I concur.

That they refunded the money as they should is not enough.

UBA remains the most USELESS bank ever!!!

I'm not even going into what I had to pass through when my account was wrongly placed on PND.

I have vowed never to have anything to do with UBA. I had an issue almost similar to this, unfortunately UBA aided the fraudster and I lost about 45k. I complained to the branch manager who said I should get a court order and police extract. I was able to get the police extract and an affidavit (the court said it can't issue me a court order since I have not filed a case against the person involved). I went bak to UBA and all they could tell me was that its hard to retrieve my money. UBA is aiding and abating fraudulent acts in Nigeria.

The advise you got from UBA was in order. You would have gone the extra mile to get the court order...

Please who can help push my case?
Have a service issue like this with a property developer, ESSENTIALHOME, in Lekki. Took my money but refused to deliver.
I understand that some other people are falling victim.

start a thread on nairaland get a blog website and paste details of the transaction all over the place. also, make sure you send them your links so that they can monitor your smear campaign progress also tweet like hell! and post your ordeal on facebook i bet you within a week they'll refund your money! it's very cheap but effective and even if they refuse to return your money, they'll end up losing all their potential customers.

It is not possible to get a court order when you don't have any case in court. Besides, they told me that its the Nigerian police that will get the court order and bring to them. Where in hell do they want me to get the Nigerian police do this? Thought of taking the case to the EFCC, but on a sexond thought, I decided to relax cos there was no sign of seriousness from UBA and I had already spent 9k in my movements. I had to avoid wasting more money.

Useless bank. Still charging 3naira as COT charges against the 1naira CBN directive for this year. Have complained severally, and as usual with them, no meaningful response yet.

Congrat OP but shed more light on how your jingles was refunded to your account. Nigerian banks like doing "SALAMI SLICE" on customer's account.
Coded stealing of small money from millions account holders.

People still bank with UBA because they are reliable. Irrespective of what happened, UBA is still among one of the good banks out here. Just because we don't come running here always complaining of what was meted out to us by other banks doesn't mean we have no issues. My parents have banked with UBA for ages, they passed it down to us too. We've all not had any issues.

I know they say Experience is the best teacher, still you shouldn't judge by this, there are so many people who have been banking with UBA from the word go and haven't had one single issue. Yup!

I really dont know what the fuss is all about. Why would this person post a letter and then says it has been resolved? he just wants to create controversy for UBA and thats not fair and nice. no bank is perfect and UBA cant be at your beck and call 100%. I av never heard of this all my life banking with UBA, so it makes me wonder what kind of dubious fellow will come on here and brainwash the people.

You guys should keep your cards safe especially MasterCard because all transactions on mobile sites do not require authentication once the user has Ur full digits, expiry date and cvv2.

I'm shocked at the way people are taking this post. I'm a lawyer and I worked in a bank before going into advocacy. From what I see here, this lady has no case. If u wake up hours after your card was used, how do you expect the bank to stop a transaction that was consummated hours before? That's why CBN did not rule in her favor. We know how strict CBN usually is.

International best practices stipulate that you are warned about a pending transaction but the bank is not authorized to stop it unless u sayso. You may want to tell your bank NOT to honor ANY transaction until you say so. Even Nairaland notifies you by email once your account is accessed; do they stop activity on your account after notifying you? No, they don't. They'll only do so after you've reported to them. On the other hand, I have accounts with about 5 banks and I know alerts get delayed sometimes.
I think we should commend UBA in this case for paying this Lady even when they're not liable.
People, let's try to eschew this aggression towards Government and big corporates. The change we need in this country starts from you and I. Do the right thing. I'll be very happy to help advise anyone with a genuine case against any organization on steps to take and before the conspiracy theorists begin, I DO NOT CHARGE for helping the maligned. My day job takes care of my needs.
Thank you.

This same Walgreens USA again. That's where some 419 stole my dollars too on Union visa card and carried out several transactions along with Onola Car Shipping business, Onola Car wash and Walgreens groceries. They were just using my visa card anyhow. Previous year it was booking flight on Japan Airline International. Thank God that Union bank responsibly gave me Visa International indemnity and refund claim form to fill and followed it up. My dollars were refunded after they blocked/hotlisted the card.

I think it will be nice to respect the the OP's privacy, she came with a complaint and now she insists the problem have BN resolved. While I can't say there is no bank that gives anybody 100% customer's service, it is safe to say I have been using UBA since 2004, up until 2008, their service wasn't really impressive but then things changed and even me that loves to criticize could see it. They have BN very commendable I must say, I will give them an 8/10. So please we should all have a re think.

I refuse to accept the fact that UBA is a useless bank. I keep saying I know loads of people who bank with UBA and not a single complaint. Biko, lets be reasonable.

I really dont get the critics on this page. It will only be intelligent to seek both sides of the story. UBA is a bank I will recomnend to anyone, even in my sleep. They have been great to me, my family, my friends that use them, and even friends of friends. So with that, please don't be ignorant when commenting.
Re: Poor Handling Of A Fraud Case By UBA Plc: An Open Letter Of Complaint by issadanmallam: 6:15am On Feb 11, 2015
Naija we just like trouble. i cant even confirm if the actual story is valid, because this is the first time I'm hearing about it. and even if it is, there are other factors to note.

carelessness on the owners part.

A family member being responsible for the fraudulent transactions (esp as it was timed during late hours when the owner would prob be asleep)

Yes its also sad to note that people still make use of other people computers for bank transactions and online purchases. this we all know is very risky.

how sure are we the mail was sent under the 12hrs stated? ( she was asleep when the mail came in)? how often do people get woken from sleep by an email alert?.

That being said this post says the money has been refunded. so why all the attacks on the bank then? if the story is even true that is.
Re: Poor Handling Of A Fraud Case By UBA Plc: An Open Letter Of Complaint by FrancaBee: 6:35am On Feb 11, 2015
Different strokes for different folks. my banking experience with UBA since 2006 till date has never involved such an incident, as well as friends and family which i know. it always minor, and and always usually resolved quickly.
back to the matter at hand, ive noticed a trend that a lot of us Nigerians like to get into arguments and throw accusations, without first finding out what the real story is, or even in this case reading the caption of the article, which clearly states at some point that the bank had refunded the money.
In my own opinion, this is indeed an generous gesture because if it had been a bank like GTB, even with all their token crap, when your money is gone, its gone for good this is most common with failed transaction.

there is also no bank which can be a 100%. Incidents will happen, and what makes a bank stand out is how it treats its customers. this right here is a very good example of a bank which has its customers interest at heart.

Thank you jare that's the simple truth. as dey say, good news is no news these days.

we dey here dey argue abt banks, Politicians are out there robbing the country, our own money. oil prices are continually crashing. the day of reckoning is at hand. may God save this country

on a side note, dollar is now N199, GBP is N303. which way Naija?!!!
Re: Poor Handling Of A Fraud Case By UBA Plc: An Open Letter Of Complaint by SirSulieman: 6:57am On Feb 11, 2015
Well its no surprise, this is what Nigerians do best, argue blindly, blame people, cause confusion. its a pity oh!, it clearly says the money was refunded, for an incident which may have been triggered by carelessness on the owners side, which is almost always the case as people lie a lot to cover thier tracks and mistakes. i have banked and continually made purchases online for my business for at least 5 years now, without a single incident, using the same UBA, right from when it was VISA cards up till when they switched to Mastercard.

bottom line, if you are careless, then stuff like this will def happen to you. it just takes a simple mistake, and the most common mistake a lot of women do is this: oh!, im not good with computers, my friend will help me do it.

Bingo!! that's the doorway for you to get robbed.

That being said i stand by UBA and say that they are prob the most reliable Bank i have baked with thus far.
