Well, I guess I am the second to give good news on the part two of this thread.

Presented my IGI 3-months health insurance and received my visa as well (not this week though- last week) for SS15, Bsc Informatic through Studienkolleg Mainz with the aufnahmetest!

I am new to this thread(part 1 and 2) and more of an observer, not a poster.

Although I wish everybody well and I would render the best advice I can as soon as I can.

Regards,

Hello House,

I guess i might be the first to give good news on the part two of this thread. I got mail from the embassy about three weeks ago to come with my passport and three month health insurance, even before i funded my account which was quite surprising. I still funded anyway.

I picked up my visa this week. Germany here I come, that first class grade is mine, it's high time!!!

Thanks to all who helped my journey especially Kelly4top, Eke40seven, Damsamty16 and all others too numerous to mention. God bless you!

Will definitely keep in touch

Hello guys, pls I need ur help with this issue. I'm trying to apply for a German student visa after recently securing admission. My dad (biological father) is a citizen of The Netherlands, my question is can he stand as a sponsor for me or the sponsor must reside in Germany?

Sometimes it's possible, you dad need to call the german embassy in the Netherlands or go there in person and ask,if he can sign a Verpflichtunseklärung for his son in Nigeria, who want to study in Germany.
Sponsorer are allowed from these countries,Germany,Italy,UK, I don't know for Netherlands.

Errm if your father is Dutch by ancestry or naturalisation, he has right to claim citizenship for you (That is if you are not) and as an EU citizen i do not think you are required to show letter of sponsorship. Unless there is something i am missing here.
Don't u think that would take so much of a time considering the fact that the sch resumes by Sept. Besides I don't really understand how to go about it. I won't mind if u can put me tru that here, so I can tell him

Sorry about the refusal bro, you don't have to give up on admission to Winter 2015 as application is still going on till earliest March 31st. You may also need to consider the relevance of your Bsc with the desired Msc course during subsequent applications. Cheers

hello, congrats. hope you are preparing well for the aufnahmetest. please when did you apply and when did you receive your admission. good luck

Thank you all for the best wishes.

@emerald14 I am doing my best in thorough preparation for the aufnahmetest. I applied for admission actually for WS14(Winter semester 2014) and had to write to all schools that offered me to kindly move my admission to the SS15 to enable me prepare well for the visa application. On average it take 2-4 weeks to get a response depending on the time of application( It is highly advised to know someone in Germany or an EU country to be able to receive the letter on your behalf from the Universities and post to you in Nigeria. I did not like that Nipost system as some advice on this threads) Also, all German public holidays must not be counted for your application processing as the German Embassy still observes those German Public Holidays even in Nigeria.

@junipero: I arrive Duesseldorf Airport 20th February and you?

@scofield03: Wish you the best of luck mate. Are you applying for Bachelors or Masters? Hope you already have the deutsche bank account with the necessary sums. smiley

kindly check the student checklist on the embassy's website for the recent email address. the above email is no longer in use, i tried using it to book an appointment late last year but the mail didnt deliver until i checked the website and i found rk-visa105@lago.diplo.de which was what i used, so i think the embassy changes the email at interval..

How was the aufnahmetest? Did you get it the first time you wrote it? Is there anything I should know when taking the aufnahmetest and studies in studienkolleg in general?

When did you get to Germany? When did you sit the aufnahmetest? Whats the name of your University? How long have you been in Germany in total?

Yeah, I mean Winter Semester (WS2015), SS2015 application of most schools closed by Jan15. Check out daad.de there are numerous Msc Courses (+100% English taught) whose deadline exceeds March 31st. Just draw your plan very well you can still get a place for WS2015.

For instance, I applied to 4 schools for SS2015 which I am yet to get a positive feedback, I had to apply to 3 more schools for WS2015 to be on a safer side and their deadlines are around March and April. Hope it was helpful? I stand to be corrected though.

Before I answer, i have one question. Do you live in Portharcourt or Asaba?
1. You have to be precise ooo. I wrote a few. Trust me, they were all unique.
2. No, I most absolutely did not pass the 1st Aufnahmetest I wrote. I chose one of the toughest Studienkollegs and had to pay for it.
3. The aufnahmetest is just what it is. An entrance test. Do not let the multitude of Moroccan, Indonesian and Arab rivals faze you. Else you go fail ooo. For the 2nd part of the question I'd say "If u wanna know what the club's like, you really gotta get in". It's fun though if that's what you want to hear. cheesy
4. I travelled to Germany exactly 12months 15 days ago.
5. Wrote the Aufnahmetest 12months 1 day ago.
6. My current Studienkolleg belongs to the Uni Kassel.
7. Repeat answer 4.

We could communicate durch Whatsapp if you don't mind. I'm not always here on Nairaland. Except it's to see GMB Vs GEJ threads grin

I had always wanted to ask you the questions the other guy asked.

Now here is mine (@ Scofield, this questions goes to you)

What level of German language proficiency do one need to attain before one can sit for the entrance exam?

2. How difficult is the entrance exam?

3. Where is the location for the exams (in Nigeria)

4. Are there tuition fees for the courses and at what range?

5. Can you confirm that the studienkolleg is not accepted in the whole state or at least available in the whole States in Germany?

6. Can one comfortably switch from a studienkolleg (which are all taught in German) to an all English taught course?

we all have younger ones (even if they are not direct family members) who could see that as an option or those who wanna explore that. Lets get your expert and experienced opinion.

please any studienkolleg student is also free to answer.

@ Eke40seven, I really don't know much about the Studienkolleg but from the little knowlege I gathered from previous infos on this thread (part1):

1. I think minimum German proficiency level is B2..

2. The entrance exam based on statistic is comparably "difficult". Though, nothing is impossible with hardwork.

3. I am not sure if there is any Studienkolleg exam centre in Nigeria, I only know of Goethe Institute where one can attain this level B2 German proficiency or more.

I don't really have a confirmed info on 5 & 6.
Let more experienced peeps throw more light into this.

@fapper,
I got to know daad.de before I discovered the part1 of this great thread last year. I submitted two applications for Winter2015 since November (Uni Stuttgart and Uni Tuebingen) and in LMU Munich (application opened January 12-online). I still have Uni Goettingen and Freiberg in mind (application is also open).
I wouldn't know if it depends on the course of study but for Geosciences most of the school's application links are opened.
Cheers.

I applied like 19th Dec and then received the email to present the 3-months health insurance at the embassy 14th January.

The time they respond to you depends really on how easy your documents are to flip through I guess, if your interview went smoothly and the work load they have at that time.
