if you open your mind, you will learn.
Let me give you an instance of where I have worked with people with no PhD, but very quality publications. Research institutes like IITA, NISER, NIHORT, etc are places where research works can be carried out, leading to many publications. So if a man is employed in IITA and works there for 5 years, publishes in many reputable journals, then decides to join academia. If armed with over 30 publications, it will only take him few years to become a professor (no need for PhD).
now, let me teach you too, how many point do one get per publication and how many points will qualify you to be a professor?

Infact, no answer the question again, the point you get from your publications doesn't matter if one of them is not a renowned one, globally recognized and internationally awarded. If you like get 100points, you will not become a professor without a PHd unless you follow the backdoor to get it.

In addendum, we have lot of doctors with enough publication points who are yet to be professors.

Your article said 60% of Nigerian lecturers don't have PHD not 60% of Professors.
Know the difference.
I will say 99% of Nigerian Professors have PHD, why is Osinbajo among the 1% that don't have? What are his achievements in his field?
I too was surprised at the analogy of the person you quoted. Thanks for clarifying for him

are u dat trivial? This is social media. Most people type with thier fone. People don't pay so much attention to diction and tenses. All that is important is communication.

An example is Profesor Anao. The former VC of Uniben.

Note: they don't have PhD because they didn't find it necessary. Not because they can't obtain it .
Then Anao, like Yemi, must be a quota system professor grin grin grin
To even went on to become a VC without a PhD is mind boggling

To be a lecturer in Nigeria is not = to being a Professor in Nigeria. That 60% of Nigerian lecturers do not have a PhD degree is different than 60% of professors not having a PhD. All professors teaching in Nigeria today possess PhD degrees, except Yemi Osinbajo. How did he pull that stunt? grin grin grin

NIGERIA FULL OF ROADSIDE PROFESSORS – OKEBUKOLA

https://www.westernpostnigeria.com/new/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/professor-Peter-Okebukola.jpg

Former Executive Secretary of the National University Commission (NUC), Professor Peter Okebukola Wednesday frowned at the way professorial appointment is being awarded in Nigerian universities and insisted that the country is full of ‘roadside professors’.

Okebukola, who was the Guest Lecturer at the 2014 Foundation Day Lecture of Osun State University, Osogbo, in his lecture titled: “When Will the Glory Days of Nigerian Universities Be Here”, said award of professorial appointment in the country is fraudulent.

He insisted that the education system in the country can only be better if the manipulation in the professorial appointment is

eliminated.

His words: “Some people just call themselves professors without any rigour in the appointment process. Those that were appointed as a professor without the necessary rigour are roadside professors. There are many of them calling themselves professors but they have not passed through the normal rigour of scholarship. So they are roadside professors”.

Okebukola said that the situation is disturbing to the extent that the Executive Secretary of National University Commission even came out with an announced that those who have not passed through the necessary rigours of becoming a professor must stop parading themselves as professors because it amounts to fraudulent practice.”

According to him: “NUC is addressing the problem of the roadside professors and if they desist from introducing themselves as professors, they would be arrested and charged for forgery. Definitely, there must be sanctions”.

Okebukola noted that there is inefficiency in the post graduate

schools as a result of which Nigerians are going abroad for their post graduate studies.

He also said that Nigerian universities are not following the spirit of the post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) test.

“The universities are expected to only make the students write essay on a field related to the course they want to study in the university and not writing examinations,” he said.

He added that the universities should desist from subjecting

students to any form of examination after the UTME as such would go against the law.

“The universities can only make the students write essay and use the avenue to see and interact with their prospective students but the universities have deviated and turned the post UTME test to another examination after the students had written the UTME and that is against the law”.

Okebukola, who was among the founding fathers of Osun State University, boasted that UNIOSUN was established to be a world class university and that the institution is still on the right tract.

I do not need to ask anything from Unilag. Yemi does not have a PhD, he did not have any significant achievement before he was made a prof by UniLag. How come?

In any case, Okebukola (a real prof with a PhD) just confirmed that there are many road side professors in Nigeria.
Yemi is obviously one of them roadside profs.

So you are imperfect and you were picking on another person’s spelling mistakes and grammar earlier?

PhD wasn't previously required to become a Professor in Nigeria or elsewhere. Try to research the requirements for professorship now and historically instead of asking stupid questions. If you do need the list of Nigerian, professors with no PhD, you should do your own research. I don’t know why you Jonathan’s supporters now think that it is cool to ask absurd questions on social media.

You are very stupid. He was made a prof in 1990. How many of these publications did he produce before he was made a prof?
No publication, no PhD in 1990, yet he was made a prof. Do you not find it odd?

Plus, many of the things you listed there have no relationship with academia

FYI.. with a thesis and kpatapkata 10 to 20 publications, u hv a phd. Problem with people like the OP is that they think going to 4 walls of a class room and packing certificates make one an intellectual. Shame on u...

@Francis5, kudos for this interesting piece from you which has exposed the road-side "professor" (Osibande) Osibanjo. I laugh in Djiboutu.grin

pluto04:
So you are imperfect and you were picking on another person’s spelling mistakes and grammar earlier?

PhD wasn't previously required to become a Professor in Nigeria or elsewhere. Try to research the requirements for professorship now and historically instead of asking stupid questions. If you do need the list of Nigerian, professors with no PhD, you should do your own research. I don’t know why you Jonathan’s supporters now think that it is cool to ask absurd questions on social media.
A place like NL with all the anonymity allows them to get away with rather foolish questions.

Let him go and post same silly question on his FB page or Twitter handle....

So where is his PhD thesis and/or publications that warrants being a prof?
