This is the OP fabrication just to cause rancor , insults and hatred. The story did not happen. The most Islamic countries have English writings on their currency notes.

I witnessed something strange in my school last week.

I was at an eatery when an argument ensued between the attendant and a "Muslim student", funny enough the attendant is also a muslim.
The guy was given the new N100 note as his balance but he refused to collect it and was rather requesting for the old one, the woman was surprised and asked him why he wouldn't collect it and his reply was "there is no arabic on it"

This got me thinking that i had to ask some of my muslim friends of which they condemned the act.

To the muslims here, what's your take on this?

I had same experience a few weeks back. A little Muslim boy of less than 15 years told me to give him the old 100 Naira note if I have that the new one is not good. I also met an Imam who openly condemned the legal tender. So it's a general notion among Muslims that any Nigerian currency note without Arabic writing is 'illegal'/ 'fake'.

I must have said this on this forum sometimes back.

I have Muslims in my office here in Lekki who reacted to the new 100 naira note claiming it had a Jewish symbol.

I've also engaged some secondary school children here in Ajah who showed so much dislike on the new note on religious ground also.

I had to wonder if they had such teaching in the mosque coz they shared the same sentiments.

They may still use it but the religious aspects and dislike for it still exist.

We have been using Naira notes with Arabic inscriptions on them, for so long and we did not bother about it or say the money is bad or ugly. We should not pretend about this, we know where this intolerance is coming from.


Unfortunately, you may not agree with me, but it's the truth. This is part of what is shaping the politics of 2015.
