Ngwakwe:
The contestants are not debating about the differences on their policies, implementation and the feasibility thereof.

They are just discussing on what possible problems and what to do as they read/heard from Nigerians on the social networks and gossip columns from print and online media.

None of them is quoting statistics, research outcomes, they are not even challenging the present policies (as what to reform, change and especially how) let alone coming up with convincing methodology on tackling the challenges at present.
....this takes me back to my debate episodes in secondary school. This is a preparatory stage!

What research outcomes, what policies?

I agree with you on statistics and the last two lines in your input.

Ishaka Paul of AA says they will give 1000 youths 1 million naira every year. I don't get that. Says they will re-brand the ICT sector

Oluremi of AC says they will check the power sector when it comes to unemployment so everyone won't have to search for jobs and go into something for themselves. says, most people ain't working with their certificates and people don't have to. Says they will divert youth's attention to self-employment and help them with that.

Allright, let us give her slack!

Out of failure comes success. This is Mary's first outing as a political leader. Her inability to articulate her position should not necessarily be viewed as a reflection of ability to lead.

Im sure she will correct her shortcomings going forward...who knows where fate may position her in the future of our sovereignty.

We need to empathize and stop beating on people for not speaking well in public. Lets start assessing 'can do' spirit!

A leader does not have to be articulate, but they must be intelligent. She has not communicated intelligently so far.

At least I want to hear someone quote a research by UNESCO, WHO, FAO, Millenium Development Goals etc.

Some quotes like "one in every 20 women die during child birth", "poverty rate in Nigeria according to so and so studies will be x% in 2020 if this or that is not done", quotes on climate change and its effects on farming, cost of health services according to WHO etc will suffice.

I toe your line of reasoning.I commend the woman for having the courage to attend the debate in the first place.I know with time, she will brush up herself and become a better public speaker.I know many people that are very intelligent but are not good speakers. However, the moderator of the debate was being unprofessional when he advised the PPN VP candidate to make herself very comfortable.Such patronising statement like that in a public forum is degrading and can make one to lose his/her confidence

You are correct! Articulation is a vehicle for the communicable ideas. The ideas can be super appealing but if not put across fancifully the human ear finds it boring and noisy, then recoils from accepting it.

Fancy expression and good looks is what put Obama in White House....America could care less about his intelligence! Fancy speech worked for JFK, Clinton and Reagan.

Reagan particularly was a smooth operator with words....being an actor and used to stage and romance!
