Anything thta dis-connects you from God is sin, and besides smoking doesn't speak well of one with good morals. See my brother, don't take heed to comments saying because smoking is not mentioned in the bible, therefore its not sin...that is misleading. I remember reading online where a reknowned man of God was saying thesame thing about masturbation, that since its not mentioned anywhere in the bible, It was ok to masturbate...can you imagine that?

You see during the days of Prophet Moses, God's commandments (Laws) were written on a 'stone' and only the prophets at that time had access to read it, and they then in turn, explain it to the people and also remarkable is the fact that all the laws could not be written in the pages of any book....Hence the idea of Christ coming in Human Flesh to die for us So we could be liberated from the force of SIN.

THE ESSENCE OF THE SACRIFICE

Now, a soul without sin has to be sacrificed to purify and deliver the people who were living in sin and that was why Jesu Christ had shed his blood and die so that we could take back our place we lost to the devil.

Now, the law is no more written on any 'tablet' BUT in Our 'Hearts'. Your conscience is alaways your guide when you need some divine direction from God and it never fails as long as you have a good relationship with your God.

In my opinion, I think smoking is a sin but you don't need to be hard on yourself...all you need do is to enjoy God's presence everyday of your life and watch the urge for smoking as it fades away.

Seriously, if you walk into a new church and you see the pastor with a stick of cigarette while preaching and his bible in the other hand, would you go back? Yes, there is definitely, 'thou shall not smoke" in the bible. That's why we have the Holy Spirit which dwells inside of us to guard us in a straight path. His Spirit speaks to your conscience. If you feel the slightest discomfort smoking, then its time to stop. Why put one leg in and the other leg out. If you have chosen to serve God, serve him in spirit and in truth. Is smoking a sin? putting it into context. If someone lived their life the right way all their lives but was a smoker, would God say "Go to Hell because you smoked"? People fornicate, drink excessively, steal and do many bad things on a daily basis that are much worse than smoking. Yes smoking kills, yes it can cause Cancer. But as a Christian, does the Bible tell me not to smoke? The Bible doesn't even discourage drinking and even tells people that Jesus provided Alcohol which is more dangerous than smoking at a wedding. While I would never encourage anyone to take up smoking, I'm a smoker myself and I know how hard it is to quit, I at the same time would say that some people, particularly hypocritical African Christians have put smoking on a 'sinful pedestal' it should not be on. For people who say 'Smoking kills', yes it can kill but it hasn't stopped you from fornicating, traveling in cars, flying on Airplanes, swimming, crossing a busy road, fighting, all of which could lead to certain death. Smoking can be a bad habit, it can kill like many other things in society. But as a Christian, I believe that if Smoking is enough to be condemned to Hell, then no one will make Heaven. Using the same logic, not exercising which is harmful to our body and leads us to live a shorter life span (aka suicide) than God intended is also a sin.

Eating too much sweet, sugar, fat are all sinful because they are harmful to our health, damage and destroys vital body organs (aka bokoharams and suicide bombers) is also a sin.

I don't smoke, never smoked in my life... except when I was in Primary 5 and saw the beautiful commercial of Benson and Hedges on TV and been that my mom was selling them, I sneaked a stick, gave it two or three buffs and realized that, it was not making me feel as great as the commercial depicted, I threw it away in disappointment. So, in the the spirit of full disclosure, I have smoked about a total of one tenth of a stick of cigarette my whole life.

So those advocating that smoking cigarette is a sin simply because it contain harmful chemicals that eventually leads to death aka suicide and suicide is a sin....

Using that logic, are you advocating smoking marijuana aka igbo is okay? If you look it up, there are many scientific research backing up the medical potency of Igbo, infact doctors worldwide prescribe Igbo for some illness just like your doctor give you prescription.

Another logic, if the negative on cigarette is about the harmful chemicals, why do you guys take prescription drugs prescribed by the doctor? Harm you read the packaging and label that comes with those prescription drugs? Some gradually destroy your lungs, livers, kidneys, give you ulcer, dizziness, headache, low/high blood pressure, fever, etc.

If you are taking a position base on absolutes, you do not choose and pick; you define your premises and every thing that does not fall-in must be sin, there is no need rationalizing some, thereby excluding them.

I believe the Bible says something about taking care of one's body and when GOD say take care of your body,HE does not mean you should take care of it(body)negatively but to positively take care of your body.So,Why smoking when you knew it will only couse damages to your body especially,your lungs and your brain.Or don't you know your bodies are the temple(s) of GOD?And if your body(s) are the temple of GOD then why smoking?!
