Ihedioha ‘ll Liberate Imo – Patience Jonathan

Stanley Uzoaro
— Mar 10, 2015 | 0 Comments

The wife of President Goodluck Jonathan, Dame Patience, has urged the Imo State electorate to vote massively for the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party( PDP) in the state, Chief Emeka Ihedioha, to free the people from what she described as misrule by the present administration in the state.

Speaking during the PDP Women Presidential Campaign rally in Owerri, the state capital, the First Lady described Ihedioha as the only candidate among others that could bring the dividend of democracy to the people.

Mrs. Jonathan stated that ‘‘Everything about the All Progressives Congress (APC) is shrouded in lies, deceit and insincerity”, urging the women to vote particularly for all the PDP candidates in the state.

She also appealed to the women to vote for President Jonathan, the PDP presidential candidate in the March 28 presidential election.

Speaking earlier, Ihedioha who is also the deputy speaker, House of Representatives, assured the First Lady that Imo State will repeat the 99.6 per cent feat recorded in the 2011 presidential election by voting for Jonathan.

He urged the registered voters in the state to obtain their permanent voter cards (PVCs) to enable them discharge their civic responsibility.

THE RESOLVE TO SERVE OKIGWE PEOPLE – Nze Clement Owunna Speaks
Editor | February 7, 2015 | 0 Comments

Mazi Clement Owunna

For many obvious and inexplicable reasons, Okigwe Zone cannot seem to get its acts together in terms of leadership across – board since the dawn of this new democratic era in 1999. A basic symptom of this misfortune is the seminal absence of selfless, forthright and development oriented leaders who possess the vision and strong acumen to mainstream the development of Okigwe zone.

However, I have come to the conclusion that if well meaning Okigwe sons and daughters are keen to reverse this persisting leadership misfortune, then the zone has to make a very strong resolve to begin to field its FIRST ELEVEN IN LEADERSHIP vis-à-vis political representation. It is also high time the well meaning Okigwe elites began to know that proactive political participation remains the major platform for changing the fortunes of society nays Okigwe zone.

Thus given our state of under development in Okigwe zone, I therefore believe that the hitherto prevailing indifference of most of our well meaning and genuine Okigwe elites, is a crime against humanity because politics and governance are too serious and too important to be left to touts who are only in politics to accumulate inordinate wealth for their immediate families while deceiving our people and subjecting them to perpetual slavery and under development.

Hence if those who have what it takes to give Okigwe visionary leadership refuse to offer themselves to serve their people on the wrong assumption that they are too big or too clean to be rubbished by the shenanigans in politics, then both them and their unborn generations should be ready to suffer the bitter consequences of the misrule of mediocre.

For quite sometimes now I have battled with the conflict between continuing with what I can describe as a ”personally fulfilled and comfortable life in terms of material possessions” and personal sacrifices to serve God Almighty by working towards making my immediate society(Okigwe)better than I met it. I have considered the numerous calls for me to assist in salvaging Okigwe Zone.

I have weighed the personal risks- risks of being damaged, mudslinging and rubbished by the uncouth characters who have taken over the political landscape, risks to personal safety, risks to my hard earned pedigree given the fact that the political desperados all around are sure to try their machinations on me.

Going forward, I have finally reconciled, these perceived risks cum innate conflicts and sacrifice to serve Okigwe people. A service that can usher the dawn of a new beginning for a people and change their fortunes as well as give hope to present and future generation of Okigwe sons and daughters.

Some pessimists have had cause to dare to tell me that; being a senator of the Federal Republic will not add to my reputation but rather it has the tendency to dwindle it. Thus I make bold to say that I consider it a divine call to serve my people by deploying my entire God given talents to midwife the DAWN OF A NEW BEGINNING in Okigwe leadership and governance.

Four doable things Emeka Ihedioha can promise in Orlu and he gets massive number of votes from here:

1, A government university or duplication of faculties of present IMSU located in Owerri for Orlu zone - already, there are infrastructures in the zone waiting to accommodate the faculties, and there are large numbers of Imo state university applicants ready to jump into them.

2, Completing the Orlu urban Drainage system started by former governor Ikwechegh and Asphalting of as many of Orlu urban roads as he can - there are too many of these roads nearly fully built with houses but remain with dust and mud.

3, Rebuilding of Sam Okwaraji Stadium - or replacing it with a new one.

4, Portable water - if the state govt is providing that for Imo state.

Tufiakwa; the collective dream of Imolites must not be lavishing most of Imo state money building a mega state capital at the expense of having real development infrastructure outside the state capital.

ROYALD, ma dear, you have been filling this thread with pix of gigantic and resplendent development projects done by Gov Owelle Rochas Okorocha in your city, Owerri;

but you quote Owelle Rochas Okorocha: “at the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies.”
Note: the words I spoke in the last comment are doable; Orlu shall only vote any guber candidate that promises to do much of those words.

No talk of enmity in Imo state; criticism is not enmity - what we want is even development of Imo state. How could a governor's perceived enemies now turn out to be those that staked everything for his success in the polls in 2011?

Cost:
It must be cheaper and most convenient to provide university education from a government university closer to the large number of people in the 12 LGAs of Orlu district, than having them pay expensive house rents in the already crowded state capital.

Fairness:
Having Owerri areas alone to profit from closeness to the five public tertiary institutions in Imo state, all located around Owerri, creates and perpetuates ignorance in one part of the state - but awareness in the other.

Economy:
The more than 100,000 students and tertiary institutions' staff in the state capital create the necessity for every state govt to be stretched to spend most of the state's resources every year to expand social infrastructures in the state capital - at the expense of providing basic infrastructures for development in other areas of Imo state.

Development - Town and Gown:
Every month, money from these students in the state capital, as well as money from governments' subventions to the institutions, turn in huge suns of money which create development boom only in the state capital. –---- Private tertiary institution does not bring any spectacular development to where it is located.

Education key to other forms of development: Presence of public tertiary institution in an area rouses interest in young people from the area to get higher education which enhances other forms of development.

Or why then do some sets of Imolites resent anybody or state governor that talks about relocating IMSU from Owerri?
Last year, E. Iwuanyanwu even asked the federal government for more university facilities specifically for Owerri.

That guy is not from Imo State. He is one of those looking for a fault to discredit our rapid development. All that Imo lacks today is federal presence of which if APC wins at federal level, we will get our fair share of that.

The effort should be on building straight smooth roads in Owerri and surrounding towns. In my little understanding of the city of Owerri, there are very few roads taxis and buses can profit from, hence the resort to keke.

I will like to see an Owerri with Okigwe road from Library area run smooth and straight without the trouble of incessant traffic stops at IMSU junction, at least 2 heavy flyovers before Orji town then wide road till out of the city limits.

I will like to see a straight running wide road from Fire service to all of Mbaise towns to Umuahia road, Ditto for Orlu area.

With this arrangement, keke cannot complete as city shuttle buses will take over and taxis reappear.

I love Owerri and always feel at home here.

Actually there are more than 20 dual carriage ways in Owerri. Port Harcourt road, Onitsha road, Wetheral road, Bank road, Okigwe road, Aba road, Akachi road are all at least 6 lane wide highways but Keke still plies on them. Keke can ply the dual carriage ways in New Owerri as they are not busy and are mostly residential but those major roads I mentioned should not have Keke. Dee Sam road and Orlu road are not wide but are also major dual carriage roads that Keke should not ply as it affects their beauty.

This video is the roundabout at the intersection of Wetheral, Okigwe and Bank road.

Anyone know why the Imo Palm plantation that is now being managed by foreigners hasn't improved the states IGR exponentially!? Was watching a program on tv the other day, and someone pointed out just how valuable palm-oyel is......he said you find it in so many products (edible and cosmetics)! I then remembered the huge plam plantation in Imo state and i got angry that yet again we have a situation where there's too much fuc'king talk-talk-talk, yet nothing comes out of it!

The palm plantation was either sold or handed over to these foreigners about 4 years ago; coupled with the state gov'ts ikwuola nku initiative which so much noise was made about at the time, but we're yet to see the benefits of all this in hard cash! Imo and Rivers states should be getting nothing less that 3 billion naira respectively per month from their palm plantations sad

Despite the warped federal structure this country operates, some states can still make a killing in certain areas! Plam oil should bring in as much revenue to the farmers/state concerned as cocoa does.....if not more!

Imo, FG fight over ownership of school classrooms project 0

The faceoff between the Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha and the Minister of Education (State), Prof Viola Onwuliri, is not abating.
The duo had been engulfed in verbal war with the latest being the claims and counter claims over the ownership of a twin storey block of classrooms erected in the 305 wards across the 27 local government areas of the state.

While Okorocha has constantly told the Imo people that the block of classrooms were being built with the N3 billion proceeds of the concessioning of the Adapalm to Roche as part of his free education policy, Mrs Onwuliri claimed that the 305 twin storey classroom blocks were indeed projects sponsored by the Federal Government.

But Oriental News reliably gathered that the project was actually initiated in 2010 by President Goodluck Jonathan as part of his transformation agenda to upgrade primary schools across the federation.

It was equally learnt that the project with the estimated cost of N40 million for each of the storey blocks of classrooms across the state actually commenced in 2011 during the tenure of Governor Okorocha.

However, the Imo governor who has been receiving commendations from natives of the state for erecting the buildings has claimed he had solely erected the twin buildings as part of his free education policy, insisting that the project was funded from the proceeds realized from concession of the Adapalm to Roche, an Irish company, who he said had paid the Imo State government the sum of N3.5 billion.

But the Minister of Education stated that claims by the governor that the schools were built from the proceeds realized from the leasing of Adapalm was fraudulent, describing the attitude of Okorocha as deliberate mischief and a calculated attempt to mislead the Imo people into believing that the administration of President Jonathan has abandoned the state by not citing projects in it.

Prof Onwuliri revealed that she had discovered during her tour of the state shortly, after her assumption of office late last year, that the twin storey classroom blocks the governor was claiming he built was in actual fact sponsored by the Federal Government, pointing out that the Imo State government deliberately refused to put the inscription of Universal Basic Education Commission on them as done in other states which would have enabled the people to know that the project was indeed sponsored by the Federal Government.

Her words: “On assumption of office I had toured the state and I discovered to my utmost surprise that the twin storey classroom buildings sponsored in the state by the Federal Government through the Ministry of Education has no inscription of the Universal Basic Education Commission on them because the state government deliberately refused to inform the Imo people that indeed the project were sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Education through UBEC which is under my direct supervision.

“I quickly alerted the necessary quarters and queried why there was no sign to indicate that the project was sponsored financially by the Federal Government. It was shortly after the inspection of the Federal projects in the state that the state government began to label the building SUBEB/UBEC. Even at that, the inscription was not visible for people to see, yet the governor was busy telling Imo people that the President Jonathan-led PDP administration has done nothing in the state.”

She pointed out that the Universal Basic Education programmes was introduced by the Federal Government to reform specifically the basic education sector and the Nigerian education sector in general.

“State Universal Primary Education Board (SUBEB) is an offshoot of UBEC in the states, which is established to address the inequality in educational opportunity at the basic level,” she pointed out, stressing that the programme was introduced by the Federal Government to remove distortions and inconsistencies in basic education delivery and reinforce the implementation of the national policy on education as well as to ensure access, equity and quality of basic education throughout the country.

She accused the Imo State government of having the penchance of covering Federal Government projects in the state from the public knowledge.

For instance, she pointed out that the Federal Government also built similar projects such as new ICT centre and Faculty of Law building at the state-owned university which she commissioned in December last year, built administration block, Engineering Department and Laboratory at Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo.

“This is aside the MDG, River Basin, NDDC, FERMA, Sure-P, You WIN, National Directorate of Employment projects executed by the Federal Government in Imo State, including roads and construction of multi-billion naira grain silo in Okigwe. Yet Governor Okorocha is busy telling the Imo people lies that President Jonathan has done nothing in the state just to deceive them to vote for him and his party, APC,” she lamented.

According to the minister, the Federal Government gave the state government free hand to hire its contractors for the twin storey classroom blocks project.

“But you cannot believe it that only one contractor was hired by the state government to execute the multi-million naira project in all the 305 wards of the state against the Federal Government initial plan to spread the contract and allow the communities to handle the projects, but only one contractor executed the projects for Governor Okorocha,” she disclosed.

However, the claims of Prof. Onwuliri were dismissed by the Imo State government as a bogus lie meant to deceive the people of the state that the projects were sponsored by the Federal Government.

According to the Imo State Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere, the claim of the minister was a “bogus lie.”

The deputy governor insisted that claims to the 305 schools in 305 wards in Imo State would remain the greatest lie ever told in history in desperate want of political power.

Mrs Uduka stressed that ISUBEB has action plans for all projects which must be approved by UBEC before being implemented.

“UBEC officials came here and saw the twin storey buildings and appreciated Governor Okorocha’s initiative to step up the hope of the children of the poor and the downtrodden because UBEC and ISUBEB as partners in progress in the education of the children,” she said

Imo state is in trouble, the entire state is in shambles. where are the funds if these projects were executed by the federal government. Ihedioha please come to our rescue.

you want the government to use it's money to start buying people taxis and tomorrow when they can't build roads people like you will call it corruption. There's no where in the civilized world where the government subsidizes ordinary taxis. Especially in places with a drought of ambulances, fire trucks, and other essential vehicles.

I don't think there's anything wrong with keke. It gives Owerri character and provides a cheap safe and efficient alternative route to transportation. They put less carbon in the air than cars which makes the air clean (we could be like Lagos where after 4 hours outside your clothes will be 1 shade blacker). It also encourages people to walk a little more which keeps the city health and vibrant. I'm all for Keke.

this is what i can't stand about Okorocha. Real governors (Akpabio, Obiano, Sullivan) are bringing industry and investors in. Many are growing the industries already in the state and incorporating them into making the government work. In Imo it's just Okorocha, stomach infrustructure and talk. We have been hearing about how he 'brought back' imo plant for an entire tenure and none of the businesses that need palm to function have yes to invest in Imo.

That guy is not from Imo State. He is one of those looking for a fault to discredit our rapid development. All that Imo lacks today is federal presence of which if APC wins at federal level, we will get our fair share of that.

Lol!! Whoever taught you lessons on Propaganda must have had no O'level qualification.

I am from Orlu in Imo state. I am not from Okigwe or Owerri where your rapid development is taking place.

It's more than one-and-half years many informed Orlu people have been yearning for Gov.Okorocha to repair damages and do other important needful in Orlu areas - but no show. This na election time.... you hear?

But come o, just about two weeks ago, you were campaigning for President Jonathan on NL, how come you have shifted again to Buhari this time?

Look, aasawoooo no be work o, na management o.

To me keke should be banned from our major roads and replaced with cabs. The ugliest sight I behold driving in Owerri is the cluster of keke on highways. They should not be banned but restricted to inner city areas while some of them are empowered with subsidised taxi scheme.
it s because yu drove on yur own personal car around otown,
you want keke napep to be banned frm inner city and town? Though you suggested taxi should be replaced in lieu..
I may agree to disgree with yu cos this men who engaged in such occupation may not have the huge amount of money to buy such expensive car to be painted as cab..
there was a time,i and my business colleague travelled to enugu for inquisitions, frm there we wanted to go to calabar for enquires,on our way to calabar, the indian man with us asked the taxi driver frm enugu state,
that is car is so neat or expensive to be on taxi line..
then he asked him how much did he buy the expensive car?
the amount the guy estimated,i dont think some of owerri keke driver wil be able to aford it..
though i will recommends taxi,if the govt will be able to provides it at subsidized rate 4 them and they wil also charge the same lower prices,
so that some pauper in imo state wil be able to cab on it..
owerri or imo state as a whole is to expensive to allowed a transportation system more expensive
for the masses...
As an atruism, that aint good for my pple..
