They said that terrorists while clashed with the federal troops in Monguno used over 5,000 cows as shield.

According to a escaped soldier, who does not want to be named, said the cows were confiscated from Fulani herdsmen in villages around the northern parts of Borno State by the Boko Haram militants.

He said: “Every day, we were heard stories that Boko Haram insurgents were seizing cows from Fulani people. Nobody ever thought that their plan was to use the cows as shield to evade soldiers until that day when the release over 5,000 cows as shield.

“They hide themselves behind the cows and were advancing towards us. All our gun shots were hitting the cows,” the escapee said.

Hundreds of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) are still isolated in Maiduguri on Baga road.

National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) officials said yesterday they have registered about 5,000 IDPs from Monguno town after last Sunday attack on the town by Boko Haram.

It should be noted that after Boko Haram captured Monguno, which is located close to Maiduguri, the terrorists tried to progress to the Borno state capital.
