d pond is oily Cos' of d oil in which it's used in mixing d feeds in feeding d fish don't be bothered about d oil in d pond is good for them hmmmmm very good for them.

Pls am an aspiring catfish farmer ready to beginning next month, starting with about 250 juvenile and two plastic tanks , d other for sorting, pls do I also need to wash d tank with any mixtures or chemical again for pest control, and also any one in Benin dat I can intern for sometime and Could teach me hatchery also would be appreciative... And also am confused on what feed to give dem in d first 3mnths before switching to vital feeds, coopen or ziegler? Tanks in advance.... BENIN CITY, EDO STATE

i forgot to take pics. d mounds of d cassava farms there are thrice d ones ive seen b4. we had to remove ourshoes to pass some areas as its muddy. my friends pond is 4feet deep and i see water in d pond(seeping in from d ground).

concerning feed, it is mgt that would determine if /even if using d best feed will give desired result. Almost or all feeds are good if not fake. If u dont overfeeding no challenge & u have water, all good. No need chemicals for pest control,all pest are food for your fishes, from d mosquito larvae, cockroaches, termites e.t.c, but initially u can disinfect with blagdon or formalin or water with hypo, sunlight, permanganate etc, but rinse well before introducing d fishes for some of this agents

thank God. Those your giant fishes breed, i blieve it can be successful cultured outside earthen pond, though fragile, but cant be as fragile as tilapia, when next am in gwariipa DV, let me come,so i can prove it sir by God's Grace

@mercylicious, sorry for late response. I hope someday i will meet someone who spawn pure hetero successfully. Same stocking density as clarias, just that wen they get bigger (4kg each), they require more space. Same feed as clarias. Male & Female can stay together for more than 2yrs. Thesame management as clarias, just slight difference. They are not as strong compared to clarias, they need more care especially while stocking or sorting.
Note: Earthen pond is best for them, cos its the closest replica to their natural habitat. Below is 300pcs of 5kg pure hetero spp. Tnx

Increase in price of fish feed is biting everyone. I am also feeling it here. Even the local feed ingredients have increase in prices too.
As farmers, we need to be more united in setting a minimum price of fish per kilo. Farmers should top selling fish for less than N500 per kilo. U aint doing urself any favour and u are spoiling d market for other fish farmers.

concerning feeding things.
That my friend dt owns a fish farm is now a feed distributor. u can consider dt to make d price cheaper. nairalanders that their farms are close can pull funds together and buy in bulk.
