In a recent release of Webometrics ranking of World Universities, Covenant University has emerged overall best in both the webometrics and repositories rankings of universities in Nigeria and West Africa.

The university is also ranked 15th and 13th in both webometrics and repositories in Africa respectively.

According to the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Charles Ayo, the ranking is one of the best any university in Nigeria had ever achieved.

He said, “This is a validation of the leadership position of Covenant University, not only amongst the league of private universities in Nigeria, but also amongst all public universities in the country and West Africa.

“This result is a validation of the university’s quest towards the vision 10:2022, which is to get the university listed amongst the top ten universities in the world by 2022. This accomplishment is awesome and we return all the glory to God.”

The Ranking Web or Webometrics is the largest academic ranking of Higher Education Institutions of about 25,000 institutions in the world based on web presence and impact. Factors considered are impact, presence, openness and excellence.

Be deceiving urself. It is not Academic but Website-volume based. OAU is the best and standing out.

The school is trying like seriozly..They have modern teaching facilities and extra course programs..Gbayi convenant.

Webometrics does not evaluate the strength of Academic performances or scientific research and it is not a measure of strong academic records. It is simply a system based on University web presence and access. (For Instance during the Unilag name change saga, it's web traffic increased and by the use of webometrics it jumped to top 10 in Africa in 2012) When you go to the same ranking (where Covenant is ranked 15th) and click "sort by excellence" ( excellence in terms of web publication and scientific publications) Covenant University does not appear in the top 100 (In Africa). More still needs to be done in the quality of our tertiary education. The top ranking system of Universities worldwide are: QS World Rankings, Times Higher Education and ARWU and i'm very hopeful in the foreseeable future Nigerian Universities will be represented in the league of top class universities, right now, there are none.

Whether Webometrics or Academic ranking, the school is achieving things that even public universities can't boast of. They are really trying let's be sincere...

When you judge a University by web presence, it represents how the University is able to publicise what it does in the school on the web so that other universities can take note. For example, when you access covenant University website, you would notice that all the research papers, all the academic activities, seminars and conferences, all the infrastructure, a detailed curriculum vitae of all the staff, a detailed program course list for all the departments, all the inventions and innovations, all the pedagogical techniques, all the student accomplishments, all the university partnerships are publicized on the web. Apart from the aforementioned, can you tell me any other criteria that should be used to judge Universities? Give it up bro, I wonder why its hard Nigerians to accept that anything good can come out of this country.
