Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. 9The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:8-9
This answers the question. So, let's think over this about whatever song we listen to. When someone wakes up in the morning and the best music he tbink he can listen to is "kolo mental, I don dey kolo" or "orie foka sibe" or music that glorifies immorality, bro you have to check it.

You can listen to any music as long as the lyrical content is pure and nourishing to the soul.. You'd be surprised how many "gospel musicians" live sinful lives.. if the vessel spewing the water isnt clean then is the water clean? I'm not saying dont listen to gospel oo, im just saying be careful not to think its the only genre of "good" music.

I listen to reggae music and it is one of the most soulful, positive and uplifting genre's of music. Most speak of hope, overcoming the devil, looking up to God and even falling in love in the right way
Re: Are All Wordly Songs WrongTo Listen To? by Reference(m): 7:20am On Feb 15, 2015
Music generates great passion and emotions so it could be motivating, inspiring or destructive. I guess the general rule is: what are you trying to achieve by listening to 'that' particular work or piece.

If I am a soldier going into battle the last thing I need to hear is, “draw me nearer, nearer blessed Lord to the cross where thou has died...". That is self defeating. Fela's "Zombie" is a lot better but will be totally out of context on a Sunday morning like this.

Sportsmen going into competition, artistes, sculptors, painters, architects, designers all listen to different types of music to inspire them or to give them that mental edge, that motivation to perform. Music is powerful.

I listen to a lot and even some considered of very poor taste. I could remember a particular incident in which I had to leave Lagos for Portharcourt by road at 11pm after a hectic day. Guess what artiste I played all night to stay awake.

Finally, the mind is a great reservoir of thoughts and information. Music and lyrics are stored subconsciously so when you listen overtly or covertly to certain pieces you really don't appreciate, like those magnetic tapes of old write over them with new material. Listen to the right stuff to 'detox' the mind. Which means you should listen to music often because there is a lot of bad stuff out there all the time and your mind is a fertile ground for corruption.

My own issue is I love dancing a lot. I use it as a form of exercise. The only songs that can make me move are all this worldly songs. Most christian songs I know do not sound so vigorous to warrant me into dancing so hard. Especially all this Nigerian songs now, u will dance till u shiver.

But in actual fact, worldly songs do not have good lyrics most of the time. It induces bad thoughts and can make u act on them, at the same time, we don't even need worldly songs to start having unhealthy thoughts. There are temptations everywhere. What we should preach more is self control. If u go to a party and they start playing such songs, would u put on your ear phone or walk away just because it doesn't suit u? We should practise self control more which is devising a means of removing our mind and thoughts from such acts that will lead us to sin but whether we like it or not, nobody is exempted from being tempted.

felt I should hear your opinions and ideas about this
sensitive issue.

Worldly songs? When is a song called Worldly? Or are all
Worldly songs bad? I really need answers to this cause I
want to learn.

Truly, when I hear some songs and their lyrical content, wow
is my next expression because they can be bad to the core
But then again, if someone sings for peace,or about the lost
of a lost one to console mourners, nursery rhymes, national
anthem, school anthems and many others good songs I
know, I tend to wonder where to classify such or are we
going to say that they are equally bad because they are
worldly?

Please o I really need your opinions.

we're Spirit beings. if you keep listening to wordly songs, there is no way it can enrich your Spirit man. Gal 5:16- walk in the Spirit and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

if u need a Gospel danceable song try Frank Edwards, especially his songs Okaka, blow me away, Eze Eligwe, I made it and Big Things Agwan. He has many good dance songs
Re: Are All Wordly Songs WrongTo Listen To? by jemype(m): 8:11am On Feb 15, 2015
Bro lets put it this way. A song is worldly pending of where it leads u to. What i mean is this- when u hear a song it leads u either unconciously or subconciously to the source of inspiration that is where the idea to sing it was concieved from or what u think your own understandiing or interpretation of an experience that relates wit it is. That is why when u hear jaiye jaiye u think of dat lavish lifestyle Dat makes u feel lyk spending all the money or being d light of d party. And in relation to d real world the truth is a songs lyrics leads u astray or to the fore. So i think u have to let ur heart decide which ones help u bcuz no matter how u listen to some songs u cant gain anything from dem.dat is why if u listen to gospel songs for a while back to back u find that ur access to God is easier than when u listen to some other songs so i feel its about letting ur heart decide because u discover that there are some gospel songs that even derail u from accessing the heavens.

What is eze eligwe, what is okaka. Aren't we supposed to listen to something we can connect too. There are many christian songs but none to me really has the beats that would make me dance till I drop. I have a lot of Frank Edward songs too at least the one I can understand.

To me any song that is not of God, that doesn't praise and give God the glory he deserves can be termed a worldly song. Well, the only reason I listen to such songs is because I love the beats i.e. the instrumentals, I seldom listen those lyrics that contains nothing other than women, sex, cars and money.

Thankyou. That's exactly my thoughts. I haven't seen any gospel song that encourages me to dance very well. And it seems like gospel songs are meant to be in a certain way and when it becomes to worldly it is termed demonic. People in this part of the world are myopic. There are even rock christian songs etc. This is because they know people are not the same, people are different. How do u listen to one genre of song and not get tired. Some say rap christian songs are not good. All this things are people imposing their beliefs. If u do not know how people connect to their maker then don't judge. I am fully in control of my mind and thoughts. Even when I don't listen to worldly songs I get tempted. Imaginations come in even wiv out seeing anything to warrant it. How much less a worldly song.
Re: Are All Wordly Songs WrongTo Listen To? by adeniyitheprof(m): 8:39am On Feb 15, 2015
Personally, I will define "Worldly Songs" as songs:
*that do not glorify God,
* that do instill the thoughts of sexual immorality into the minds of some people,
*that have certain and unique slangs whose meanings are unknown to many but if thoroughly researched, may have evil meaning in other tribes or countries where the slangs are frequently used,
*whose videos are filled with almost naked ladies and guys.
*that gives praise only to the singer,
*that do not make one to think of the cross, Heaven, and repentance
*that do not preach HOLINESS, RIGHTEOUSNESS and TRUTH but promotes directly or indirectly violence, corruption and other sins,
*that is totally or partly against what Jesus Christ preaches.

NOTE: some of the so-called christian songs are worldly by their lyrics, videos, and others.

Though we are in the world, we should not be of world.

SET YOUR AFFECTIONS ON THINGS ABOVE AND NOT ON THINGS ON THIS EARTH.
GOD BLESS YOU!!!

Self control is a virtue. Good insticts tells you what to do long before your head figures it out. I understand your perspective and I appreciate your comment.

Nevertheless, he that falls into sin is a man, he that grieves of sin is a saint but he that boast of sin is a devil.

Proverbs 2:10-11...When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee.

Take care and Happy Sunday.

Well, that's why you need to renew your mind with the word of God always! Today, there is no song that other than that which I av had the lyrics, think upon it can make me tap me feet, they don't just appeal to me! So wen ur mind is sufficiently renewed u will comprehend ds better! 'You re not of this world, you are of God'
