The way we shoot down good ideas sha. . Just read the posts above and you would think that the House of Reps are just blind but the opposite is the case. That thing is nothing but a flying coffin. This is a very very good idea. Hiace buses and their equivalents should be used to carry goods ONLY! THERE IS NO OTHER SERIOUS COUNTRY IN THE WORLD WHRE SMALL HIACE BUSES ARE USED FOR LONG DISTANCE JOURNEYS. It is only here. That bus is mainly used to carry goods. Not to pack humans like sardines from Lagos to Aba. That bus has been responsible for thousands of deaths on Nigerian roads. I lost one of my friends who flew into this country and tried going to the east from Lagos with that brand called "Hummer". They perished somewhre near Ore. It should be banned totally. It is small. It is speedy. And the small interior forces passengers into very uncomfortable positions leaving them with no room to negotiate an escape once there is an impact.. For inter city travels, we should either be using the 'luxurious' buses, or the one we call "civilians" or something like ANAMCOs "14-14". . They are a bit bigger, less speedy, more comfortable and more amenable to Nigerian roads.

I thought the senator will elaborate the design defects that always cause accidents by Haiace. So i Don't think her arguments r genue constructive.the issue is to. Find the causes of such accidents and eliminate them,make good roads,enlightened road users etc.

The said law makers forgot so easily like my mentor living in London do say if he visit Nigeria "you don't speed with Belgium and obsolete autos" whenever he sees old vehicle speeding ; that 80% percent of those hiace buses are pretty much old, a law is needed to pull them off our road Instead of banning them

you don't know the vehicle you're talking about. How can you say hiace busses are old ? Regular travellers and inter city transporters will tell you that Toyota hiace (hummer bus) has a dubious safety record and besides no transporter worth his salt buys those buses as tokunbo

They should make a law that will promote good roads and discourage bad and killer roads instead.

If we are to ban vehicles on Nigerian roads, i would advise you to come to Northern Nigeria firstly for those who have not had the previlege.
You would see J5, Peugeot 404 and other 1960 vehicles model still being in use for transportation of Human being, this results in lost of lifes on daily basis.
I think our transportation sector also needs reform, although in doing this, most people would loose their jobs and their means of livelihood.

They should also ban trucks. Foolish pple who can't think properly.
They shud repair all the roads in naija and set speed limit.

I can just fathom this. Is it the road or the Hiace buses ? The mother of first lady that died on the road , was she also in Hiace bus ?
u pple are just going in wrong direction complete the road on time so that it can b motorable. Yeye pple want to ban Hiace buses , shey na only Nigeria dem dey use the buses ? Does similar thing occur in other places (countries) where the buses are being used ?

what kind of scientific test have they done on the bus.The company can even sue them. They think oh they can just open mouth and anything that comes out of it is law.Without backing it with test and scientific evidence. Million of vehicle is recalled every year due to one defect or the other. Have the recalled any that is shipped to Nigeria even when the same model has defect in other serious countries. I just dey shake my head

You are missing the point, it was a multiple accident but only the hiace burst into flames, on most other occasions d same thing happens, increasing the mortality rate, hence the reason for the call

Will that stop accidents on the road? I think they should think of fixing the road to look more better and create speed limits which will make commuters not to over speed.
