Nigerian troops reportedly killed scores of Boko Haram insurgents on Monday evening in Gombi town, Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State. According to Daily Trust report, the soldiers ambushed the insurgents, who were trying to enter the town of Gombi. This was disclosed on Tuesday, March 10, in statement by the acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kakasheka Usman. Report surfaced yesterday that the terrorist sect had launched a deadly attack on Gombi. The statement read: “The terrorists were engaged by troops of 23 Brigade Nigerian Army in a gun battle that led to killing of quite a number of them, destruction and recovery of vehicles, motorcycles, various calibre of weapons and ammunitions. READ ALSO: Chad and Niger Military Free Two Towns From Boko Haram “These include 4 Hilux vehicles, 3 Anti-Aircraft guns and one .50 inch Browning Machine Gun. Others include 5,000 rounds of 12.7 milimetre ammunitions, 2 boxes of .50 inch ammunitions, 1,000 rounds of Light Machine Gun ammunitions and one Rocket Propelled Grenade 7 tube, as well as one General Purpose Machine Gun.” Col. Usman added that one soldier was wounded in the encounter and he is responding to treatment. He also said soldiers were mopping up the area to prevent further incursions by the terrorists. Boko has been waging war in Nigeria for nearly six years, attacking villages and killing innocent people. 200 vehicles with soldiers from Chad and Niger recently crossed the border into Nigeriato fight the Boko Haram sect in the northeastern region.http://www.naij.com/399501-troops-kill-scores-of-boko-haram-insurgents-in-adamawa.html |
