Am an MTN SME Data Share Reseller and User, that's a fact, but it got me thinking, other networks have lower tariffs but lots of people still prefer MTN. I did some research and here is my findings.

According to the research, here are the top 20
Fastest Internet Service Providers and their average
speeds:

1. PROVIDER LIR 13.98 Mbps
2. Netcom Africa Limited 12.19 Mbps
3. Galaxy Backbone Plc 11.91 Mbps
4. Smile Communications Ltd 7.51 Mbps
5. MTN Nigeria 6.93 Mbps
6. SWIFT NETWORKS LIMITED 6.65 Mbps
7. MainOne Cable Company 5.89 Mbps
8. IPNXng 5.21 Mbps
9. VDT Communications Limited 4.80 Mbps
10. Suburban Telecom 4.73 Mbps
11. Internet Solutions Nigeria Limited 4.45 Mbps
12. SPECTRANET LIMITED 3.92 Mbps
13. NGCOM 3.61 Mbps
14. Wireless Broadband Internet service 2.64 Mbps
15. Spectranet Ltd 2.63 Mbps
16. Coollink 2.41 Mbps
17. Swifttalk Limited (NG) 2.34 Mbps
18. Mobitel Nigeria Limited 2.03 Mbps
19. EMTS Limited / Etisalat Nigeria 2.01 Mbps
20. Globacom Limited 1.86 Mbps
Another interesting take away from the report is the
ranking of the three major cities according to internet
download speeds. Lagos boasts the fastest internet in
Nigeria with an average of 4.08Mbps, Abuja comes in
second with an average of 3.34Mbps and Port Harcourt is
3rd with an average of 1.03Mbps.

Mbps means Megabits per second

You can see that MTN is number five with 6.93Mbps with ETISALAT coming in at Number 19 with 2.01Mbps while GLOBACOM stays at Number 20 with 1.86Mbps, which means Airtel has no place on the top Twenty.

it is suffice to say that when it comes to speed MTN is the answer, but if you are looking less speed where you have to reload Nairaland page 5-6 times before it comes up, any of Network is the answer.

I choose speed, where I can download a full teen wolf season 3 worth 1.68GB under 1 hour.

this is my opinion but you are free to add yours.

@op I don't know where you got your research data from...but I can literally tell you that etisalat is a beast compared to mtn where I am...etisalat:6.7mbps and 4.6mbps for mtn when downloading

@Op, you're wrong. Have you tried Smile? Their tariff isn't low. I use Smile. Smile is very fast with good download speed. It hardly has downtime. So I careless about the tariff since I get to do anything I want anytime.
