You are wrong sir, was OBJ an ex-convict or not? Why did Nigerians including you still vote him as President? Now which one is worse? Be open minded in your analysis and don't be bias towards someone simply because of hatred
No sir Obasanjo was a political prisoner just like Mandela of South Africa and other Human Right figures sent to Jail by their respective head of state. such people are not refer to as Ex-convict rather they are Called Hero's and are celebrated.

NB: they where never convicted by a law Court

Let whoever wins take his rightful position in Aso Rock. Whatever be the case do not help to heat up the polity. This politicians we always clamour for dont have our interest at heart. When the violence start, they and their children will flee to fortification while the military men will be wasting the lives of Nigerians. Recall the Nigerian civil war, the principal actors lived to ripe age. Gowon is almost 80 and Ojukwu died at the ripe age of 78 leaving inheritance for his children but do not forget that 3 million people lost their lives on both sides. Their death was in vain as the politicians reconcilled and many are now great friends and they are still ruling us. Their children have equally joined in ruling us. if not why would the children, wife, inlaw, nephew of Tinubu, Obanikoro, Lai Mohammed, Abacha, Ibori, Osoba, Igbinedon etc have the nerves to even pick up any form from INEC. Let us be wise, vote for your candidate and move on. We have never voted anyone that will please us for even a term, before the tenure ends we will start screaming and shouting for another. Politicians are not your messiah. We are the ones to drop our selfishness, materialism, hatred, insensitivity and wickedness towards another. Our division is greatly helping their own agenda. As long as we are divided we will always be at the loosing end. What they owe us is infrastructures, security and proper resource control. It is not theirs to help us define our heritage, an Hausa man is not better than all the other 250 tribes and vice versa. We are first human before we recognise any tribe or nation what we owe each other is love. We are not different in anyway except our mindset. It is not theirs to help us discover religion, it is supposed to be between us and our God. Religion is a personal thing, as long as it works for us. God is the judge not us or them. Please keep yourselves safe, you too can rule one day.

For the first time in a very long time, I agree with Mr. President.

Corruption is not stealing; it's a lot more than that. Analytically, corruption is like a country of which stealing is a member state. But then, stealing is corruption. In Toto.

Mr. President spoke like a typical African, and what he said is the truth. When you go to the white man's land and talk about corruption, it is a serious case - one which is placed under intensive & thorough scrutiny. But in Africa, we don't really look at these things as a whole. We like to be specific.

Tell a typical African man that someone is corrupt, and he'll be looking at you bemused, waiting for you to explain. But tell him that that person is a thief, he'd first of all, adjust, trying to secure his things around, then he'd look around in search of stones to cast at the said thief.

However, Mr. President committed the fallacy of statement misplacement (even though I coined this fallacy myself). He should have said, "Corruption is not stealing", and not "Stealing is not corruption".

Hello, Mr. President, yesterday, today & forever, and anytime, anywhere & any day, STEALING IS CORRUPTION. Thanks. smiley

He's also corrupt.

But My President says the Ideal Title is Thief (Ole)

And I agreed with him.

A Thief should be addressed as a Thief.

God Bless President Goodluck Ebelemi Jonathan.

So who is now a corrupt person if a thief should not be refer as a corrupt person?

Ops, You are just as stupid and clueless as your president, the question you need to ask yourself what is the meaning or definition of the world 'corruption', which means 'dishonest or fraudulent conduct by those in power, typically involving bribery', what is the definition of 'stealing' it means; taking (another person's property) without permission or legal right and without intending to return it. All these babbling and mumbling of the sadistic bastard just to safe face isn't working. There are only three types of people that would vote for the clueless one, the hypocrites, their types have being with us for centuries, God didn't speak well of the hypocrites, the Evil doers, those ones are the corrupts politicians, corrupt Nigerians, the drug dealers they know if buhari becomes the president is longer business as usual for them and lastly, the stupid ones and they constitutes 90% of the people supporting the clueless one, reason a state governor would say he knows the president has done nothing for his people but he would still vote for him. If you sat down and watched the rambling of the clueless one on Tv yesterday and you are convince about what he said about differentiating corruption from stealing, then you are part of that 90%.
Story continues,,,, what a novel u got here. Your brain must be royally screwed by now. With what you defined on the top part of ur story, quite right, but I don't suppose u read and understood the president's speech so I didn't bother to finish yours, otherwise you would have known better. Mind you the thread is for educated people not illiterates like you and your General. One would think you practically knew the difference between stealing and corruption, but it's obvious you desperately sought the guidance of a dictionary. Don't worry we know the MEANINGS.

my brother the level of ignorance in this country is nauseating. I have tried in the past to clarify this same issue, I stated that Gej was quoting a Former chief justice, I watched the video where he said that "stealing is not corruption" he clearly stated that the former chief justice said that 80 percent of what people call corruption is a case of stealing which has a different penalty as corruption, but they wouldn't listen. At a point I was very annoyed with presidential media aids for not clearing the air on this.. APC members were using it against GEJ.. Honestly, this man is sooo "aidless". Had it been he didn't come out to clear the air, people will still believe that he said "stealing is not corruption". Even the journalists in the country are too lazy to correct the populace. I pity this country because its being built on propaganda, this trend will be very bad, if left unchecked.
Hmmmm. I don't understand why they left this misinformation to carry on for so long. God bless GEJ. We shall conquer.

Anyone who steals is a thief..... For you to be a thief you must be a morally bankrupt person (which is a fancy word for corruption)....for no man who is not corrupt in the first instance would dare steal

"more than 80 per cent of them were just cases of stealing. But people use corruption to cover all. So, let us communicate properly.

" It was not me that said it, I quoted Mustapha. He examined the corruption cases and he saw that they were just cases of stealing.

This just further confirms my assertion that the president is a retard. Definition of corruption according to Advanced English Dictionary;

lack of integrity or honesty (especially susceptibility to bribery); use of a position of trust for dishonest gain.

One doesn't need to be intelligent to understand this. When a man in the road steals, that's just stealing. But when a man in a position of trust is dishonest and uses his position for dishonest gain, that's corruption

And this man has a Ph.D. oh. Smh
Re: Jonathan Explains What Meant When He Said ‘Stealing Is Not Corruption’ by jumobi1(m): 11:00am On Feb 12, 2015
Stealing is corruption except in rare cases like stealing out of necessity or stealing to survive. This however isn't the stealing GEJ was referring to. Corruption is not necessarily stealing as there are other forms of corruption like forgery and favoritism(baselessly having 70%+ of your cabinet from one region).
However GEJ should have articulated his opinion better. He did say stealing is not corruption which is false based on context. Stealing of public funds by those in power is corruption.

This is exactly what we are talking about. Sentiments!!!! How am i supposed to take out a statement made by a presidential aspirant if he made such statement referring to this same election as far back as 2012, does he mean the literary baboons and monkeys? May be this links will remind you of the context by which he meant it. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/05/2015-ll-be-bloody-if-buhari/. https://www.nairaland.com/938100/dog-baboon-soaked-blood-buhari. You didn't ask me to take out NDs threats of war, should I assume they were quoted out of context too.

As for me I have always maintained that the difference between the two parties is 6 and half a dozen. We Nigerians give them the audacity they have to use us as pawns by our sentiments and hatred for each other. I wish everyone well.
You are the one who's sentimental and I insist you don't know what you're talking about. Ask those who understand what it means to tell you. The statement can never be used as a consequence. It is the event itself, and always refer to contest between two people, opposing groups or teams. You included the statement seeming to make your assumptions balanced. You'll forever be in ignorance if you persist in using it in the context in which you understand. It is an idiom and shouldn't be translated as you did, literally.
Re: Jonathan Explains What Meant When He Said ‘Stealing Is Not Corruption’ by bdidi: 11:08am On Feb 12, 2015
I have gone through all the comments made here so far and I think we all are missing one point.

The president said that he was quoting the Chief Justice as at the time the statement was made.

Why are people attributing it to him.

What he has done is to clarify the true intent of the statement.

Please can we use our sixth sense wisely and not be blinded by the drums of bandwagon effect.

Politics is not war!

Its a systematic game of permanent interest!

Nobody is a magician when it comes to the state called Nigeria

Let's think before we begin to jump the gun!

GOD bless Nigeria.

When you say someone is Corrupt, you're not specifying why the person is corrupt. It's the same as saying someone is Bad without pointing out what exactly the person did that made him/her bad.
A thief is corrupt.
A liar is corrupt.
A killer is corrupt.
A back stabber is corrupt.
A cheater is corrupt.
A pastor who baths someone's wife in the name of "spiritual cleansing", is corrupt.
And many others.

I don't like Jonathan but I understand his point on this.

Anyway. Let me rephrase it for your Ph.D brain.

Alamieyeseigha is not corrupt
He is just an ordinary thief
Nigerians want to use his "abuse of office" in stealing to justify calling it corruption. Tufiakwa!

Hence, GEJ pardon him for thief-thief (how much did the guy steal sef? Money that is not enough to buy 40 private jets)
But be aware that GEJ will not tolerate corruption

But if a sleep with another man, that is corruption.
Na 14 years in prison last price, no reduction.

Why do we have so many dump people. The president said this in our environmental contest and how we generally interpret issues. Go on the street call some one and point to him as corrupt. He is even emboldened and proud. Call him a thief and he goes into hiding. We should call a spade a spade most of our politicians are thieves and should be labeled and tagged as that

Alamesia came from your area. He was stripped by Obj for stealing but you went ahead to grant him a presidential pardon same with Kashamu who has a trial in the US and Bode Tewonde George who stole money in NPA and also benfitted from your presidential madness.

Something is wrong with you sir !
The OBJ that stripped Alamesiagha, were his own hands clean? The truth be told. Nigeria has suffered nonentism for the past 47 years before Yaradua/Goodluck's administration. They are nonentities that carry logs of woods in their eyes but want to clean another's with a litle grain of sand. Goodluck as an intelectual, has the formular for stampping out both corruption and stealling. (just block those avenues of stealling) when they see nothing to steal, everybody will brace-up. My question is; of all the stripping and convictions ever made both by OBJ and the certificateless representative of the all the corrupt minds in this country. How much have they reduced the evil. Gej told us about fuel subsidy corruption, we did not understand it. But today, we have seen what the vissionable was able to sight while we were yet asleep. More of his adroit leadership to come because the mandate is his to stear this great nation to its promised land. Lets tell ourselves the truth
