems to be more than the resources available, add to that the barrage of questions and criticsm, any human will crash under that. Please let's respect their decision and move on.

The way forward?
1) The remaining funds should be transferred to the patient's family, unless you want it to be re-routed to the original donors.
2) Leadership is lacking, for example, not familiar with the rules here, but I doubt it takes Dangote's signature to get a thread soliciting for volunteers on the FP. Problem here is who is going to take ownership? Any volunteers? Where are the mods?
3) Before we ask for volunteers, what exactly do we want them to do? It has to be specific, like a job description e.g Mr A and B will be responsible for visitation...D will be responsible for fund disbursement......Etc that way reporting will be easier and we won't put the weight of the world on one persons head. Also we need to know how many volunteers are needed.
4) If we can get volunteers, then fund solicitation can begin, but question is what are we soliciting for chemo/India?

Unfortunately , time is luxury in this case. Having a fresh set of eyes on this, might even do this case good.

proffer solutions, don't just chit chat for the fun of it. the vibe i am getting is double-edged.

is TEHN backing off because there is shortage of human resources that can work the field or is TEHN backing off cos they have belatedly realised there's not enough money to take the patient to the promised land?

Bia when did you even enter this thread?

.I think that would be the biggest mistake and even NOT sure if DJ would agree with this kinda decision . . . . Someone in charge of millions of Naira and they have personal immediate needs, you think they will not touch the money that was meant for the young man's treatment?

Mynd44:

Anger has nothing to do with this but when someone comes out of the blues to accuse me of taking funds for my own use I think I have a right not to allow such BS stand.

I bet you would have done same too. I have been on this case since November 11. I even had to drag a friend along because I did not know the way to Eruwa. I remember going to 5 hospitals on the 14th in Lagos and being with Hameed everyday for more than a month straight.

If after all that someone can come out and imply I have been taking funds for personal gains and you don't find anything wrong with that statement you need to think about it again. If you think stepping off is about wanting to be right, you might consider that I was with Hameed today at LUTH for an appointment I begged a friend to arrange so we can have options. I could have just told him I won't be and no one will actually hold me.

The case has gotten to a point where others are needed to play their part.

To those who say anyone gave up, I guess giving up also includes putting down the plans and way forward. I also called the hospital in VI today to make sure the bill was okay and corrected some things just so when whoever will take this up will find it easy. I don't have time for anger but I take exception to being accused of diverting funds.

Anyone who draws sub from this is on his/her own

Please how many people accused you of diverting funds?
Is that a general consensus of the house?
The answer is no
I read that accusation and was saddened by it because I believe if anything you folks have put your own resources into this
I have held positions in a non profit organization and I know how much of my personal money I put in to balance the books when I had expenditure I didn't record so that no one will accuse me of taking kobo.
Personally I don't believe anyone of you took a dime from the funds so that accusation was totally wrong
This is why I say your reasons of manpower shortage is not why you are backing out
You feel hurt by an accusation
Have you forgotten that at various times, you folks have also hurt posters and accused them wrongly and even questioned their motives on this same thread.
So that accusation has not always been unilateral
Idowuogbo and I have had our various moments here but we are still here on a common mission even at those times we disagreed
So I ask again,is this about your lack of manpower or because your feelings are hurt
I suspect the latter and to that I tell you that the person or persons that accused you may never apologize just like you have not apologized to those you hurt.
The mark of maturity is to rise above those insults when duty calls
You cannot back down now
You took on this case willingly of your own volition, without coercion
You simply cannot back down
It is called abandonment
You have gone too far to quit now that's what I am saying in a nutshell

I choose option A. If DJ were in the much touted India, wouldn't the funds have been in the care of his family? So what's the big deal in making payments to the hospital and handing the rest to the family? There is already a plan in motion for his treatment going forward so where does abandonment come into play here? By the way, the treatment may last weeks, months and if he's extremely lucky, years. So we expect the Tehn volunteer to keep following him here and there for unknown amounts of time? What other goal do we have for Tehn please? Abi is cancer treatment a one time thing then it's over?

Let Tehn ensure the hospital is paid and the chemo starts like the option A suggestion and hand the rest over to the family. They would still be able to check in on him now and again. Or will the chemo only work if a Tehn member is physically present to watch it drip into his veins?

I agree with this. Getting new volunteers is also waste of time at this point because of the points you raised. The funds are available, Tehn has gotten him a good hospital for the commencement of the treatment plan, let his family member handle the logistics henceforth. I'm sure if they(djdola's family) are in need of moral and any other form of support, individuals in Tehn and outside Tehn will be there for them.

Djdola, keep fighting man. May the good Lord continue to keep you. May this new treatment plan you're about to embark on be easy on you. Do not give up. When there is life, there is surely hope. Cheers.

I am still tryinv to find out about this full treatment. What should be his situation at the end of the full treatment? Is it 18 weeks of being pain free and then .....is it after the full treatment he would be cancer free?......cancer driven back to stage one?...and have they successfully done this before? Can I have an answer?...please?
Re: RIP DJDOLA- We Will Miss You by TAEpiphany: 1:49am On Jan 27, 2015
Good point you raised there. But check out this perspective, until we find a verifiable volunteer, who is a good book-keeper or accountant , will the money continue sitting in TEHNS account? If they can actually hold it, that's fine, but it looks they are ready to pass the baton on this......they have repeatedly said they would like to pay for chemo and transfer the rest of the funds to the family. If Tehn disappeared off the surface of the earth are we saying we won't move on?
At the end of the day, I doubt we want the patient to get well more than the family does. His Mum spent money from her business on him before Nl'ers stepped in, I doubt they would use a chunk of it to eat amala.

Let them do that and when another case comes up they expect people to donate
Many people are watching this case without commenting
This will set a precedent

That is why I say if they hands off this case they might as well quit taking on any cases here since they have no clue what they are getting into

To ALL my OGAS at the Top, r321, Jaybee3, peakabeau1 (Not sure if spelled right), Mynd44, OAM4J, and my wonderful sister Chaircover . . .

There is no one that could been under such so much attack that you have been with THeN that wont wanna back off, i give so much kudos to you guys, cos nothing tougher than being in possession of other people's money, with humility and one love, i say thanks for all that you have done.

Chaircover, from the little i know about you in the Family section, you are a great family oriented woman and with such a great heart as well, and that is why i will call you OUT on this one, please inasmuch as the actions and lashing out on the THeN group might not be encouraging, i knew you are not a quiter and that is one of the greatest attribute that i respect about YOU.

Jaybee3, my chairman, please i will need you too on this one, i know you personally and you know i have so much respect for you, and for real, your great heart speaks volume and that is why i am calling you OUT too on this one, when i realize you are on the board of the THeN, i knew they are in great hands, cos i have seen how you have used your own hard earn money to help the needy, BUT not yet time for you to look away.

Mynd44 . . . .Your love for basketball is one thing that we have in common, Nothing worse than someone going out of their way to work so hard for someone else and all they get is insult and called names that mama and papa never named you, but it will be a thing of waste all the time and money invested if you give up now, trust me, i feel you and i wish i have some magical powers to make you change your mind, a quitter will NOT go to 5 hospital in 1 day in the madness of the streets of Lagos . . .Biko, look into this.

Pickabeau1 . . . Chairman, i first noticed your activities on charity threads and i so much respect how you coordinated the activities, and from what i saw there, i am so sure you will never quit on anything you have started, thus my plea to YOU to please coordinate the meeting of THeN to re-think the decision of backing off . . . . Trust me, if i was in your shoes too, i MIGHT wanna back off, but each time i have to do such, i will go back to the pix of that young man and imagine what he would be saying to YOU if you guy tell him to his face that you are handing off his case.

OAMJ4 . . . .What a great heart you have and i have read so much from you on political section that you control, trust me, you got it together and you wont wanna quit bro, cos now, DJ needs you, just go back few pages and stare into his face in that picture where he lie there helpless, speak to him via that picture and tell him that you are only doing this because of him, and my chairman, i bet you, he will hear you, speak to his heart and dont quit on him, i take Baba God beg you.

Oga r321, what can i say, you are a man with great credibility and no amount of words spoken online will re-shape your personality, but please gather the THeN together and look into how you guys could get things moving . . .

I know there are more that i am yet to mention, however, it is not about the mention of names, but about looking into the eyes of that young man, and let us do the right thing, no amount of insult or name calling will make us give up if we share same last name (Surname) and i know you are all bigger than allowing the faceless with just fingers to type to make you guys make a decision that you MIGHT wish you never did . .

The face that the clinics knows that the young man is cared for by Nairaland community, that alone has opened doors that DJ's brother handling things might not be able to, and i am sure that with pride DJ could log on to this thread and tell the doctors that a community is right behind him, so please gents and madam, let us all get back to the drawing table to make this happen.

If you guys need more field worker, let us ask people on the thread that on ground in Nigeria to help, someone said on few pages back that you guys could appoint someone to communicate on your behalf, while another take care of finances, by so doing, it wont be stress out only one person and please when you guys need help, let us know here and WE ALL will find a way to make it happen.....

Chaircover said and i quote " if we win, we all WIN together, and i hope we wont ALL lose together in this . . . It is ALL about DJ's health and we could all hold hands and tell him we are behind him in action, prayers and money . . . .

Please forgive ALL and let us move forward . . . . So all being said, Next step is what, and how could we be of help.

I am highly disappointed in TEHN and handing off this case will practically make people forget about it.
People volunteered themselves and you handed out task to them at the preliminary stage. Now the real job of his treatment is about to start and we want to ignore him. I am sure DJ wouldn't have gotten this much awareness if TEHN didn't step into his case.
Why not get more volunteers and appoint more hands to keep watch on him from time to time? Not necessarily everyday but at least someone who will have enough time to check up on him twice in a week.
Now I don't support handling over the money to his family yet because they will finish spending it before his treatment is complete and they won't be able to source for more funds because time is really of essence here.

Money in the hands of family members never goes to the intended purpose
Those of us who started businesses and left family to manage it will attest to it
They will simply buy the cheapest thing they can find or chop the money sef and look you for eye
You want to tell me that if this brother had school fees due for his kids or house rent to pay with I million in his account he will rather be evicted or withdraw his kids from school?
It won't happen
Brothers kill each other for their father's inheritance
Wasn't this the reason Tehns stepped in the first instance and changed the account number of donations so that the money donated can be for the sole purpose it was donated
Why are we now moving back to where we came from?

You have a point oga Femmy.

What we can do (my thinking/not speaking for TeHN now) is not handing the whole money at once but release it in bits and on genuine request.

That way we can provide a bit of control and monitoring and present the state if the account periodically till exhausted.

Mmmmmmmmh........it looks like it all boils down to one thing, we need more hands on deck. With or without TEHN. Morale is low in the group right now, you can hardly function in low spirits, especially when there are no incentives attached. We are not addressing one of the major issues they have brought up - Resources, where do they find more volunteers? ........at this point, it sounds more like a question for Ifa.
And from what I'm reading they don't come across as a group who would hands off completely......they just need to breathe.....sometimes it helps when you take a step back.

The best you guys can do in my opinion is get 3 volunteers who will release money for his treatment and chemo section every week. One person should be in charge of monitoring him and giving feedback to Tehn and another person in charge of keeping accounts and receipts of money spent. Then they can take turns in checking on him and visiting him so they won't get tired

Oga mi, much respect sir. Appreciate you kind words.

But trust me, we are not giving up on Ahmed. Its not possible for us to do that. Ahmed has become part of us and we cant abandon him, especially at this stage.

People may think we don't have a heart but we do. If we are not kindhearted in the 1st place, there wouldn't have been anything called TeHN. We have been through a lot but our passion to keep putting smiles on crying faces had kept us going. And we will continue to do what we are doing irrespective of all the challenges, attacks and insults.

Now to the issue. The truth remains this is not about the insults and attacks, but on facing realities. TeHN cannot keep on with this case even if we want. It is beyond our capacities to continue to run it as we are presently doing. I know the pressure we put on a Mynd44 daily, we cannot afford to keep him on for another 3/4 months. So the family or some new volunteers have to step up managing Ahmed everyday. And if we can be freed of the animosity and the whole bureaucracy involved with the case, the better so we can channel our strength as best as we can, while still looking after DJ in our own little way.

So we can pay for the treatment, allow his brother/family to manage him. If there is a fear that the remaining money will not be well spent, we can release it in bits as I explained earlier.

Please disregard any notion that we are giving up on Ahmed. We love him too much to abandon him, and Ahmed knows this too.

Question is; where are the volunteers? And time is of essence here, reason we think the brother/family are the better volunteers.

The truth is that before then hands off pls get volunteers that you are sure will continue from where mynd44 stopped. We can't leave DJ hanging, please bring on people that are commited to this cause that's the only way tehn can be guilt free

You are right on the money bro. I meant incentive in monetary terms.
At least you got one of them agreeing to your suggestion, now that's progress. I can only hope it doesn't go downhill from here.

They are all professionals and great people with great heart . . . I am sure all will work out well at the end of the day . . .But we ALL have to work together, help where we could and just leave them to it ALL.
